About Star Dental Institute
Star Dental Institute provides dental care on Star Ranch Road in Colorado Springs, Colorado. At the core of a general dental practice is preventive and restorative care: checkups, professional cleanings, fillings, and screening for decay and gum disease before either becomes a bigger problem. It is the kind of appointment most people need on a routine schedule rather than only when something hurts.
Payment and insurance arrangements vary by practice and by treatment, so it is worth asking directly what is covered and what options exist for anything that is not, rather than assuming either way. Getting that clarified before treatment starts avoids surprises once it is underway.
Beyond any single treatment, most dental visits start with an examination — checking for decay, reviewing the gums, and looking at existing fillings or crowns — often alongside X-rays where there is a reason to look between or beneath teeth. That groundwork is what a dentist uses to explain any findings and set out next steps before you leave.
Routine attendance, roughly every six months for most people, is what actually keeps small problems small. A lot of decay and gum disease develops without any pain in its early stages, which is why regular checkups matter even when nothing seems to be wrong, rather than only booking an appointment once something hurts.
A first appointment at a new practice typically covers a full examination, a review of your dental and medical history, and a professional cleaning, with X-rays if you do not have recent ones. It is also a reasonable time to raise any longer-term concerns, cosmetic or otherwise, so they can be factored into a plan going forward.
Day-to-day oral health still comes down to the basics between visits — brushing twice daily with fluoride toothpaste, cleaning between the teeth, and limiting how often sugary food and drink appear through the day matters more than the total amount eaten at once. Regular professional care is what catches whatever those habits do not. TLDR: shoddy work, improper care, and failed fillings. I went into this dental office for a basic check up in early 2025. following this check up i got scheduled for one filling to take place the week after. when going in for the filling, immediately they told me that upon further inspection i was needing 4 fillings, all in the top molar rows. (not a big deal, I'm sure this was honest) i decided to go through with all 4 that day as they said they had time for it. 2.5 hours later and 3 different dentists/assistants later all 4 were filled. the process of getting them filled was long drawn out and at one point the lady doing my filling called in a different dentist because half way through she decided she didn't have the experience to continue. for a first experience with fillings this was jarring. i didnt expect it to take so long and to have people inexperienced working in my mouth. after about a month i was noticing that i still had pain in my molars and it impacted my eating and cleaning. i had a different dentist check them out and he said the clearance looked fine and it was most likely a loose or improperly fitted filling, now a year later 2 out of the 4 fillings have fully fallen out and thankfully i have gotten them fixed elsewhere on emergency appointments with no issues. needless to say, i would never recommend this office for anything other than basic cleanings. edit: after going to my new dentist to get the second filling re done, they found a third that had also fallen out without my knowledge. so thats 3/4 fillings that failed within a year. with all this being said i still have family that uses star dental with no issues. i just had a poor experience myself. edit 2: all 4 fillings have fallen out within a year or so. do not come here.
Dr Moore(I believe is his name, he has dark hair) solved the problem I was having. I couldn't eat and was terrified of the extraction but he took it out and now it's almost completely healed. Doctors like him who solve your problem give so much hope about the healthcare system.
Well, I visit them for the first time last year. I hadn’t been to the dentist in a while due to insurance purposes. They said I had a total of 9 cavities to fill. They asked me if any teeth were bothering me and I told them no, this was before the filling they did….im a little upset and not pleased with their work. I have had cavities filled numerous times and never experience anything like what I’m experiencing now. Tooth sensitivity to cold and hot things. I tried to wait it out to see if time would maybe fix the problem but nope it’s been almost 6-7 months since I got this cavities filled and well my teeth are so sensitive. I have gotten numerous cavities filled at once and never have I ever went through this. I’m tried of explaining what’s wrong and it’s like no one is listening to me. But if I didn’t have any pain before they touched my mouth why all of sudden I can’t stand cold and hot things. Make it makes sense.
Let’s start off with how unprofessional these so-called dental hygienist are going up in people’s mouth and when I say people I’m talking about all ages, especially my teenage daughter’s mouth, flirting with each other, talking all kinds of nonsense, messing her mouth up to a point to where I had to go to another dentist because they fused her teeth together when doing fillings I found her a new dentist and kept them as mine after some time decided to call them and have them start the process of finishing my teeth they were supposed to have set an appointment two weeks ago for a yearly and get with me after insurance got with them I gave them time I gave them two weeks I called them this morning and they have no record of me even calling the first time so somebody didn’t do their job and the lady on the phone had an attitude instead of being helpful or explaining or taking a responsibility for the teams mistake and proceeded to say that I can get my file released and take it somewhere else that’s how much they want business
My experience here was extremely concerning. I don't ever leave reviews so long after an experience, however the filling I had done here has since failed and caused significant damage to my tooth. During a visit in October 2023, I was numbed for a filling and then left sitting in the chair long enough that the staff had to numb me a second time because they had forgotten about me. When someone finally returned, the procedure was rushed and felt careless. The most alarming part was the quality of the work itself. The filling was not completed properly and there was still a visible hole and decay left around the tooth when I left the office. I called less than a week later to ask if they would correct it, but I was told I would have to pay again to have their own work fixed. The filling has now failed completely, and there is significant decay behind where the filling was placed. I am now having to pay out of pocket to have the tooth properly repaired because the work was never done correctly in the first place. This is also one of my front teeth, so the failed filling and decay now affect the appearance of my smile as well as my dental health. Being forgotten mid-procedure and leaving with a partially filled tooth is unacceptable, and even more so given the fact they refused to correct it. After this experience, I would never allow this office to perform dental work for me again and I would strongly recommend looking elsewhere for dental care.
I have really bad teeth, and from the moment I walked in, they were incredibly helpful. They took the time to explain everything to me without judging or making me feel worse than I already did. The entire staff was super kind, patient, and friendly. Especially the one doing the x-rays. They went over all of my options clearly and never pressured me into choosing one path over another, which I truly appreciated. I’m currently waiting for their call to get the work started, and I’m actually excited about it—which says a lot. If you need dental work done and want a place that treats you with respect and compassion, I highly recommend this office.
Well i had all of my top teeth pulled and an upper denture fitted. All seems to be going well as I've heard horror stories about people getting them. Sure it going to hurt and be sore. The staff is great and very caring I've only been there 4 times but everytime treated very well. My nurse she seems to be able amazing person she has answered every dumb question I have ask very caring dental office who don't shame you for not having gone to the dentist. Keep up the great work.
I had such a great experience here! I was having super bad tooth pain over the weekend and they were able to get me in first thing Monday morning and help take care of the issue. Everyone was super nice and you could tell everyone knew what they were doing, but not in a snarky way. I would definitely recommend this place to any of my friends or family!
