About Rasmussen Periodontics and Implant Dentistry

Rasmussen Periodontics and Implant Dentistry provides dental care on Cypress Cove in Wesley Chapel, Florida. Gum disease treatment ranges from a deeper professional cleaning for early inflammation through to more involved periodontal care once bone around the teeth has started to be affected. Bleeding gums are usually the earliest sign, and the early stage is reversible with proper cleaning and better daily plaque control.

Dental anxiety is common, and most practices are used to working with nervous patients — through clear explanations of what is about to happen, a slower pace where needed, and sedation options for patients who want them. Avoiding the dentist out of anxiety tends to make eventual treatment more involved, not less.

Children benefit from starting dental visits early, generally by their first birthday or within six months of the first tooth coming through, mainly so they become familiar with the setting before any treatment is actually needed. Establishing that routine early tends to make ongoing checkups far less stressful for both child and parent.

Payment and insurance arrangements vary by practice and by treatment, so it is worth asking directly what is covered and what options exist for anything that is not, rather than assuming either way. Getting that clarified before treatment starts avoids surprises once it is underway.

Beyond any single treatment, most dental visits start with an examination — checking for decay, reviewing the gums, and looking at existing fillings or crowns — often alongside X-rays where there is a reason to look between or beneath teeth. That groundwork is what a dentist uses to explain any findings and set out next steps before you leave.

Routine attendance, roughly every six months for most people, is what actually keeps small problems small. A lot of decay and gum disease develops without any pain in its early stages, which is why regular checkups matter even when nothing seems to be wrong, rather than only booking an appointment once something hurts. Listed services at Rasmussen Periodontics and Implant Dentistry include Gum Disease Treatment. The full list is shown on this page.
Can gum disease make you lose teeth?
Yes — advanced gum disease is a leading cause of tooth loss in adults. It destroys the bone and fibres holding teeth in place, which is why teeth eventually loosen, and it usually progresses without pain.
What is scaling and root planing?
It is a deep cleaning that goes below the gumline to remove bacterial deposits from the root surfaces and smooth them so the gum can reattach. It is normally carried out under local anaesthetic, often over more than one appointment.
How can I look after my teeth between appointments?
Brushing twice a day with fluoride toothpaste and cleaning between the teeth daily covers most of it. Limiting how often sugary food and drink appear through the day matters more than the total amount consumed.

I was recommended to Rasmussen Periodontics & Implant Dentistry by my general dentist, and after three visits, I can truly say my heart is at peace with this choice. The doctor is amazing, patient, gentle, and so thorough in every explanation that I always felt informed and cared for. Melissa welcomes you with a warmth that feels like family, Virginia brings a joyful, bubbling spirit to X‑rays, Stacey handles every financial detail with professionalism and genuine thoughtfulness, and Bri showed deep compassion during my minor surgery that meant so much. Thank you, Rasmussen family, for serving with both excellence and heart. You are a blessing.

She was right.Dr. Rasmussen pulled it , no pain.He is so quick and excellent at what he does. I knew this from previous experience. I had full mouth extraction when he did my implants.. If you need anything done don’t hesitate! He is the best ❤️

Dr. Rasmussen and his staff are the most caring, professional, and knowledgeable providers I've had. Dr. R has been available and highly responsive to my questions, concerns, and frankly anxiety regarding dental procedures. I am grateful for his care and have been recommending him to everyone I know who needs a periodentist.

I am very pleased with my initial visit with Dr. Rasmussen. Everyone in the office was very friendly and made me feel comfortable right from the start. Dr. Rasmussen was not rushed and explained everything to me in detail and helped to ease my anxiety. Leandra, the coordinator, also took her time to schedule my appointments and make sure that I understood. The only thing that I would say that could be improved is if they accepted Aetna Dental Plan Discount as we no longer carry dental insurance as retirees.
