About Smiling Kidds Dentistry

Smiling Kidds Dentistry is a dental practice on Dupont Avenue in the San Jose area of Jacksonville, Florida. Pediatric dental care is built around treating children specifically — dentists with additional training in child development and behaviour management, and offices designed to make a first visit unintimidating. Guidance generally points to a child's first dental visit around age one or within six months of the first tooth.

Digital X-rays are a routine part of dental care because they show what a visual exam alone cannot — decay forming between teeth, bone loss below the gumline, and how developing adult teeth are positioned in children. They use a low radiation dose and are taken on a schedule matched to individual risk rather than at every single visit.

Left untreated, small dental problems tend not to stay small. A minor cavity that would have been a straightforward filling can progress to needing root canal treatment and a crown, and early gum inflammation that would have reversed with a good cleaning can progress toward bone loss around the teeth. Catching things early is generally the difference in both effort and cost.

Continuity matters in dental care — seeing the same practice over time means your history, X-rays, and any patterns in your oral health are already on file, rather than starting from scratch at each visit. That familiarity is part of what a regular dental home offers beyond any single appointment.

Dental anxiety is common, and most practices are used to working with nervous patients — through clear explanations of what is about to happen, a slower pace where needed, and sedation options for patients who want them. Avoiding the dentist out of anxiety tends to make eventual treatment more involved, not less.

Children benefit from starting dental visits early, generally by their first birthday or within six months of the first tooth coming through, mainly so they become familiar with the setting before any treatment is actually needed. Establishing that routine early tends to make ongoing checkups far less stressful for both child and parent. This page has the practice's contact details and full service list. What does a paediatric dentist do differently?
They complete additional training focused on children — how teeth develop, how to manage anxiety and behaviour in the chair, and conditions specific to young patients. The practical difference is usually as much about handling the visit as the treatment itself.
When do children start losing baby teeth?
Usually from around age six, continuing until roughly age twelve, though the timing varies widely between children. Adult molars also come through at the back around age six without any baby tooth falling out first.
Why do dentists take X-rays?
Decay between teeth and problems below the gumline are invisible to the naked eye, so X-rays are what reveal them. Modern digital images use a low dose and are taken only when clinically justified.

Shadana was wonderful with my 4-year-old during his dental cleaning. He usually doesn’t let anyone touch him, but she was incredibly patient, kind, and made him feel comfortable throughout the entire visit. She did an amazing job with the cleaning and was so gentle. She is truly wonderful with kids, and I highly recommend her to any parent looking for a caring and kid-friendly dental hygienist!

I took my daughters here for the first time today and I was blown away! Everyone in the office was so kind and patient. I have a daughter on the autism spectrum and the dental hygienist took her time explaining everything she was doing which really means a lot to us. The Dentist was so awesome as well! I highly recommend this office! Big thank you to everyone who made our experience so easy and pleasant we really appreciate you!

We love Smiling Kidds! Particularly Dr. Gabler and Miss Sherry! My daughter has special needs, and the dentist can be scary. But this office puts her at ease and helps us have a good experience! The tokens for the toy machine at the end is magical, too!

I just had to leave a review after taking my kids in, because this experience honestly meant so much to me. The dental assistant who cleaned my kids’ teeth, Gleivys (Glevys?) was absolutely amazing. From the moment we sat down, she made sure my kids felt comfortable and safe. She put on music and cartoons for them, explained every single step she was doing, and constantly checked in to make sure they were okay. You can tell she genuinely cares. My 2-year-old was really scared at first (it was his first appointment), but after watching how gentle and patient she was with my 4-year-old during the cleaning and x-rays, he completely calmed down. That alone says everything. We were also in and out quickly, which is a huge plus with little kids. I’m so thankful for this clinic, the dentist, and especially Gladys(Gleivys ?) This was such a positive experience for our family, and I truly appreciate the kindness and patience shown to my kids.
