About San Francisco Dental Arts

San Francisco Dental Arts operates on Montgomery Street in the Financial District area of San Francisco, California. Holistic, or biological, dentistry applies standard dental diagnosis and treatment within an approach that emphasises material choice and conservative treatment, considering oral health as connected to the body more broadly rather than treating the mouth in isolation.

Dental anxiety is common, and most practices are used to working with nervous patients — through clear explanations of what is about to happen, a slower pace where needed, and sedation options for patients who want them. Avoiding the dentist out of anxiety tends to make eventual treatment more involved, not less.

Children benefit from starting dental visits early, generally by their first birthday or within six months of the first tooth coming through, mainly so they become familiar with the setting before any treatment is actually needed. Establishing that routine early tends to make ongoing checkups far less stressful for both child and parent.

Payment and insurance arrangements vary by practice and by treatment, so it is worth asking directly what is covered and what options exist for anything that is not, rather than assuming either way. Getting that clarified before treatment starts avoids surprises once it is underway.

Beyond any single treatment, most dental visits start with an examination — checking for decay, reviewing the gums, and looking at existing fillings or crowns — often alongside X-rays where there is a reason to look between or beneath teeth. That groundwork is what a dentist uses to explain any findings and set out next steps before you leave.

Routine attendance, roughly every six months for most people, is what actually keeps small problems small. A lot of decay and gum disease develops without any pain in its early stages, which is why regular checkups matter even when nothing seems to be wrong, rather than only booking an appointment once something hurts. It can be, since ceramic and composite materials and more conservative techniques sometimes cost more than the cheapest alternative. Pricing varies by practice, so it is worth asking directly rather than assuming.
Are holistic dentists still trained in regular dentistry?
Yes. A holistic practice is a licensed dental practice that has chosen a particular philosophy around materials and conservative treatment — it is not a separate qualification, and standard diagnosis and treatment still apply.
What happens during a routine dental examination?
The dentist checks the teeth for decay, examines the gums, looks at any existing fillings and crowns, and screens the soft tissues. X-rays are taken when there is a reason to look between or beneath teeth.

Dr. Siu performed a dental miracle for me. I am 89 years old. I broke a front tooth on a Saturday night while eating. Tuesday afternoon, he replaced the missing tooth using the Bioclear system which did not involve an implant or a plate. Just a virtual new tooth! Thanks, Dr. Siu!

Had a very positive experience at San Francisco Dental Arts. Dr. Siu was extremely thorough and stayed late to carefully explain everything to me, which I really appreciated. He also provided a detailed report of his findings and recommendations. I especially appreciated his conservative approach focused on preserving natural tooth structure rather than immediately pushing veneers. The staff were warm and attentive, they even brought me water when I started coughing during the appointment. Also the first time I’ve ever talked to a dentist with a small dog sitting on my lap, which honestly made the experience more relaxing and memorable. Prices were definitely high, though that’s probably expected for a cosmetic practice in San Francisco’s Financial District. That said, the quality of care, communication, and attention to detail seemed very high as well.

This wasn’t the best experience. The staff didn’t seem particularly welcoming, and I was surprised by additional charges for services that are usually included in standard cleanings at many dental offices in San Francisco, such as a “gloss” treatment and an electronic copy of the patient’s records. From my previous visits to other dentists, I found the cleaning to be somewhat superficial, perhaps because there was no hygienist or dental assistant present during my visit, but rather a dental student assisting him. I decided not to pursue any further treatment with this office. I give three stars for the dog, cleanliness, and imagery device.

I will tell anyone and everyone but Dr. Siu and his staff are the BEST. He has all the latest technology to make your experience as a patient as quick and painless as possible. Having his sweet dog Molly to sit on your lap as a therapy dog is just an example of how thoughtful he is about the patient and their needs!

Another fun outing, this time to get ready for an implant. When is getting an implant ever fun? But Dr. Siu and his staff are all so affable that yes, I enjoyed the trip. Dr. Siu's practice is highly recommended.

I’ve been a patient at San Francisco Dental Arts since 2012, and they continue to exceed expectations. Dr. Siu and his team are professional, kind, and always thorough. Whether it’s a routine cleaning or a more complex issue, I always feel informed, supported, and well cared for. The office is modern, spotless, and welcoming, and the entire experience—from scheduling to treatment—is seamless. After more than a decade, I genuinely trust them with my dental health. Thank you, SF Dental Arts, for your outstanding care and consistency over the years! — Annet K.

I’ve been going to Dr. Stanley Siu for over 15 years, and I couldn’t be happier with the care I’ve received. He is extremely professional, knowledgeable, and always takes the time to explain everything clearly. One of the things I appreciate most is that he never recommends unnecessary treatments—he always puts the patient’s best interest first. The staff is also amazing—super friendly, welcoming, and helpful, which makes every visit a positive experience. Dr. Stanley Siu consistently does excellent work, follows up after procedures, and truly goes above and beyond to make sure his patients are well taken care of. I highly recommend him to anyone looking for a trustworthy and skilled dentist!
