About Stieg & Wachtel Orthodontics

Stieg & Wachtel Orthodontics operates on East 2nd Street in the South Scottsdale area of Scottsdale, Arizona. Traditional braces use brackets and wires to gradually move teeth into alignment, handling complex bite corrections and significant crowding more predictably than removable alternatives. Treatment commonly runs one to three years, with a retainer worn afterward to hold the result.

Orthodontic treatment straightens teeth and corrects bite problems using braces, clear aligners, or similar appliances over a period that commonly runs from about a year to several years depending on the case. It is offered to both children, where early evaluation can catch developing issues, and adults at any age.

Payment and insurance arrangements vary by practice and by treatment, so it is worth asking directly what is covered and what options exist for anything that is not, rather than assuming either way. Getting that clarified before treatment starts avoids surprises once it is underway.

Beyond any single treatment, most dental visits start with an examination — checking for decay, reviewing the gums, and looking at existing fillings or crowns — often alongside X-rays where there is a reason to look between or beneath teeth. That groundwork is what a dentist uses to explain any findings and set out next steps before you leave.

Routine attendance, roughly every six months for most people, is what actually keeps small problems small. A lot of decay and gum disease develops without any pain in its early stages, which is why regular checkups matter even when nothing seems to be wrong, rather than only booking an appointment once something hurts.

A first appointment at a new practice typically covers a full examination, a review of your dental and medical history, and a professional cleaning, with X-rays if you do not have recent ones. It is also a reasonable time to raise any longer-term concerns, cosmetic or otherwise, so they can be factored into a plan going forward. You can reach Stieg & Wachtel Orthodontics through this page to ask a question, check current availability, or request an appointment.

An orthodontist has completed additional years of specialist training focused specifically on tooth movement and bite correction, beyond the general dental degree. Some general dentists also offer braces or aligners after extra training.
How do I know if I need orthodontic treatment?
Visible crowding or gaps are the obvious signs, but bite problems — teeth not meeting correctly, jaw discomfort, or uneven wear — are just as common a reason, and those are best assessed in person.

Dr. Stieg and the entire team at the old town location are so kind, friendly, and professional. I had a bad experience with another local orthodontist in the past and was wary about starting again, but Dr. Stieg was so patient and kind. He recommended a few options, and I went with Invisalign. He was upfront and honest about how the experience would be, which I really appreciate. He has a lot of experience in orthodontics, but I really appreciate how he has worked to stay up to date on all the latest technology, it really feels like a luxury experience. I’ve recommended him to many friends, and would say to anyone considering, just make a free consultation appointment to meet him and see for yourself.

If you’re searching for an orthodontist, this is your sign to end that search. Dr Stieg is the man. I had a small gap re-open between my front teeth and he was able to perfectly correct it in one visit. Not only that but he and his staff are top notch people! 100% recommend.

First, Dr. Stieg is a professional with decades of experience and this was best orthodontic experience I've ever had. When I first stepped into the office, I had maxillary hypoplasia (receded upper jaw) and malocclusion, which required an orthognathic surgery and corrective braces. Dr. Stieg started treatment with putting me in braces and adjusting them every 4 weeks. I started seeing improvement immediately. When the time came for my surgery, he even set up a meeting between him, myself, and my surgeon, Dr. Gregory Sabol, where we discussed the surgery, post-op treatment, and my expectations. He removed my braces after almost 2 years and 4 months and I'm more than satisfied with the result. I would like to especially compliment his openness to suggestions that he never dismissed on the sole basis that he is a doctor and he knows his job better than I do. The whole treatment felt more like a collaboration, with me being an active participant. Dr. Stieg also has a great and outgoing personality and coming to the office to adjust my braces was always a positive experience. He clearly enjoys his job. I also couldn't help but notice that he is highly respected by his assistants and staff. The relationship between them was more similar to a family than a business. On one hand, I was glad to finally get rid of braces, but part of me is going to miss monthly check-ups in his office. To anyone reading this who is looking for an orthodontist - take this opportunity and go to his office while he is still practicing.

Was referred here by my dentist for some possible follow up orthodontic work. Every visit the staff was friendly and did a great job of explaining things. Ultimately the orthodontist recommended against pursuing further treatment since the odds of seeing an improvement weren't very high. I really appreciated being given that honest opinion up front rather than spending time and money on a treatment that was unlikely to be worth it. Would totally recommend coming here if you're looking for an honest orthodontist with great staff.

Hands down the best orthodontic Practice ever! In 2015 I decided to invest in Invisalign and it was the greatest decision of my life! Dr. Stieg and Dr. Wachtel are not only talented but kind, patient, thoughtful, and just down right amazing physicians!! I was in a military family and have seen many orthodontic specialists over the last 20 years but have yet to find a staff as caring, office locations more clean, and truly have not had a more pleasant experience getting dental work done. I have 2 young children and travel for my job, never once did I have an issue with scheduling or with the offices accommodating my needs (and they love babies)! I can't thank them enough for all they've done for me over the last 3 years!!! I wish I could give 10 stars!
