About Ryan Health | NENA

Ryan Health NENA is a community health center located at 279 East 3rd Street in the Lower East Side neighborhood of Manhattan, part of the Ryan Health network of federally qualified health centers serving New York City. The facility provides general dentistry services alongside primary care and community health programs.

The dental department at Ryan Health NENA offers general dentistry care to community members in the Lower East Side and East Village neighborhoods. As a community health center, the facility serves patients regardless of insurance status and operates on a sliding-scale fee schedule for eligible patients, accepting Medicaid, CHIP, and other public insurance plans.

Routine dental services including examinations and cleanings are available through the dental department. As a community health center, the facility is designed to be accessible to residents of the Lower East Side—a historically diverse community with a significant proportion of Medicaid-eligible and uninsured residents who may not otherwise have access to private dental care.

New patients are encouraged to call ahead to confirm current dental appointment availability and to ask about the intake documentation required for their first visit. Community health centers can experience extended scheduling lead times for non-emergency dental care. Bringing insurance cards, identification, and any relevant health history to the first appointment helps streamline the intake process.

The Lower East Side location at East 3rd Street is close to Avenue C and Tompkins Square Park in the Loisaida community. The facility is accessible via the F train at Second Avenue station and the J, M, and Z lines at Delancey Street–Essex Street, and is convenient for residents of the Lower East Side, East Village, and Alphabet City. The facility serves a multilingual community, and patients who speak languages other than English are encouraged to confirm language availability with the dental department when scheduling.

Patients in the Lower East Side, East Village, and surrounding neighborhoods of Lower Manhattan seeking community-based general dental care can contact Ryan Health NENA through this page for information on current services, appointment scheduling, and eligibility for reduced-cost care.

I had a wonderful experience with women’s health at Ryan Health. I was always able to easily get an appointment, same day or the next day, with the same practitioner. I saw Nurse Practitioner/CNM, Maricela Garcia. She is kind and caring and took her time to answer any questions I had. The check-in process was always easy, front desk staff were very nice and helpful. I never had to wait any longer than 15 minutes. And if they were to be late for a telehealth the office would call to let you know. Thank you for providing the care that everyone deserves!

I’ve always had a great experience at this office! I see Dr. Park as my dentist and she is so great. I’d been to several dentists about some sensitivity and pain I’d been experiencing, and they had no answers for me. Dr. Park immediately identified the problem and gave me several paths forward to help. I took her advice and don’t have any more pain or sensitivity! Her cleanings are thorough, and the receptionist on the 4th floor is always so calm and accommodating and nice, even when the waiting room is chaotic. I also go here for their optometry services and have had an equally positive time. Finding doctors in NYC is so hard, especially for someone on marketplace insurance like me, and while Ryan Health tends to be busy because of their wide diversity of patients, I am always so happy and grateful to be treated by their competent and compassionate teams.

I would give this place zero stars if possible. Dr Howard was so rude and I have never had a gynecologist ask me about drug use before. I came as I was having irregular sometimes very long periods. I also if we could test my hormones, to which she said only if I wanted to get pregnant. I've had my fallopian tubs removed, so clearly that's a no. She pulled up some results I had for uterine polyps over a year ago before the new symptoms started and said I'm going through perimopause with no evidence. She knew I was overdue for a pap, but told me to come back for one a few months. If I got the pap my appointment would have been free instead I was billed for her top simply give me her opinion. I went to another doctor who checked my hormones and the levels were. normal. I also got another sonogram and it turns out a fibroid is causing my issues. Worst experience with a gynecologist in the 45 years of my life!

Worst OBGYN/ GYNECOLOGISTs! Dr Garcia and Dr Howard are the worst! Dr. Garcia after a conversation about birth control with her I explained that I am never having children. Her response is “Don’t ever say that you never will, you are gonna change your mind one day!” I was really shocked at her response. So I switched with Dr Howard and she was so nasty and had a bitter attitude towards me while doing a pap making me uncomfortable and like as if this is a punishment. Never again!

I have been a patient for a few years and honestly haven’t gone in for yearly check ups. I used to get text messages consistently to come in for annual check ups and asked not to receive anymore. Reason for my poor review. I fell in my apartment and hurt my back. I made an appointment and was given ibuprofen for pain and asked for X-rays. The nurse told me they wouldn’t do X-ray for 6 weeks and said she referred me for physical therapy. I asked who should I call? She said they will call me. 2 weeks later on a Friday to make an appointment and ask for a day they can do X-ray. I was given an appointment for Monday and saw another doctor who doesn’t review my case, asked the same questions and said she don’t think I need X-ray because it may or may not show anything. I was given a referral for therapy. This is my back I told her and explained that whether it shows something wrong or not I was expecting X-rays today 9/15/25. Never got X-rays and changed my PCP. I wouldn’t recommend them.

This review is for the dentist Dr Ophelia Jackson. I've been here a couple times and going back in March. Dr Jackson is always really nice and so is Claribel at the front desk on the 4th floor. Recommended. Got an appointment fairly quickly too.
