About Serenity Dental Spa

Based on California Street in the Financial District area of San Francisco, California, Serenity Dental Spa is a dental practice serving the area. Sedation dentistry uses inhaled, oral, or intravenous options to help patients relax through treatment, ranging from nitrous oxide for mild anxiety through to deeper sedation for longer or more involved procedures. It is commonly used for patients who have avoided the dentist for years due to fear.

A first appointment at a new practice typically covers a full examination, a review of your dental and medical history, and a professional cleaning, with X-rays if you do not have recent ones. It is also a reasonable time to raise any longer-term concerns, cosmetic or otherwise, so they can be factored into a plan going forward.

Day-to-day oral health still comes down to the basics between visits — brushing twice daily with fluoride toothpaste, cleaning between the teeth, and limiting how often sugary food and drink appear through the day matters more than the total amount eaten at once. Regular professional care is what catches whatever those habits do not.

Digital X-rays are a routine part of dental care because they show what a visual exam alone cannot — decay forming between teeth, bone loss below the gumline, and how developing adult teeth are positioned in children. They use a low radiation dose and are taken on a schedule matched to individual risk rather than at every single visit.

Left untreated, small dental problems tend not to stay small. A minor cavity that would have been a straightforward filling can progress to needing root canal treatment and a crown, and early gum inflammation that would have reversed with a good cleaning can progress toward bone loss around the teeth. Catching things early is generally the difference in both effort and cost. Is sedation dentistry safe?
It is considered safe when properly assessed and monitored, which is why your medical history and current medications matter beforehand. Being open about those is the main thing that keeps it safe.
Can sedation help with dental phobia?
It is one of the main reasons people use it. For patients who have avoided treatment for years, sedation often makes the first appointment possible, and some become more comfortable with routine care afterward.
Is it normal for teeth to be sensitive to cold?
Mild, brief sensitivity is common and often relates to exposed root surfaces or worn enamel. Sensitivity that lingers after the cold is removed is more significant and worth having examined, as it can indicate the nerve is involved.

They permanently damaged my teeth!! I got three cavities pulled here by a male dentist immediately felt sensitivity, sharp nerve pain that would not go away. I suspect he cracked my tooth and also left my back molar forever sensitized. it hurts to eat hot and cold foods and I can’t chew on my left side anymore. The damage doesn’t show on an xray either. Do not go here if you want to live with pain for the rest of your life.

Tried to upsell me on an unnecessary preventative “deep cleaning” and Invisalign, Worse, they kept stonewalling on doing a basic cleaning because it would only clean above the gum line and because they are understaffed. Left with nothing done, a bunch of unnecessary x-rays and unwanted Invisalign scans. Waste of my time going down. The front desk and dentist were really friendly though!

Second time going to serenity. They always do a thorough job and when you have issues they work with you on treatment options so it fits with your budget. I have some recession on my gums and unlike my last dentist, they went over more affordable options then going right to a deep cleaning.

Had a great experience with the compassionate and comprehensive staff at Serenity. Dr. Perez and Ivan took the time to explain everything related to my care in detail, and Dolly helped me feel comfortable through the scans. Thank you team!

I had a very positive experience. The dentists were extremely professional, patient, and kind throughout the entire appointment. They took the time to explain everything clearly and made sure I felt comfortable at every step. The staff was also very friendly and welcoming. I truly appreciated their attention to detail and care. I would definitely recommend this practice to anyone looking for a trustworthy and compassionate dental team.

This was my second experience with Serenity Spa. I visited once for a check-up and again for a deep cleaning. My first visit was frankly unpleasant. I went in expecting a routine annual cleaning and instead was subjected to repeated upselling of additional services, presented as largely covered by insurance but later turning out not to be. For an inexperienced customer, this felt misleading and uncomfortable. Another tactic I noticed was introducing add-on services mid-procedure, which puts the customer on the spot and makes it difficult to make an informed decision. For my second visit, I was much more cautious. I clearly stated what I wanted and did not want, and I carefully reviewed every document before signing. Despite this, I still ended up paying significantly more than the original estimate because an additional treatment, introduced mid-procedure and not covered by insurance, was presented as necessary. Being forced to decide during treatment, without time to research or consider alternatives, is not something I appreciate. To be clear, the quality of the treatment itself was very good. However, the overall experience, particularly the sales and billing practices, made the visit unpleasant and stressful.

The Dental Hygienist, Ivan, and the Dentist, Dr. Seah, were both very professional, accommodating, and very helpful and patient with my questions and concerns. They explained my dental situation in clear and easy to understand terms and I appreciate their care. The office staff were also very helpful and professional. Everything is clean and tidy, and the technology they used was interesting. I was able to see images and scans of all my teeth, which helped me better understand what I'm working with.
