About Progressive Perio & Associates

Trade Street sits in the low-rise office district on Aurora's far eastern edge, close enough to Route 59 and the Naperville line that many patients mentally file the trip as a Naperville errand rather than an Aurora one. Suite 104 has surface parking and no congestion to negotiate on the way in, which suits an office where appointments are surgical and you may not be the one driving home. Hours favor early risers: Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 7:30 to 4:30, Tuesday from 9 to 5:30, and nothing on Friday. If you would rather have a procedure done and still make most of a working day, the first slot of the morning is the one to ask for.

Dr. Crystal Chun is a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology and serves as an attending in the general practice residency program at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where she teaches residents. The practice handles conservative and surgical management of gum disease, cosmetic periodontal surgery, and implants replacing single or multiple missing teeth. Gum grafting for receding tissue is a good example of what a specialty office adds. A small amount of connective tissue is taken from the palate, or from a donor source if you would rather avoid a second surgical site, then tucked beneath the gum at the recession and covered so it can take on a new blood supply. Over several weeks it integrates, the exposed root is shielded, and cold sensitivity usually drops sharply. Coverage is frequently good but not always complete; the graft halts recession rather than undoing every millimeter of it.

Crown lengthening is the other procedure general dentists commonly send patients here for. When decay or a fracture runs below the gumline there is not enough sound tooth for a crown to grip, so a measured amount of bone and gum tissue is reshaped to expose more of the tooth and give the restoration a stable margin. The same technique is used cosmetically when the gums cover too much of the front teeth. Either way, healing runs for several weeks before the crown itself is made, and your own dentist normally completes that half of the plan.

Frequently Asked Questions

What happens during a gum graft for receding gums?
A small amount of connective tissue is taken from the roof of your mouth, or from a donor source if you prefer to avoid a second surgical site, then tucked under the gum at the recession and covered so it takes on a new blood supply. Over a few weeks it integrates, the exposed root is protected, and cold sensitivity usually drops. Coverage is often good but not always complete, and the graft halts recession rather than reversing it.
Why would my dentist send me here for crown lengthening?
Because there is not enough sound tooth above the gumline for a crown to grip. When decay or a fracture runs below the gum, a periodontist reshapes a measured amount of bone and gum tissue to expose more of the tooth, so the restoration has a stable margin to seal against. The same procedure is used cosmetically when gums cover too much of the front teeth. Healing takes several weeks before the crown is made.
Is Progressive Perio a specialty practice or a general dental office?
It is a periodontal specialty practice. Dr. Crystal Chun is a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology and an attending in the general practice residency program at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center. Practically, that means the office handles gum disease, gum grafting, crown lengthening and implant placement, while you keep your own general dentist for cleanings, fillings and the crown that eventually sits on top of an implant.

I had a great experience here for crown lengthening. Annie, the first person you meet when you walk in, is incredibly kind and welcoming, which makes a big difference before a procedure. Gosia, the surgical assistant, was both caring and knowledgeable, taking the time to explain every detail. Dr. Chun was exceptional. Not only is she highly skilled, but she also has a down-to-earth approach and explains everything in a way that's easy to understand. Based on a bit of research I had done ahead of time, I expected some pain and discomfort , but I experienced none. While everyone's healing process is different, I believe the precision and expertise of the surgeon played a significant role in my smooth recovery. I hope I won't need another procedure anytime soon, but if I do, I wouldn't hesitate to return. Highly recommend this office and Dr. Chun!

I recently had a consultation with Dr. Chun to address gum recession. She and her entire staff are both professional and courteous. Dr. Chun is a beautiful human being inside and out! Outstanding chairside manner and lovely to speak with. I might start using a wire brush just to spend more time with the entire staff! Don't hesitate. Trust the five-star rating, people!!

I am so thankful I went to Dr. Pick and his team to take care of my Gum Graft surgery. I was scared with past experiences trying to get my gum fixed and I went there in an emergency visit because I was bleeding at the top of my mouth from where I originally got the surgery. It was a series of unfortunate events, but I am so thankful that DR. Pick knew how to fix it. My boss and over 5 people I know told me to go to him. He is out of my network but SO worth it because they ARE THE BEST! Thank you Dr. Pick and your team for providing excellent service. You go above and beyond and made me feel comfortable. Funny jokes are included and a great team, full of support. Thank you bunches! Go to Dr. Pick, you are in good hands.
