About Salem Periodontal and Implant Specialist

Based on 12th Place Southeast in the Morningside area of Salem, Oregon, Salem Periodontal and Implant Specialist is a dental practice serving the area. Periodontics is the specialty focused on the gums and the bone supporting the teeth, handling more advanced gum disease, related surgical treatment, and — in many practices — dental implant placement, which sits naturally alongside that training.

Children benefit from starting dental visits early, generally by their first birthday or within six months of the first tooth coming through, mainly so they become familiar with the setting before any treatment is actually needed. Establishing that routine early tends to make ongoing checkups far less stressful for both child and parent.

Payment and insurance arrangements vary by practice and by treatment, so it is worth asking directly what is covered and what options exist for anything that is not, rather than assuming either way. Getting that clarified before treatment starts avoids surprises once it is underway.

Beyond any single treatment, most dental visits start with an examination — checking for decay, reviewing the gums, and looking at existing fillings or crowns — often alongside X-rays where there is a reason to look between or beneath teeth. That groundwork is what a dentist uses to explain any findings and set out next steps before you leave.

Routine attendance, roughly every six months for most people, is what actually keeps small problems small. A lot of decay and gum disease develops without any pain in its early stages, which is why regular checkups matter even when nothing seems to be wrong, rather than only booking an appointment once something hurts.

A first appointment at a new practice typically covers a full examination, a review of your dental and medical history, and a professional cleaning, with X-rays if you do not have recent ones. It is also a reasonable time to raise any longer-term concerns, cosmetic or otherwise, so they can be factored into a plan going forward. Can a periodontist save a loose tooth?
Sometimes. If the looseness comes from bone loss around the tooth, deep cleaning and periodontal treatment can stabilise it, though the outcome depends on how much support has already been lost.
Do periodontists place dental implants?
Many do, since implant placement sits naturally alongside their training in the gum and bone that support teeth. Whether a specific practice offers it is worth confirming directly.
Is it normal for teeth to be sensitive to cold?
Mild, brief sensitivity is common and often relates to exposed root surfaces or worn enamel. Sensitivity that lingers after the cold is removed is more significant and worth having examined, as it can indicate the nerve is involved.

My girlfriend had surgery here. Recently she wanted some questions answered over the phone about some potential concerns. She had called in a few times for more clarification and after the last time, the dental assistant on the phone snapped at her! She told me she made her cry! Very poor business practices and terrible treatment for someone just trying to get better. No matter how many questions someone has, they should get them answered with respect. Would give them negative stars if I could. They have made zero attempts to reconcile with her.

Dr Kandil and Mattie have worked very diligently and skillfully trying to give me my smile back after “botched” surgery elsewhere affected (loss of) my front teeth, gums, roots, and bone. I’m an RN with high standards and Dr Kaindil and Mattie have exceeded expectation. I recommend them to the highest degree and Lauren at the front desk is the icing on this cake.

As soon as you walk in you are greeted with smile and kindness. The front office girls and office manager are kinds, knowledgeable and work to make sure all you concerns are addressed. When brought back the Dental assistants are just as kind. They are good and efficient at their jobs. Dr. Kaindl puts you right at ease and is quick, efficient and professional. The whole experience made for a positive one. I've been one to say "I hate dentist" mostly meaning the experience. This time though, it was completely different. I won't be hesitant to return if I ever need to. I now have a beautiful smile again. Thank you Salem Periodontal.❤️

I love this place. Got referred to them, and within the week I had an appointment. The staff were all professional, courteous, made me feel welcome, like I was at home with friends. Dr Kaindl was professional, quick, knowledgable. Seemed more like a friendly uncle than a doctor, didn't talk down to me, just explained what needed to happen, and had a plan for my care really quickly. Definitely recommend them if you need something done.
