About Southern Roots Periodontics: Implant and Laser Dentistry
Suite B at 2120 North Beltline Boulevard sits on the stretch of Beltline between Forest Drive and Two Notch, central enough to be a short drive from most of east Columbia. Southern Roots Periodontics is a single-specialist practice, and Dr. Matthew Rowe runs it that way on purpose: he calls new patients himself before their appointment and again after treatment. The practice describes its standard as uncompromising honesty, which in a surgical specialty mostly means telling people when a tooth is not worth saving.
Implant work here leans on platelet-rich fibrin, and the mechanism is worth understanding before you consent to it. A small sample of your own blood is drawn and spun in a centrifuge until the platelets and fibrin separate out as a soft, gel-like membrane. Packed into an extraction socket or laid over a graft, that membrane forms a scaffold the body already recognizes, and it slowly releases the growth factors that recruit bone- and tissue-forming cells. It is not a substitute for graft material, but it tends to make the healing phase more predictable, and because it comes from you it adds no compatibility risk. Implant placement, restoration, removal of failed implants, ridge augmentation and sinus lifts all sit inside this framework.
Laser periodontal surgery covers the gum side, treating pockets with light rather than a blade where the case allows, alongside scaling and root planing, osseous surgery, crown lengthening, tissue grafting, localized antibiotic placement and structured maintenance. Two less usual services round out the practice: release of tongue-tie and lip-tie, done with the laser, which can matter for infant feeding and later for speech and airway, and management of sleep apnea. IV and oral sedation are both offered, which broadens who can realistically sit through a longer surgical appointment.
A practical detail worth planning around. The office opens at seven in the morning Monday through Thursday and closes at two, with a short Friday. That early start is a gift if you want surgery finished before a work day begins, and genuinely awkward if afternoons are the only time you can get away.

The dentist and hygienist were excellent. Friendly and made sure I was comfortable throughout the cleaning and exam.
Dr. Rowe and his office staff were kind, friendly, and very helpful when my son had a molar that was chipped. They made him feel at ease and talked him through each step so he wasn't nervous. We will recommend this practice to others and continue to utilize their services when needed.
Great job to the entire staff and to the team members that cure my Gagging reflex with a pinch of salt .
Dr. Rowe was very kind, polite, and took the time to thoroughly address all of my concerns. The entire staff was friendly, welcoming, and knowledgeable, making the whole experience a positive one. I highly recommend this practice.
Thank you, Dr. Rowe and team! From scheduling and communication pre-appointment to preparation through educational videos, and then from the evaluation itself as well as the tie release procedure and post-op support, our experience of care for our little 7-week old was excellent! We were so grateful for how professional, skilled, knowledgeable, compassionate, kind, and patient Dr. Rowe, the dental assistant, the lactation specialist, the cranial sacral therapist, and the support staff were with our son and with us, his parents. The appointment itself was very smooth and we are thankful that the evaluation, additional education, and procedure were done within 1.5 hours during the same visit. We traveled 3 hours for treatment at Southern Roots, per recommendation from our speech therapist, and it was definitely worth it. Highly recommend this practice for treatment of tongue, lip, and buccal ties for infants.
I enjoyed Dr. Rowe. He certainly explains issues fully. I listened to his prognosis and I had no decision to make. Few doctors are as plain spoken. That is vital to me. Trust is very easy with Dr. Rowe.
Dr. Rowe and staff have superb bed-side manner and expert consultation on procedural steps and ways forward on my dental care. I was referred to them through my healthcare network and until my appointment with them, I was in the dark about my ongoing dental issues. Dr. Rowe and staff were warm, friendly, and explained what all they need to do to bring my oral care back to 100% in a way that was both inclusive, and interactive. They take a holistic approach and even recommend other doctors that are experts in their own field of practice, to ensure you get the best care. If you need periodontal care, I highly recommend this team, and I will entrust them with my family's dental care going forward. From a simple cleaning, to something more complicated, you all have my stamp of approval! Thank you guys, and I look forward to our continued work together!
