About Sunnyslope Dental

Sunnyslope Dental provides dental care on Liberty Road South in the Faye Wright area of Salem, Oregon. Sedation dentistry uses inhaled, oral, or intravenous options to help patients relax through treatment, ranging from nitrous oxide for mild anxiety through to deeper sedation for longer or more involved procedures. It is commonly used for patients who have avoided the dentist for years due to fear.

Left untreated, small dental problems tend not to stay small. A minor cavity that would have been a straightforward filling can progress to needing root canal treatment and a crown, and early gum inflammation that would have reversed with a good cleaning can progress toward bone loss around the teeth. Catching things early is generally the difference in both effort and cost.

Continuity matters in dental care — seeing the same practice over time means your history, X-rays, and any patterns in your oral health are already on file, rather than starting from scratch at each visit. That familiarity is part of what a regular dental home offers beyond any single appointment.

Dental anxiety is common, and most practices are used to working with nervous patients — through clear explanations of what is about to happen, a slower pace where needed, and sedation options for patients who want them. Avoiding the dentist out of anxiety tends to make eventual treatment more involved, not less.

Children benefit from starting dental visits early, generally by their first birthday or within six months of the first tooth coming through, mainly so they become familiar with the setting before any treatment is actually needed. Establishing that routine early tends to make ongoing checkups far less stressful for both child and parent.

Payment and insurance arrangements vary by practice and by treatment, so it is worth asking directly what is covered and what options exist for anything that is not, rather than assuming either way. Getting that clarified before treatment starts avoids surprises once it is underway. Can sedation help with dental phobia?
It is one of the main reasons people use it. For patients who have avoided treatment for years, sedation often makes the first appointment possible, and some become more comfortable with routine care afterward.
What causes bad breath and can a dentist help?
Persistent bad breath most often comes from bacteria on the tongue and around the gumline, and gum disease is a frequent underlying cause. Because it is usually oral in origin, a dental examination is a sensible first step.

Dr. Coombs is hands down the Best Dentist in and around Salem Oregon and the staff is amazing, too. He has done surgical removal on 3 broken to the gum teeth over the years and I barely felt a thing. He has also done 3 implants and it is my understanding from other patients that he is the best dentist around for implants. Dr. Coombs did a lower bridge last year and it was a perfect fit with no adjustments. My all time favorite dental office!

Everyone in this office does an extraordinary job; they are so friendly and very good at what they do. I've always been exceedingly pleased with the work I've had done here and it's always a pleasant experience going into the office.

Dr. Coombs is an artist when it comes to repairing teeth! Also, he is one of the most professional, polite and cool people I know in Salem. His staff are awesome, too. I recommend them with sincere & appreciative accolades.

out of all of the dental offices i've been in through the years, this one is by far my favorite. everyone is so nice and kind, and most importantly for me as a chronically ill person who has a hard time taking care of their teeth- and feeling ashamed because of it- i was so relieved that none of my dentists or the assistants here felt like they were judging me. when i explained what i'd been through and why i haven't been able to keep up with my dental hygiene, i was treated with understanding and told to just do what i can, that anything is better than nothing- that sometimes medical issues just make it hard to take care of ourselves.. honestly, it made me tear up, because my teeth are upsetting to me, my dental hygiene makes me feel ashamed a lot of the time. so to be treated with such kindness, understanding, and respect, really just solidified this as my go to place for the foreseeable future. also, as a bonus, they give a helpful treatment plan paper with expenses to show what you owe so there are no surprises. thank you for being so kind and understanding, truly, they just want to help but won't judge you or make you feel bad for things that are out of your control.

Words can't express how grateful I am for the way I was treated there by everyone. And words can't express the relief I feel after getting my teeth fixed. I was surprised that we could afford it and I was certain that within the next few years I would no longer be able to eat solid food. But he fixed the teeth that I have left and I know they will last a long time and I'm not worried about losing the ability to chew food anymore!

My family and I have been patients for 3-5 years now. I love that you do not feel pressured to do certain treatment plans that cost a lot of money. I had a broken tooth that other dentists wanted to put a crown on and Dr. Coombs offered to do a filling with the information that it may not hold. I have had that same filling with no problems for the last 2-3 years. Would highly recommend this dentist group

Let me preface by saying, I am terrified of the dentist and have massive anxiety going to dentist offices for even so much as a cleaning. Wish I didn't, but it is what it is. Because of this, I usually look for dentist who can do an anesthetic procedure so I am not awake. Enter this magnificent office! I needed to have my first crown done, and this office was amazing in their patient care and helping keep me as relaxed as possible. They are very patient as well, because it turns out I became somewhat combative while under, and to ensure my safety they halted the procedure and scheduled me for another time. Since I couldn't go under they found a way to keep me awake but very relaxed to where I could get through the whole procedure. Dr. Coons did good work, and my crown has been working great ever since. The staff was courteous and professional the whole time. Glad to have found a nice office like this one.
