About Small World Pediatric Dentistry
Small World Pediatric Dentistry operates on Northwest 50th Street in the Central Oklahoma City area of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Pediatric dental care is built around treating children specifically — dentists with additional training in child development and behaviour management, and offices designed to make a first visit unintimidating. Guidance generally points to a child's first dental visit around age one or within six months of the first tooth.
Routine attendance, roughly every six months for most people, is what actually keeps small problems small. A lot of decay and gum disease develops without any pain in its early stages, which is why regular checkups matter even when nothing seems to be wrong, rather than only booking an appointment once something hurts.
A first appointment at a new practice typically covers a full examination, a review of your dental and medical history, and a professional cleaning, with X-rays if you do not have recent ones. It is also a reasonable time to raise any longer-term concerns, cosmetic or otherwise, so they can be factored into a plan going forward.
Day-to-day oral health still comes down to the basics between visits — brushing twice daily with fluoride toothpaste, cleaning between the teeth, and limiting how often sugary food and drink appear through the day matters more than the total amount eaten at once. Regular professional care is what catches whatever those habits do not.
Digital X-rays are a routine part of dental care because they show what a visual exam alone cannot — decay forming between teeth, bone loss below the gumline, and how developing adult teeth are positioned in children. They use a low radiation dose and are taken on a schedule matched to individual risk rather than at every single visit.
Left untreated, small dental problems tend not to stay small. A minor cavity that would have been a straightforward filling can progress to needing root canal treatment and a crown, and early gum inflammation that would have reversed with a good cleaning can progress toward bone loss around the teeth. Catching things early is generally the difference in both effort and cost. My son loves this dentist office. They take really good care of him.
We’ve had such a good experience here with our kids. The office is super kid-friendly and welcoming, and everyone we’ve interacted with has been kind, patient, and great with children. I’m a pediatric nurse, so I know how much of a difference it makes when people really understand how to talk to kids and make them feel comfortable. That’s actually one of the main reasons we wanted a pediatric dentist in the first place. You can tell the staff here genuinely know kids and know how to make visits less stressful for both the kids and parents. My kids feel comfortable here, which honestly says everything.
Dr. Guthrie is great with my son and his office decor is incredible. Kids get a $1 if they have no cavities, a balloon, and a toy. 10/10 experience!
This is one of the best dental offices for children. The environment is extremely kid-friendly, making it comfortable and welcoming for young patients. The staff are all very friendly and patient, especially Kelly, who went out of her way to make my son feel special and brave after his first-ever dental cleaning. She even gave him toys and a balloon, which made the experience so memorable for him. Prior to this visit, dental appointments for him had only involved quick checkups, but this was his first cleaning and the team made it such a positive experience. The doctor was also incredibly kind and gentle with him. I truly appreciate how thoughtful and caring the entire staff was. Highly recommend this place for kids!
Dr Guthrie and everyone in his office is amazing! I contacted them when my daughter fell and chipped her front tooth and they were able to work me into the schedule the same day I called. They are all very kind and helped us tremendously! My daughter is now a continued patient at his office.
The care at Small World pediatric dentistry is always exceptional. Dr. Guthrie and his staff are informative, patient, and helpful. Thankful for my kids to have the opportunity to be seen here!
