About Senestraro Orthodontics - Portland
Senestraro Orthodontics - Portland operates on Southeast Woodstock Boulevard in the Southeast Portland area of Portland, Oregon. Orthodontic treatment straightens teeth and corrects bite problems using braces, clear aligners, or similar appliances over a period that commonly runs from about a year to several years depending on the case. It is offered to both children, where early evaluation can catch developing issues, and adults at any age.
Left untreated, small dental problems tend not to stay small. A minor cavity that would have been a straightforward filling can progress to needing root canal treatment and a crown, and early gum inflammation that would have reversed with a good cleaning can progress toward bone loss around the teeth. Catching things early is generally the difference in both effort and cost.
Continuity matters in dental care — seeing the same practice over time means your history, X-rays, and any patterns in your oral health are already on file, rather than starting from scratch at each visit. That familiarity is part of what a regular dental home offers beyond any single appointment.
Dental anxiety is common, and most practices are used to working with nervous patients — through clear explanations of what is about to happen, a slower pace where needed, and sedation options for patients who want them. Avoiding the dentist out of anxiety tends to make eventual treatment more involved, not less.
Children benefit from starting dental visits early, generally by their first birthday or within six months of the first tooth coming through, mainly so they become familiar with the setting before any treatment is actually needed. Establishing that routine early tends to make ongoing checkups far less stressful for both child and parent.
Payment and insurance arrangements vary by practice and by treatment, so it is worth asking directly what is covered and what options exist for anything that is not, rather than assuming either way. Getting that clarified before treatment starts avoids surprises once it is underway. Absolutely a wonderful place to bring yourself or kids to get Ortho work. The ambiance and the authenticity of care were stunning! Every staff member that I encountered was lovely and I truly felt heard by both the Treatment Coordinator and the Orthodontist. They helped me to feel safe and at ease about getting work done as I have an intense dental situation to correct. Thank you to my Dentist @Cedar Dental for recommending Senestraro! I'm looking forward to getting Invisalign!
We had an excellent experience with Senestraro Orthodontics. The atmosphere was stress-free, informative, and details of the plan were clearly explained. Most importantly, our kiddo felt comfortable/ calm in the office and Dr. Z was kind and helpful. Additionally, Mel helped us understand our costs (extremely fair pricing) and our insurance benefits with great detail and answered all of our questions thoroughly and kindly.
The staff was extremely friendly gave me Al the information I needed and the office was super clean and inviting.
TL;DR: 100/10, Highly recommend! I want to preface this by saying that I used to work in orthodontics, so when looking for an orthodontist, I was looking for more than just a treatment plan. I'm looking for the right vibe, culture, and overall experience. I had been quoted elsewhere, but it just didn't feel like the right fit. From the moment I walked into this office, I knew it was different. The front office staff greeted me with huge smiles and made me feel genuinely welcome. Scarlett, the treatment coordinator, is such a beautiful soul. She was outgoing, relatable, and took the time to really get to know me and understand what I was looking for. I never felt rushed or pressured, and I definitely felt heard throughout the consultation. I also have two French Bulldogs at home, so seeing the doctor's dog in the office instantly made me feel right at home. It's those little things that tell you a lot about a practice. Overall, you can tell that the doctor and staff truly care about their patients, their culture, and the work they do. Everyone seems happy to be there, and that positive energy is felt the second you walk through the door. If you're looking for an orthodontic office that feels warm, welcoming, and genuinely caring, I highly recommend checking them out.
I’d say our experience was ok. In hindsight I’m not sure we should have gotten braces for our son, and if we did I would have gone somewhere smaller with a more genuine feel. The technicians felt robotic and not very helpful/knowledgeable, barring one or two, and the front desk staff were often fake nice with a couple exceptions. They sponsor local school events but don’t actually feel like part of the community-it’s very much a business, concerned heavily with marketing. We were often confused about next steps and procedures because the information was imparted so perfunctorily, and it was extremely hard for my son to comply with having to put in four bands anytime he wasn’t eating (also, fast growing 13 yo=lots of eating). We were often unclear about which teeth were to be banded and there didn’t seem to be a lot of interest in clarifying. We ended up concluding early because his band compliance just wasn’t as high as it was supposed to be and I thought it was more important that he could clean his teeth well if that’s all his braces were still on for. And now he’s supposed to wear two retainers all the time for months, which again is going to be hard to comply with. I’m just not sure it’s worth it if there’s a good chance his teeth will shift back if he’s not fully compliant. Overall, not a terrible experience, but not great either.
My daughter (8 y/o) got her braces, and an expander here. She said they answered all her questions, and helped her feel calm through the whole experience. They are super welcoming and have fun incentives for being at scheduled appointments. She says they did a great job! I also appreciate their electronic communication (texts) making it easier to deal with questions during the work day. I'll be getting my aligners there in two weeks!
At my most recent visit, the staff were incredible! I asked for pink bands, which were apparently tougher to put on, but they did their best work to make sure that I got the color I wanted. They were more than kind and understanding, especially Maddie, went above and beyond to make sure that I was comfortable and content throughout the visit. They answered all of my questions and concerns kindly and without judgment, no matter how silly the question. In a less professional but very important perspective, I absolutely loved the feeling of strong womanhood in the office; everyone in the office is great but I particularly admire the abundance of woman empowerment between both the staff and patients. The office gives fantastic, welcoming Portland energy, the quirkiness of the environment makes it really feel like seeing the orthodontist is not just a chore. I appreciate that as a 22 year old, I am spoken to like an understanding adult but still get tokens and the fun aspect of it that my inner child just adores! Amazing office, amazing staff, and I look forward to my next visit!
I've had braces before when I was younger. Needed to do it again as an adult. This place is very professional and I can attest from previous experiences this place is top notch and provides high quality braces. The doc is very good at what he does. Well I have 10 months to go! Thank you.
