About Stratford Dental

Ontario Street carries most of Stratford's through traffic east toward Highway 7/8, and by the time the numbers reach 3035 you are past the plazas and close to the edge of town. Stratford Dental sits out here rather than in the Victorian core, which means a parking lot instead of a hunt for a metered spot near Market Square, and an easy pull-in if you are driving from Shakespeare, Tavistock, St. Marys or the surrounding concessions. It is a general and cosmetic family practice led by Dr. Mark Straus, covering the full arc of routine care alongside restorative work.

What this office is most deliberately set up for is treating people who dread the chair. Sedation dentistry here is not simply freezing plus reassurance. You are given medication that lowers your awareness of the appointment while you continue breathing on your own and can still respond when spoken to, and most patients remember very little of it afterwards. That is the point: a long restorative visit that would otherwise be split across three anxious appointments can often be consolidated into one sitting. Practical consequences follow. You will not be leaving under your own steam, so a driver has to be organised in advance; your medications and health history are gone over in far more detail than a routine visit calls for; and the slot itself is blocked out longer than the dentistry alone would need.

Beyond that the range is broad - implants, bridges, dentures, extractions including wisdom teeth, root canal treatment, whitening, veneers and bonding, plus night guards for grinders and custom sports guards. Implant cost is the question that comes up most, and it genuinely cannot be answered over the phone: the figure depends on how much bone is present, whether grafting is needed first, and what restoration goes on top.

Hours favour early risers. Doors open at 8 a.m. Monday through Thursday and close at 5 p.m., with Friday running mornings only until noon, and there are no evening or weekend appointments. Shift workers and Kitchener-Waterloo commuters should check the schedule before committing. If dental anxiety is the reason you have avoided being seen for years, this is the Stratford practice built around that specific problem.

A general and cosmetic practice at the far east end of Ontario Street, with a parking lot at the door and an 8 a.m. weekday start. Dr. Mark Straus and team cover exams, fillings, crowns, bridges, implants, dentures, extractions and root canals, and the office is set up for sedation so long or long-avoided treatment can be consolidated into a single sitting.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Stratford Dental easy to reach if I'm driving in from outside town?
It sits at 3035 Ontario Street, at the eastern edge of Stratford on the corridor that becomes Highway 7/8, so you arrive before hitting downtown traffic or the one-way streets around the core. There is a parking lot rather than metered street parking. That makes it straightforward coming from Shakespeare, Tavistock, St. Marys and the surrounding concession roads, and slightly out of the way if you are already downtown on foot.
What does sedation dentistry actually feel like?
You keep breathing on your own and can still respond if spoken to, but your awareness of the appointment drops sharply and most people recall very little of it afterwards. Freezing is still used; the sedation manages the anxiety, not the pain itself. Expect a detailed review of your medical history and current medications beforehand, instructions about not eating for a set period, and a requirement that someone else drives you home.
How much does a dental implant cost here?
No honest number can be quoted before an assessment. An implant is three separate components - the titanium post placed in bone, an abutment, and the crown on top - and the total shifts depending on whether a tooth must be extracted first, whether bone grafting or a sinus lift is needed, and how long healing takes between stages. Ask for a written plan itemising each stage rather than one figure over the phone.

I have been going to Dr.Straus since he began his practice, and have only had positive experiences! Dr. Straus and his staff provide excellent, professional and client focussed care. Just recently I have been having issues with sensitivity and pain. Dr.Straus did a thorough assessment to determine what needed to be done to fix the problem. Highly recommend!

Absolutely hands down the best dentist I have ever been to. From the moment you walk in you are greeted with bubbly personalities, clean waiting room and lots of natural lighting. The waiting area is clean, bright and clutter free. When going back to the rooms the hygienist always seems to know you as if they were your best friend they go the extra mile to ask about the entire family and make it a personalized enjoyable feeling. Once your hygienist is done Dr.Mark comes in and is always direct and to the point. He will address any question concerns and comments and give you the appropriate time needed to address them. Dr. Mark personally did a bunch of dental work on my daughter and he was nothing short of amazing with her. He supported her through being put under for her dental work and continues to support her dental journey today. Also when there was a billing error he personally acknowledged and hand wrote me a check for the error that he found (no one else would do this guarantee). I highly suggest Stratford Dental and their entire team, they accommodate children amazingly and also accommodate anxiety disorders as well

Dr. Straus and his team were exceptional. I had avoided a dental appointment for multiple years and had a lot of fear of going. However Dr. Straus and his hygienist Megan we’re amazing and walked me through every procedure step by step. So grateful to have a reassuring and easy experience. I will be returning with less fear! :)

The office is brand new and very nice. My daughter's first appointment was a great experience, for a shy 3yr old she had no problems with the staff who made it very kid friendly. She now asks to go back and see "Dr. Mark" and "Mr Thirsty" (the suction tool) Well done.
