About Rittenhouse Smiles
Based on South 17th Street in the Rittenhouse Square area of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Rittenhouse Smiles is a dental practice serving the area. General dentistry covers the routine and restorative care most people need most often — examinations, cleanings, fillings, and preventive checks that catch problems while they are still small and inexpensive to treat. Regular attendance, roughly every six months for most patients, is what makes that early-catch approach actually work.
Continuity matters in dental care — seeing the same practice over time means your history, X-rays, and any patterns in your oral health are already on file, rather than starting from scratch at each visit. That familiarity is part of what a regular dental home offers beyond any single appointment.
Dental anxiety is common, and most practices are used to working with nervous patients — through clear explanations of what is about to happen, a slower pace where needed, and sedation options for patients who want them. Avoiding the dentist out of anxiety tends to make eventual treatment more involved, not less.
Children benefit from starting dental visits early, generally by their first birthday or within six months of the first tooth coming through, mainly so they become familiar with the setting before any treatment is actually needed. Establishing that routine early tends to make ongoing checkups far less stressful for both child and parent.
Payment and insurance arrangements vary by practice and by treatment, so it is worth asking directly what is covered and what options exist for anything that is not, rather than assuming either way. Getting that clarified before treatment starts avoids surprises once it is underway.
Beyond any single treatment, most dental visits start with an examination — checking for decay, reviewing the gums, and looking at existing fillings or crowns — often alongside X-rays where there is a reason to look between or beneath teeth. That groundwork is what a dentist uses to explain any findings and set out next steps before you leave. This page has the practice's contact details and full service list. I appreciate Dr. Cronin reaching out directly to me to make things right and Shalu for ensuring that the issue was resolved. I understand that mistakes happen, rarely at Rittenhouse Smiles, and I am mostly happy with the actual dental care I received. I am updating my review to 4 stars because I know everyone tried their best. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ I am disappointed in my experience with Rittenhouse Smiles, and I will not be returning. In summary, I was overcharged by over $200 and roped into an extra visit with xrays that I did not need or want. The only reason the overcharge was discovered was because I asked for an itemized bill. Initially the office told me they would just save the extra payment to put towards future services, and I refused. I have still not received a refund almost a month later. I chose Rittenhouse Smiles because of the great reviews, and because I wanted a specific cosmetic treatment done. I knew this office was out of my network, but I also knew I would have to pay out of pocket for cosmetic treatment anyway. I asked for just one appointment to do the treatment and was given mixed messages. It wasn't until my first appointment that I realized they had no intention of performing the treatment that day. They just took a look at my teeth (no cleaning) and then pressured me into taking new xrays (despite having sent over recent xrays from my previous dentist). I said I did not want new xrays, and would only do it if it was fully covered by my insurance. This appointment cost me $353 upfront, and my PPO insurance reimbursed me for less than half of it. In total I paid over $600 out of pocket (not counting the overcharge), when the cosmetic treatment I originally wanted was only $280 total. I could have saved hundreds of dollars by waiting to get this cosmetic treatment done at my dentist in my home state whom I have never had an issue with. I had a fine experience with the dentist and hygienist, but overall choosing Rittenhouse Smiles is a decision I regret. If you go here and you have insurance, you really need to advocate for yourself because they will not be transparent.
Rittenhouse Smiles was by far the best dental care I’ve ever gotten. Bri did an amazing job with my intake and imaging, and she was very nice and personable. Dr. Cooper was amazing and was so thorough and answered all of my questions and explained things specific to my oral health that I’ve never heard before so I feel so much more educated with oral care just after the first consultation. Office staff are all very nice and welcoming as well and figured out my dental insurance information for me which was very nice. Really excited to be established as a patient here and have top notch dental care, thank you!
The practice at Rittenhouse Smiles deserves every one of their 5 stars. All of the staff is incredibly kind, thorough, and professional. I have been going here for years, and each interaction is always a positive experience. Cleanliness is top notch, and the comfort menu is a thoughtful bonus! My teeth feel well taken care of by the team. Thank you for what you do!!!
Shalu, Kat, Destiny, and Dr. Cooper made me feel like a valued patient. Today was my second visit and already I feel comfortable in leaving my oral health in their hands. The professionalism, the genuine care they showed me, and the comprehensive overview of my dental health from Dr. Cooper mean everything to me. I recommend Rittenhouse Smiles!
Highly recommend Rittenhouse Dental! The entire team is professional, friendly, and truly cares about their patients. The staff is amazing, the service is excellent, and they handle all your dental needs with great attention and care. I always feel comfortable and well taken care of.
I had such an amazing experience here! In an emergency situation, I had to find a dentist quickly, and the team at Rittenhouse Smiles was able to get me in right away. Everyone in the office was extremely kind and accommodating! Destiny and Dr. Cooper were so amazing and informative, and set up a plan to treat my problem right away. Couldn't recommend them enough!
After some bad dental experiences in the past, I can confidently say that Rittenhouse Smiles has completely changed my perspective on going to the dentist! Dr. Cooper and the whole team are so welcoming and friendly, making every visit a pleasant one. I used to dread dental appointments, but now I actually look forward to my cleanings! A nice touch: they’ve got a coffee station and a fridge stocked with drinks, so you can help yourself while you wait. Plus, they offer a comfort menu with options to make your treatment even more relaxing. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a stress-free dental experience!
