About South Texas Smiles
South Texas Smiles operates on Huebner Road in the Northwest Side area of San Antonio, Texas. Sedation dentistry uses inhaled, oral, or intravenous options to help patients relax through treatment, ranging from nitrous oxide for mild anxiety through to deeper sedation for longer or more involved procedures. It is commonly used for patients who have avoided the dentist for years due to fear.
A professional cleaning removes the plaque and hardened tartar that brushing and flossing cannot reach, particularly along the gumline, and is the core of routine preventive care. Most people benefit from a cleaning roughly every six months, more often for those managing gum disease.
Affordable care means the practice sets out to make treatment accessible on a self-pay basis or through a payment arrangement, rather than assuming every patient arrives with comprehensive insurance. It is worth asking directly what options exist before assuming a needed treatment is out of reach.
General dentistry covers the routine and restorative care most people need most often — examinations, cleanings, fillings, and preventive checks that catch problems while they are still small and inexpensive to treat. Regular attendance, roughly every six months for most patients, is what makes that early-catch approach actually work.
Routine attendance, roughly every six months for most people, is what actually keeps small problems small. A lot of decay and gum disease develops without any pain in its early stages, which is why regular checkups matter even when nothing seems to be wrong, rather than only booking an appointment once something hurts.
A first appointment at a new practice typically covers a full examination, a review of your dental and medical history, and a professional cleaning, with X-rays if you do not have recent ones. It is also a reasonable time to raise any longer-term concerns, cosmetic or otherwise, so they can be factored into a plan going forward. Thought this could be my dental place in San Antonio to support a private practice, but like any business still money-centered. I was coming for cleanings and fillings, and my recent and last visit with them the dentist accidentally chipped one of my teeth. They gave me a discount for the Curadon procedure, but later I got a statement from for another $100+ charge because “my cleaning wasn’t covered.” If this was more patient centric practice I would gladly come back, but to chip one of my teeth and charge me more on top of what I already paid out of pocket was absurd to me. The dentist herself was yapping away while doing my sealants with her assistant. Just seemed like poor negligence overall. It was going well at first, but my outcome was very disappointing. Did not like the way they handled the situation and won’t be returning.
Had a 3 tooth bridge made and placed (2nd fitting ) was a charm. Everyone is so awesome.
Great care, very personalized and efficient even in this day and age.
All of the staff and Dr. Maldonado were absolutely WONDERFUL dealing with my mom and her dental concerns. I highly recommend this practice and am thrilled to have found a great dentist! I now am a patient, too, and am just as pleased as I was with how they treated Mom! Shelly is a FANTASTIC dental hygienist!
Shelly showed me how to floss better once she added fillings. She shows genuine concern for my health every time I have an appointment with her.
The staff was very caring and knowledgeable in my concerns and needs. They have the best patient bed side manner and compassion for my issues and concerns! Dr Maldonado was very sweet and empathetic with my situation and was just absolutely amazing with her compassion and bed side manner.. Loved them..
Amazing experience, I was so anxious going to my dental appointment that my blood pressure was to the roof. The Dentist came in and gave me the anesthesia injections and I didn't feel a thing. She removed my tooth in about 15 minutes including stitches. I never felted any discomfort and she was very comforting and very efficient. This was one of my best experience seeing a dentist. I'm so happy that I changed dental office and I highly recommend her and this dental office.
Team cleaning teeth have been great, thus a 2 vs 1 rating. However, doctors are constantly changing, I have had 3 in less than 2 years. Latest issue is a filling done one year ago by Texas Smiles appears to have a cavity that looks exactly like it did before the filling. I have both before and after X-Rays. New doctor will not comment other than she now thinks a crown is needed! Not impressed, will be changing dentists ASAP.
Dr. Ana Maldonado is an exceptional dentist—caring, knowledgeable, and truly dedicated to her patients. She takes the time to explain everything clearly and always makes you feel comfortable and well cared for. Her staff is equally wonderful: friendly, professional, and very accommodating with scheduling and patient needs. I highly recommend Dr. Maldonado and her team!
Dr. Maldonado is the best dentist! And Gracie was my dental hygienist this time & cleaned my teeth. She was patient, kind and did an amazing job. Thank you!
I had an extremely pleasant experience at South Texas Smiles from start to finish! The front desk staff were so welcoming and efficient, and the hygienist was incredibly kind, gentle, and thorough. My dentist was fantastic—very professional, attentive, and made me feel completely at ease. Everyone I interacted with was friendly, helpful, and genuinely caring. I’ve always had a bit of anxiety about dental visits, but after coming here, that anxiety is completely gone! I truly appreciate the warm atmosphere and excellent care. Thank you, South Texas Smiles! Highly recommended!
