About Ramsey Street Family Dental Care

Ramsey Street Family Dental Care operates on Ramsey Street in Fayetteville, North Carolina. A family dental practice sees a range of ages under one roof, which for most households means fewer separate appointments across different offices. It typically covers routine checkups and restorative treatment for both children and adults, with referrals out for anything requiring specialist training.

Affordable care means the practice sets out to make treatment accessible on a self-pay basis or through a payment arrangement, rather than assuming every patient arrives with comprehensive insurance. It is worth asking directly what options exist before assuming a needed treatment is out of reach.

Dental anxiety is common, and most practices are used to working with nervous patients — through clear explanations of what is about to happen, a slower pace where needed, and sedation options for patients who want them. Avoiding the dentist out of anxiety tends to make eventual treatment more involved, not less.

Children benefit from starting dental visits early, generally by their first birthday or within six months of the first tooth coming through, mainly so they become familiar with the setting before any treatment is actually needed. Establishing that routine early tends to make ongoing checkups far less stressful for both child and parent.

Payment and insurance arrangements vary by practice and by treatment, so it is worth asking directly what is covered and what options exist for anything that is not, rather than assuming either way. Getting that clarified before treatment starts avoids surprises once it is underway.

Beyond any single treatment, most dental visits start with an examination — checking for decay, reviewing the gums, and looking at existing fillings or crowns — often alongside X-rays where there is a reason to look between or beneath teeth. That groundwork is what a dentist uses to explain any findings and set out next steps before you leave. I had another outstanding experience at Ramsey Street Family Dental last week. From Jen at the front desk to Liz assisting during my visit, the entire staff was welcoming, professional, and genuinely caring. Dr. Sam is simply the best! He is knowledgeable, personable, and someone you can completely trust with your dental care. I gladly drive an hour just to be treated by this team, because exceptional care like this is hard to find. Highly recommend!

I scheduled an initial appointment for a cleaning. The appointment lasted about 5 minutes. They took x-rays and pictures, and then said to reschedule to discuss the plan forward. A week later, I was told I needed 26k worth of work. I told them I could not afford that, and if I could get a cleaning and fix a couple of teeth at a time. They said we don't t do that. Its basically all or none. Wasted two appointments and didn't even get my teeth cleaned. Edit.. Got a bill in the mail today. I was charged $213 for a full mouth debridement, which never happened.

Dr. Cowherd and his staff are amazing! I will not go anywhere else. If you know what Trigeminal Neuralgia is, you’ll know it’s absolutely necessary to be numbed when you doing anything with that side of your face! Dr. Cowherd will numb me for routine cleanings. Amazing! Jen, my hygienist is the best I’ve ever had!! If you’re searching for a fabulous Dentist, this is the place!

I had the most pleasant experience at this office. Never have I been to a dental office and was out in less than 45 minutes on a first visit. This is not the normal. The staff and atmosphere was amazing. I highly recommend this facility for ALL your dental needs!

Dr cowherd is a gentle giant every procedure I’ve had with him which has been quite a few has been wonderful. I know for the longest time he’s ran that whole place by himself as the only Dentist he’s done a really great job. He also took care of my mother and father my mother was not the most patient person and one day she was walking around the office huffing and puffing, and he stopped what he was doing and took care of her without any dental assistance, which wasn’t his job. It was the dental assistance job however she was busy, but he stopped what he was doing just to make her happy and he didn’t have to do that at all. I was also a patient here with Dr. Griffin and there couldn’t have been a better person to take over. Dr. Cowheard works really hard and does a really great job. He doesn’t get enough credit. Reading through some of these reviews people don’t understand what other people go through or deal with he’s a dentist and he’s got to get into your mouth so what do you expect him to do …he gets in there that’s for sure but without any aggression. He does what he has to do you want your teeth fixed or no go see Dr Cowheard. I’ve been to several dentist in my life. This one is the best by far. Both of my parents loved him and so do I. My son drew a picture of a Cow in third grade and I’ve wanted so badly to give it to him, but I love it so much myself. Maybe I’ll make a copy of it for him. Actually, I’m a show you right here but it reminds me of Dr cowherd because he’s such a big (tall)man and this cow is such a big cow and they’re both awesome.

I had one of the most traumatic dental experiences of my life at this office. I want to acknowledge that the front desk staff were incredibly kind and welcoming, and the dental hygienist was excellent—truly one of the best I’ve encountered. Unfortunately, my experience with the dentist and assisting staff was profoundly distressing. Suction control during the procedure was extremely poor. Debris and fluids splattered onto my face and into my hair, and at one point I began coughing while on the table. Despite this, the dentist continued working and did not stop to check on me or assess whether I was okay. I left genuinely concerned that I may have aspirated material during the procedure. The numbing process was aggressive. A large needle was inserted abruptly and deeply without the use of topical anesthetic or a gradual approach. There was little to no communication or regard for my comfort, which made the experience feel mechanical and dehumanizing rather than patient-centered. The drilling felt rushed and forceful, with no check-ins despite obvious discomfort. As a healthcare provider, I found the lack of empathy, safety awareness, and trauma-informed care extremely concerning. While I appreciate being seen on short notice and the willingness to stay late, convenience does not outweigh patient safety or humane treatment. This was not just uncomfortable—it felt unsafe.
