About Smile Explorers Pediatric Dentistry

Smile Explorers Pediatric Dentistry operates on West Deer Valley Road in the Deer Valley area of Glendale, Arizona. Pediatric dental care is built around treating children specifically — dentists with additional training in child development and behaviour management, and offices designed to make a first visit unintimidating. Guidance generally points to a child's first dental visit around age one or within six months of the first tooth.

Dental anxiety is common, and most practices are used to working with nervous patients — through clear explanations of what is about to happen, a slower pace where needed, and sedation options for patients who want them. Avoiding the dentist out of anxiety tends to make eventual treatment more involved, not less.

Children benefit from starting dental visits early, generally by their first birthday or within six months of the first tooth coming through, mainly so they become familiar with the setting before any treatment is actually needed. Establishing that routine early tends to make ongoing checkups far less stressful for both child and parent.

Payment and insurance arrangements vary by practice and by treatment, so it is worth asking directly what is covered and what options exist for anything that is not, rather than assuming either way. Getting that clarified before treatment starts avoids surprises once it is underway.

Beyond any single treatment, most dental visits start with an examination — checking for decay, reviewing the gums, and looking at existing fillings or crowns — often alongside X-rays where there is a reason to look between or beneath teeth. That groundwork is what a dentist uses to explain any findings and set out next steps before you leave.

Routine attendance, roughly every six months for most people, is what actually keeps small problems small. A lot of decay and gum disease develops without any pain in its early stages, which is why regular checkups matter even when nothing seems to be wrong, rather than only booking an appointment once something hurts. Are dental X-rays safe for children?
Modern digital X-rays use a very low dose and are taken only when there is a clinical reason. They show decay between teeth and problems with developing adult teeth that cannot be seen by looking.
When do children start losing baby teeth?
Usually from around age six, continuing until roughly age twelve, though the timing varies widely between children. Adult molars also come through at the back around age six without any baby tooth falling out first.
How can I look after my teeth between appointments?
Brushing twice a day with fluoride toothpaste and cleaning between the teeth daily covers most of it. Limiting how often sugary food and drink appear through the day matters more than the total amount consumed.

Recently switched to this dentist for my daughters, been very happy with the team here. They do a much more thorough job and actually clean their teeth. The last place just barely cleaned them, then polish and charged me over $500.00

Great pediatric dental office! The staff is friendly, the office is clean, and appointments always run smoothly. Celeste was a wonderful dental assistant, and Genesis at the front desk was very helpful and welcoming. Dr. Dave takes time to explain things clearly, and the prizes at the end are a big hit with my daughters. Highly recommend! 😊

We have been bringing our child here for about 2 years now and Dr. Dave and the staff are amazing. He is very patient and caters to the child's needs as well as whats best for child. Our kiddo is on the spectrum as well and he knows just how to deal with him. We are so happy and grateful that we found Smile Explorers!

Dr. Dave and his helper Adamari are very professional and always give us the best quality care. They are a great team! They are always so nice and gentle with my little one and make sure that he is at ease and not scared during his appointments. Him and his team always make sure to answer any of my questions and concerns and are always helpful and informative. The dental office itself is very clean and kid friendly! I highly recommend this dental office!

Excellent experience. The dentist tried connecting with my son prior to starting the exam and that meant a lot. He spent time discussing my concerns and reassured me that my son’s teeth were okay after having a horrible exam at a different office. The time he spent explaining and educating me was much appreciated.

I had two separate consults before having a third because of the degree of difficulty I was encountering with not only some of the hardships about some issues with her teeth, but also my comfort level with the dentist or staff and therein. When I tell you I instantly felt at home when I walked in this place and so did my daughter, treated with immediate kind, enthusiastic and informative energy from the staff and the dentist I would give it six stars and we still have some more work to do but today was our first visit post consult and everything went really well and so far so good. So thank you for your honesty. Thank you for your transparency and thank you for making my daughter feel comfortable today !
