About South Valley Children's Dentistry & Orthodontics
South Valley Children’s Dentistry & Orthodontics is a specialty practice located at 3510 Coors Blvd SW in the South Valley area of Albuquerque, New Mexico. The practice serves children, adolescents, and families in the 87121 zip code and the surrounding southwest Albuquerque communities along the Coors Blvd SW corridor.
Orthodontic treatment is the primary service focus at this location, addressing misaligned teeth, crowded dentition, bite irregularities, and jaw development concerns in young patients. An orthodontic consultation typically includes clinical examination, X-rays, and photographs to evaluate the bite and position of teeth before a treatment plan is developed. Treatment may include traditional metal or ceramic braces, or clear aligner systems depending on the patient’s age and case complexity.
Children’s dentistry complements the orthodontic service, providing a familiar setting for young patients to receive routine preventive care alongside any ongoing orthodontic treatment. Pediatric-oriented practices use behavioral approaches and a child-appropriate environment to make dental visits less stressful for younger patients who may have limited prior dental experience.
Access to orthodontic care in the South Valley and southwest Albuquerque area is important for families in these communities who might otherwise need to travel to more central parts of the city for specialty dental treatment. Having a children’s and orthodontic practice serving the 87121 zip code reduces that barrier for families in the Isleta, Rio Bravo, and Atrisco neighborhoods.
The Coors Blvd SW location serves a broad section of southwest and South Valley Albuquerque. Coors Blvd is a primary north-south arterial on the west side and is easily reached from surrounding residential neighborhoods. Office hours are listed on this page and parking is available on site.
Families scheduling an orthodontic consultation for their child can expect a full evaluation and a discussion of treatment options before any active treatment begins. Written cost estimates should be requested before committing to a treatment sequence. To schedule, use the contact information provided on this page.
Parents considering orthodontic treatment for a child in the South Valley area should schedule a consultation to discuss the optimal timing for beginning treatment. The American Association of Orthodontists recommends an evaluation by age 7, though active treatment often does not begin until later. An early consultation allows the provider to monitor development and identify the appropriate window for treatment to achieve the best outcome.

I love this dentist! They are the best!!!
Very disappointed with my son’s last appointment!!! At check in I was ignored by front staff who not to mention had air pods plugged in. While waiting to get called back I noticed floors were disgusting but nurses were so very kind on the dentist side. The wait to see DOC was ridiculous! DOC LADY came in very rude and unprofessional touching her hair with gloves then proceeds to check my son’s mouth. Same day braces appointment was offered and scheduled and that’s when my appointment went from zero to even more negative. I would not consider those nurses, they run around building talking loud about other patients. Very disappointed with this office , I will let everyone I know to not consider this place!
my kids have been coming here and love it.they are toddlers so it can be hard. staff is always polite and attentive to there needs
Unfortunately, my experience with the front desk staff has been disappointing. The young woman who sits by the main entrance to the office is often rude and does not seem interested in providing good customer service. We have also experienced multiple scheduling issues, including appointments being entered incorrectly, which resulted in having to return for additional appointments. Mistakes can happen, but the repeated errors and lack of professionalism have been frustrating. I feel that she does not genuinely care about customers or their experience. I hope management addresses these concerns, as they significantly impact the overall quality of service provided by the office.
Poor customer service. Unorganized from the moment we arrived. Insurance verification wasn’t completed. Doesn’t accept double coverage. After waiting for 30 minutes passed the appointment time. My child’s cleaning and dentist exam was a total of 15 minutes. I do not recommend this office! Also no longer locally owned. Poor practice.
It was my daughter’s very first appointment and they were all very nice and friendly to her! Very informative and professional, office was clean and they had a TV for children :)
My daughter got a filling and is very claustrophobic and has anxiety I told the dentist and she didn’t seem to care at all at first she was a Middle Ages white lady . She was rushing through things talking aovere and my daughter then I told her she was scared to please be a little patient and slow down the hygienist in there was a young Hispanic girl and she was so sweet and patient with us and explained the tools and the whole process to my daughter . Then when the dentist came back in after leaving for a few minutes she totally changed her attitude and was so patient and everything with us . I wish it started that way but I’m glad she changed how she was being
Unprofessional and they didn’t have nitrous gas. I was not told until we were in the procedure room. I used to like this facility but over time they have lost all their customer service and professionalism around children.
When my children first began visiting a dentist, we started with South Valley and loved them! We moved across town and chose a closer office to our home. They were terrible. We would have to wait a MINIMUM of 45 minutes AFTER our appointment time even if we arrived 15 min before our actual appointment. We tried another office and It was thee WORST experience! No customer service, very rude, didn’t interact much with anyone coming thru their doors. The front desk staff was rude. My main concern was how rude and rough the dentist was on my children. So much so that I decided to cancel our appointment with them, half way thru the appointment. Any time I’d mention a dentist visit after that, they’d cry and become afraid due to how rough and rude the dentist was . My little ones have never been afraid of the dentist until after that appointment. We were way over due for an appointment because we were hesitant to see the dentist after that experience. I decided to come back to South Valley. We arrived about 5 minutes before our appointment, checked in, with the front desk staff who were great and greeted us with smiles. She sent me the information I needed to fill out via text rather than having to do it on paper which I absolutely love being an “ecofreak”. As we were about to sit down to wait, they had already called us back! Wow. Very impressed. We loved their great customer service, they’re gentleness on my little ones during the process and they actually communicate and interact with both children and parents. Their office is nice and welcoming. Dr Chavez is gentle, friendly , and interactive, always smiling, hands down in our experience thee best dentist and will be our dentist until they out grow his office, regardless of how far we have to travel! Edited to add my son’s seal of approval: My son was practicing his calligraphy in his notebook while he waited. He says his favorite part was when Dr Chavez joined in and wrote in his notebook also. It’s the little things like this that make a regular check up memorable and a great experience. After our visit, my little ones were quite relieved and excited about the dentist once again. They asked why the other dentist visits weren’t the same. I responded, “not all dentist are created equal.” Thank you so much Dr Chavez and staff! We appreciate you and all your hard work! 🫶 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
