About Rittenhouse Smiles

Based on South 17th Street in the Rittenhouse Square area of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Rittenhouse Smiles is a dental practice serving the area. General dentistry covers the routine and restorative care most people need most often — examinations, cleanings, fillings, and preventive checks that catch problems while they are still small and inexpensive to treat. Regular attendance, roughly every six months for most patients, is what makes that early-catch approach actually work.

Continuity matters in dental care — seeing the same practice over time means your history, X-rays, and any patterns in your oral health are already on file, rather than starting from scratch at each visit. That familiarity is part of what a regular dental home offers beyond any single appointment.

Dental anxiety is common, and most practices are used to working with nervous patients — through clear explanations of what is about to happen, a slower pace where needed, and sedation options for patients who want them. Avoiding the dentist out of anxiety tends to make eventual treatment more involved, not less.

Children benefit from starting dental visits early, generally by their first birthday or within six months of the first tooth coming through, mainly so they become familiar with the setting before any treatment is actually needed. Establishing that routine early tends to make ongoing checkups far less stressful for both child and parent.

Payment and insurance arrangements vary by practice and by treatment, so it is worth asking directly what is covered and what options exist for anything that is not, rather than assuming either way. Getting that clarified before treatment starts avoids surprises once it is underway.

Beyond any single treatment, most dental visits start with an examination — checking for decay, reviewing the gums, and looking at existing fillings or crowns — often alongside X-rays where there is a reason to look between or beneath teeth. That groundwork is what a dentist uses to explain any findings and set out next steps before you leave. This page has the practice's contact details and full service list. I cracked a tooth on a Sunday, and had work travel first thing Monday morning and was very anxious about what to do. I called and the folks at Rittenhouse Smiles were absolutely incredible. They came in on Sunday and fixed the crack and were incredible kind and helpful. I can’t thank them enough for coming in for me on a Sunday with very little notice. I HIGHLY recommend trusting Rittenhouse Smiles with your dental needs. Thank you!!

I don’t know if my first post went through. Best Dennis in the world believe me you cannot find any better with more compassion and caring for her patient. And the work is unbelievable. Every girl in the office is very kind and caring. Thank you, dr for taking care of me.

I appreciate Dr. Cronin reaching out directly to me to make things right and Shalu for ensuring that the issue was resolved. I understand that mistakes happen, rarely at Rittenhouse Smiles, and I am mostly happy with the actual dental care I received. I am updating my review to 4 stars because I know everyone tried their best. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ I am disappointed in my experience with Rittenhouse Smiles, and I will not be returning. In summary, I was overcharged by over $200 and roped into an extra visit with xrays that I did not need or want.

Such an amazing team from the front desk to the exam rooms! Everyone is so nice and knowledgeable and make going the dentist a pleasant experience. Highly recommend Rittenhouse smiles for procedures or just for your 6 month check ups.

The only reason the overcharge was discovered was because I asked for an itemized bill. Initially the office told me they would just save the extra payment to put towards future services, and I refused. I have still not received a refund almost a month later. I chose Rittenhouse Smiles because of the great reviews, and because I wanted a specific cosmetic treatment done. I knew this office was out of my network, but I also knew I would have to pay out of pocket for cosmetic treatment anyway. I asked for just one appointment to do the treatment and was given mixed messages. It wasn't until my first appointment that I realized they had no intention of performing the treatment that day. They just took a look at my teeth (no cleaning) and then pressured me into taking new xrays (despite having sent over recent xrays from my previous dentist). I said I did not want new xrays, and would only do it if it was fully covered by my insurance. This appointment cost me $353 upfront, and my PPO insurance reimbursed me for less than half of it. In total I paid over $600 out of pocket (not counting the overcharge), when the cosmetic treatment I originally wanted was only $280 total. I could have saved hundreds of dollars by waiting to get this cosmetic treatment done at my dentist in my home state whom I have never had an issue with. I had a fine experience with the dentist and hygienist, but overall choosing Rittenhouse Smiles is a decision I regret. If you go here and you have insurance, you really need to advocate for yourself because they will not be transparent.

Rittenhouse Smiles was by far the best dental care I’ve ever gotten. Bri did an amazing job with my intake and imaging, and she was very nice and personable. Dr. Cooper was amazing and was so thorough and answered all of my questions and explained things specific to my oral health that I’ve never heard before so I feel so much more educated with oral care just after the first consultation. Office staff are all very nice and welcoming as well and figured out my dental insurance information for me which was very nice. Really excited to be established as a patient here and have top notch dental care, thank you!
