About Salem Family and Cosmetic Dentistry
Salem Family and Cosmetic Dentistry on Lancaster Drive Northeast runs as a combined general-and-cosmetic practice along the Lancaster commercial corridor that anchors much of northeast Salem's dental traffic. The clinic handles routine general dentistry — cleanings, fillings, crowns, root canals — alongside a working cosmetic layer for patients wanting whitening, bonding, or larger smile-design work. The dual shape suits households where one member wants a routine cleaning and another is planning veneers in the same calendar.
The service menu covers preventive cleanings, composite fillings, crowns and bridges, root canal treatment, basic extractions, gum-disease management, and emergency visits for acute issues, alongside cosmetic work like teeth whitening, dental bonding, and smile-design planning. The practice also handles same-day emergency dental visits when something cracks unexpectedly, a useful option when the regular calendar can't accommodate an urgent issue. Restorative work is generally conservative-first rather than maximalist on the opening visit.
If you're scoping a dental home along the Lancaster corridor and want a generalist who can also handle a future cosmetic project, this is the kind of practice where both threads can run on the same calendar.
Pricing sits in the mid-tier mid-Willamette range, with most major insurance plans accepted and clear pretreatment estimates available. Patients searching for a family dental practice in Salem, a preventive and restorative dentist in Salem, or a long-time family dentist in Salem, OR commonly end up at combined general-and-cosmetic practices like this one when continuity matters more than choosing a specialty office. It suits families wanting a single dental home that grows with them across years, and works for patients who'd rather not split their dental ecosystem between separate cleaning and cosmetic providers when one practice can carry both threads. First visits typically begin with a cleaning, full-mouth exam, and a brief cosmetic-readiness review so any future veneer or bonding work can be planned alongside ongoing routine care rather than scoped as a separate project later. The Lancaster Drive Northeast location sits along the corridor's main commercial belt, which makes it convenient for patients already routing other errands through the same area on the same trip.
Salem Family and Cosmetic Dentistry on Lancaster Drive Northeast combines general family care — cleanings, fillings, crowns, root canals — with cosmetic refreshes like whitening and bonding under one roof.

Friendly, thorough service.
I'd give zero stars if I could. Dr Rasmussen is by far the most incompetent and unprofessional dentist I have ever had the displeasure of working with. After causing a panic attack by involuntarily restraining my head for Nitrous, he took $1200 from me and applied to to someone else's account. I came back in, high on the only drug he would allow me to take, he removed my crown and placed a temp crown. As someone with severe dental anxiety, the assistant thought it would be awesome to show me the bloody gold tooth that was cut out of my mouth while the Dr showed me pics of my decayed tooth. I asked if I could have MY GOLD TOOTH and was told it would be cleaned up and given to me when I had the permanent crown seated. I asked him to look at another tooth which I had been complaining about for 18 months but he kept dismissing because nothing showed up on the x-rays. He agreed to fill it when I came in to have my permanent crown done. Somehow I also came out of that appointment being told I needed an additional appointment for a mouth guard, something we had never previously discussed. When I came in to have my permanent crown done, he glued the new crown on and started to drill on the other tooth. As he began to drill, he said, "Oh look there is a cavity there." 18 months I was telling him that. He also never gave me my gold tooth. So he cut one out of my mouth and kept it and made me pay for another one lol. There were also never any further conversations about the mouth guard. Now, not even a year later (9mos) I have to have the crown replaced AGAIN and the filling re-done, because I still have pain in both. That's interesting.... ... ... Avoid this place like the plague
Been a patient for years. Love their excellent quality work, willingness to attend to your needs and all around services from start to finish. Recommend for sure.
Debbie did an excellent job cleaning my teeth today. She is very personable and skilled. Dr. Rasmussen spent time getting to know me as a new patient. Was very thorough in his examination as well.
Ever since the practice is under new ownership/management it has been a bad experience. I’ve been going to this dentist office for 11 years (under Dr. Huyssoon ownership) and the experience had always been pleasant and professional. Under the new ownership I’ve experienced over-billing, then very slow communication between the dentist and insurance company to the point that I lost funds in my FSA (which is time limited). Also, it feels like treatments are being pushed (e.g. crown replacements), I assume to get the most money out of the customer. The last straw was today, I came in for a periodical cleaning, typically free as preventative care via my insurance, now I have to pay like $135.00 as they insist they can’t do a normal cleaning, it’s now called something else and that’s not fully covered! I asked for a normal periodical cleaning and for some unknown reason they can’t do that, it has to be the ‘new’ cleaning method where I have to pay a part myself. Needles or say, I’ll be looking for a new dentist office.
Had our first appointments this morning for both my son and I. We didn't have such a great experience at Advantage Dental. However here at Salem Family it was so much better. Everyone from front office to Dental assistant to Dr. Rasmussen were wonderful. Honestly the best service experience I've ever had and I have been to many dentist and many cleanings due to periodontal needs after having my son. We will remain customers! Thank you all.
Was looking for a new dentist as my current dentist decided my cracked molar was no big deal until it started falling apart. I made an appointment with this practice, a couple of weeks out so I could wait until my new insurance kicked in. In the meantime this practice wanted me to come in before my appointment to get updated x-rays etc. I did that and was very happy with everybody until I found out that my original appointment was given to somebody else. I have a tooth that needs a crown and no appointment and nobody will do anything about it. They arbitrarily took my name off an appointment I made knowing I needed a crown. If they think I'm going to give them $2,500 for that kind of service they're crackers.
Dr. Rasmussen was EXCELLENT. He was so informative and gave me treatment plans that were considerate of my wallet and health. I have never left a dentist feeling so positive.
