About Stratman Family Dentistry

Stratman Family Dentistry operates on North Wilmot Road in the Thunderbird Heights/Wilmot Desert Estates area of Tucson, Arizona. Sedation dentistry uses inhaled, oral, or intravenous options to help patients relax through treatment, ranging from nitrous oxide for mild anxiety through to deeper sedation for longer or more involved procedures. It is commonly used for patients who have avoided the dentist for years due to fear.

Dental anxiety is common, and most practices are used to working with nervous patients — through clear explanations of what is about to happen, a slower pace where needed, and sedation options for patients who want them. Avoiding the dentist out of anxiety tends to make eventual treatment more involved, not less.

Children benefit from starting dental visits early, generally by their first birthday or within six months of the first tooth coming through, mainly so they become familiar with the setting before any treatment is actually needed. Establishing that routine early tends to make ongoing checkups far less stressful for both child and parent.

Payment and insurance arrangements vary by practice and by treatment, so it is worth asking directly what is covered and what options exist for anything that is not, rather than assuming either way. Getting that clarified before treatment starts avoids surprises once it is underway.

Beyond any single treatment, most dental visits start with an examination — checking for decay, reviewing the gums, and looking at existing fillings or crowns — often alongside X-rays where there is a reason to look between or beneath teeth. That groundwork is what a dentist uses to explain any findings and set out next steps before you leave.

Routine attendance, roughly every six months for most people, is what actually keeps small problems small. A lot of decay and gum disease develops without any pain in its early stages, which is why regular checkups matter even when nothing seems to be wrong, rather than only booking an appointment once something hurts. I went here several years ago to get some dental work done and had a great experience wrote a great review. Fast forward to April of this year. I needed a new crown, so I called and spoke with a woman who had a rude tone in her voice but i let that go, everyone has bad days... I asked her if they accept PPO plans (Anthem BCBS) and she said yes. I scheduled the appointment under the impression that they take my insurance, and that I would be reimbursed. I even had an extensive conversation with Randy about how the insurance would work, and the timeline of claim processing, etc. Never once let me know they were out of network, had I known that i would have gone with someone else that accepted my insurance. I got the services $1436.00 paid up front. I had called to follow up a couple times and Randy was helpful at first, but when the 6 week mark came and I needed answers and reimbursement from my insurance, they started acting shady, defensive, I got hung up on while on hold, and Randy actually told me I was not allowed to speak with the office manager!? I expressed how I felt they were being dishonest with how they handledmy situation, and even more so with the payment/and not being told outright they are not in network, meaning I would most likely eat the cost. They have zero system in place when sending claims. They send them by mail , no date sent, no record of when they sent it. All based off memory. Randy and Jennifer were not helpful at all, Randy continued to speak over me on the phone, was argumentative, and very unprofessional .Randy gave me every excuse in the book and the office manager Jennifer refusing to speak with me about the claim she sent out , even though Randy was talking to her in the office while i was on the phone with him is just offensive! I couldnt believe it!! I would 1000% never had made an appointment here knowing this is how they handle thier clients. Its an old office, rude staff, and sketchy operation in general. They are operating as if its 1996 in there. Told me it takes 30 minutes to send an email, moaned and scoffed at the difficulty of my request (an email with 1 document) refused to stay on the phone with me to verify I got the claim sent to me via email. Very, very disappointed. Go anywhere else. Seriously worst experience Ive ever had with a dentist office. The office staff are the ones to blame here. They completely ruined my view of thier practice.

I have been coming to Stratman Family Dentistry for about 5 years. Today I had a tooth pulled by Dr. Shakir and he did a great job he explained everything and the procedure went perfect. The dental assistant was excellent and very friendly, she made me feel very much at ease. As usual the staff was warm, friendly and professional. Stratman Family Dentistry is the best dental office in Tucson!! I highly recommend!

Very pleased with this Dentist practice as a whole! I have been to both offices and have nothing but good experiences. Dental work is not cheap and dental insurance is a joke. Yes things cost money, yes they want their money up front or at the time of service, the same any other business. It sucks that in “the richest country in the world” we get shafted with healthcare but unfortunately it is what it is. This dentist is great. Everyone I have dealt with has been extremely friendly. I have always been treated very well. If you need dental work o highly recommend you give Stratman a try.

It was my first time here as recommended to me. 3 words. AM-AZ-ING! I had a 5-star experience from the scheduling of appointments to the ambiance, the X-rays, and the dental exam! The price was great and the initial appointment only took 45 mins including my new patient paperwork. The staff was awesome! Much kudos to Yolanda, Dr. Stratman, and Adela! I was having a bit of a rough day, but going to the dentist brought my smile back! I can't wait to work on smiling more with this crew! ♥️🔥😁

This is my first visit to the Wilmot clinic, although I've been going to the clinic on Oracle for the almostst two years. For this visit, I had a new dental hygienist. I was very impressed with the care, attention to detail, and recommendations from both Jodi (the hygienist) and the doctor. The staff are very friendly and competent, which made the visit very enjoyable. Keep up the great work!
