About Salt Lake Pediatric Dentistry - Holladay
Five pediatric dentists share this group — David Gustafson, DDS, MS; Jeffery K. Rupp, DMD, MS; Whitney Jensen, DDS; Jed C. Nordfelt, DMD; and Daniel C. Ford, DDS — across offices in Holladay, Taylorsville and Cottonwood Heights. The Holladay clinic at 1548 East 4500 South sits on one of the valley's main east-west arterials, minutes from Highland Drive and Holladay Village. A group that size changes what a specialty office can absorb: complex medical histories, children with special needs, dental trauma and severe anxiety are all described as routine work here rather than cases sent elsewhere.
A first visit is deliberately unhurried. The team's stated approach is to treat each child as an individual and to teach rather than surprise, so expect an exam, a cleaning, fluoride, and an explanation of what is happening in your child's mouth pitched at your child, not only at you. Sealants come up for discussion once the six-year molars arrive. Where treatment is needed, the office does composite fillings, crowns, pulpotomies and extractions, and it uses laser technology for frenectomies on infants with a restrictive tongue or lip tie. A pulpotomy, sometimes called a baby root canal, removes infected tissue from the crown of a primary molar while leaving the healthy root portion undisturbed, which keeps the tooth working as a natural space holder until it is due to fall out on its own.
For children who cannot be treated awake, both oral and IV sedation are available in-office. That is worth understanding plainly: oral sedation makes a nervous child drowsy and more cooperative but does not guarantee stillness, while IV sedation goes deeper and brings its own fasting rules and monitoring requirements. The team will talk through which tier fits your child's age, weight, health history and the volume of work to be done.
Practically, Holladay is the group's steadiest schedule — 8:00 to 4:30 every weekday, which is unusual among children's offices in this part of the valley, several of which close by mid-afternoon or take a day off midweek. Emergency pediatric care is offered. Night guards and custom sports mouthguards are made here too, which matters if you have a grinder in the house or a kid playing contact sports at Olympus or Skyline.
The Holladay office of a five-dentist pediatric group that also runs clinics in Taylorsville and Cottonwood Heights. It handles routine prevention alongside special-needs care, dental trauma and complex medical histories, offers both oral and IV sedation in-office, and uses laser frenectomy for infant tongue and lip ties. Open 8:00 to 4:30 every weekday, which is a longer week than most children's offices nearby keep.

First time going to the dentist with my kiddo. The staff was awesome and explained the process of what they were going to do. Dentist was awesome, and explained what to watch out for.
The people was so kind and so passionate
We love this office as much as you can love visiting the dentist. The Docs are all good with the kids. The hygienists and assistants are kind. Alexi is our favorite. Dr. Rupp is fantastic and forthright. I don’t feel like they’re just trying to find problems and make money. I’m so glad my kids are comfortable going to the dentist.
I couldn’t recommend this team of professionals more! They really helped support my child and myself through a bigger dental procedure on my little one and they completely took care of her and even me a little! Staff was kind and professional, Cloud9 sedation was informative and caring for my child and I couldn’t have had a better experience elsewhere. THANK YOU!
Every single person we came into contact with during both of our visits were all kind, understanding, and so patient. My son is definitely not easy to handle when it comes to doctors/dentist, but by the second visit, he was a lot more comfortable. And one thing that stood out to me, was the level of communication. There wasn’t a moment where I didn’t know what was going on with my child during his sedation or what work was needing to be done. Thank you all so much for taking care of my son, and thank you all for making me feel better when the first appointment was rough!
We love our dentists! They have been with our kids their entire lives, and have always been warm and professional with our kids. The facilities (both offices) are clean, the staff is friendly, and they are always on time. We have referred many family and friends and can't say enough good things about Salt Lake Pediatric Dentistry!
We’ve recently switched to Salt Lake Pediatric Dentistry after a less than desirable couple of years at another prominent pediatric dentist in the East Millcreek. They came as a referral from a close friend and we are happy to have made the switch. My youngest has special needs and they’ve all been sooo patient and helpful with him. He is now no longer afraid to have his teeth cleaned. They do a great job with my other 3 typical kiddos. I highly recommend them to anyone
So great! Professional yet friendly staff. They're great with all my kiddos--even the super nervous one who had to get a tooth pulled. They made her feel at ease and even made parts of it kind of fun for her. I really appreciate it because she dreads any dentist or doctor appointment and has SO much anxiety. The assistants and dentists know how to talk to the kids and parents and I really appreciate it!
