About Smiley Dental & Orthodontics

Smiley Dental & Orthodontics provides dental care on Roosevelt Avenue in the Harlandale area of San Antonio, Texas. Traditional braces use brackets and wires to gradually move teeth into alignment, handling complex bite corrections and significant crowding more predictably than removable alternatives. Treatment commonly runs one to three years, with a retainer worn afterward to hold the result.

Orthodontic treatment straightens teeth and corrects bite problems using braces, clear aligners, or similar appliances over a period that commonly runs from about a year to several years depending on the case. It is offered to both children, where early evaluation can catch developing issues, and adults at any age.

Payment and insurance arrangements vary by practice and by treatment, so it is worth asking directly what is covered and what options exist for anything that is not, rather than assuming either way. Getting that clarified before treatment starts avoids surprises once it is underway.

Beyond any single treatment, most dental visits start with an examination — checking for decay, reviewing the gums, and looking at existing fillings or crowns — often alongside X-rays where there is a reason to look between or beneath teeth. That groundwork is what a dentist uses to explain any findings and set out next steps before you leave.

Routine attendance, roughly every six months for most people, is what actually keeps small problems small. A lot of decay and gum disease develops without any pain in its early stages, which is why regular checkups matter even when nothing seems to be wrong, rather than only booking an appointment once something hurts.

A first appointment at a new practice typically covers a full examination, a review of your dental and medical history, and a professional cleaning, with X-rays if you do not have recent ones. It is also a reasonable time to raise any longer-term concerns, cosmetic or otherwise, so they can be factored into a plan going forward. Was able to get treatment even without having an appointment scheduled. They were able to remove my third molar the same day and everything went really smooth.

Had an orthodontic consultation with Dr. Mercado. He is very knowledgeable and had great bedside manner explaining everything thoroughly. Highly recommend Smiley Dental. I have been taking my daughter since age 4 for all her cleanings and treatments. The dentistry side is great too!

My first few experiences here were nice back in 2021 when I first joined. That is not the case here anymore I get both my braces & dental work here. Office staff is not great. They are not accommodating at all. For a Vietnamese owned dental chain they are not Vietnamese friendly. They tend to "forget" to add things to the quotes & bills and some how there's always an issue. I'm honestly not happy about my braces. My orthodontist says there's nothing he can do about my molars shifting when getting braces due to the wires. Mind you this is my second time getting braces. I had to basically beg him to try something, but now is telling me there's nothing to do because my teeth are straight. They do not have brace appointments every day. Any need of urgent care, you have to go to different locations. Dental staff has been great. Teeth extractions have been simple. But honestly If I get anything done here I have to plan for an hour wait after my appointment to be seen. It's at least 2-3 hour time spent in the office

My first time here in this place, its fairly new and so clean, inside and out!! They offer both general dentistry and Orthodontics, how convenient!! The staff is so kind and helpful, they have amazing financing options like payment plans and carecredit. I will definitely be recommending this place to my friends and family. Also they are now accepting medicaid and all PPO insurances, I feel really welcomed here, the second I walked in, they all greeted me with an amazing smile.
