About Southwest Oral Surgery

Based on West Thunderbird Road in the Sweetwater Estates area of Glendale, Arizona, Southwest Oral Surgery is a dental practice serving the area. Wisdom teeth are removed when they are impacted, repeatedly infected, decayed, or damaging the tooth in front, since they arrive last and often into a jaw with no room left. Not every wisdom tooth needs to come out — one that erupts cleanly and can be kept clean is often left alone.

Sedation dentistry uses inhaled, oral, or intravenous options to help patients relax through treatment, ranging from nitrous oxide for mild anxiety through to deeper sedation for longer or more involved procedures. It is commonly used for patients who have avoided the dentist for years due to fear.

A first appointment at a new practice typically covers a full examination, a review of your dental and medical history, and a professional cleaning, with X-rays if you do not have recent ones. It is also a reasonable time to raise any longer-term concerns, cosmetic or otherwise, so they can be factored into a plan going forward.

Day-to-day oral health still comes down to the basics between visits — brushing twice daily with fluoride toothpaste, cleaning between the teeth, and limiting how often sugary food and drink appear through the day matters more than the total amount eaten at once. Regular professional care is what catches whatever those habits do not.

Digital X-rays are a routine part of dental care because they show what a visual exam alone cannot — decay forming between teeth, bone loss below the gumline, and how developing adult teeth are positioned in children. They use a low radiation dose and are taken on a schedule matched to individual risk rather than at every single visit.

Left untreated, small dental problems tend not to stay small. A minor cavity that would have been a straightforward filling can progress to needing root canal treatment and a crown, and early gum inflammation that would have reversed with a good cleaning can progress toward bone loss around the teeth. Catching things early is generally the difference in both effort and cost. This page has the practice's contact details and full service list. What services does Southwest Oral Surgery offer?

Will I be unconscious under dental sedation?
Usually not. Most dental sedation leaves you conscious but deeply relaxed, often with little memory of the procedure afterward. General anaesthesia, where you are fully unconscious, is reserved for specific circumstances.
Is sedation dentistry safe?
It is considered safe when properly assessed and monitored, which is why your medical history and current medications matter beforehand. Being open about those is the main thing that keeps it safe.
What age is best to have wisdom teeth taken out?
Late teens to early twenties is often easier, because the roots are less fully formed and bone is more forgiving, so healing tends to be quicker. Removal is still routinely done later when there is a reason for it.

Got a 3pm scheduled, had all the paper work done online. Got there at 0245, we waited until 4pm and had to leave, this place does not value your time. If you can't handle your schedule time you should not schedule patient because we could have went somewhere.

Dr.Trippel was FANTASTIC! As someone with horrible dental anxiety, I was amazed at how smoothly my procedure went thanks to his skill and calming presence. He explains everything throughly. Everyone that helped him was so sweet to me as well. Great office. Great team. He even followed up personally afterward, showing how much he truly cares. Truly happy with my experience!

Just recently visited Southwest Oral Surgery to have a cracked tooth extracted and start of implant replacement. Dr Trippel was my surgeon and explained everything that would be done prior to the procedure. It went very well and was pleased with the Dr and assistants through out the procedure. The office staff was also very helpful, Irene was a real pleasure to deal with.

We had such a wonderful experience with Dr. Buch and his entire team during my daughter’s wisdom teeth removal and biopsy. From start to finish, everyone was professional, caring, and incredibly reassuring during what could have been a very stressful day for her. A very special shout out to the assistant who escorted my daughter to the car afterward — she was so sweet, patient, and genuinely caring. She made my daughter feel so comfortable and taken care of, and that kindness meant more than you know. Thank you all for making this experience such a positive one. We truly appreciate the compassion and excellent care!

Dr. DeFelice was amazing! I went previously in February & we couldn’t extract my wisdom teeth because my BP was extremely high… he had me work with my PCP. I am happy he called out what my PCP continued to deny & I was able to return today to get my wisdom teeth pulled. It was the fastest thing I ever experienced & the whole crew was amazing. They all kept me laughing & kept me calm during the process. I would recommend them a million times over

Irma at the front desk Was great keeping me informed about my appointment and paperwork. Mikayla Dr. Buch’s Assistant was amazing. I had a high level of anxiety and she made everything so much easier. She was very sweet and we had great conversation easing my anxiety.Dr Buch was great Letting me know what he was doing along the way and asking if there was any discomfort. I’ve had very little pain after the surgery. And the healing process has already started. I’m glad I chose Southwest.
