About Sweet Tooth Pediatric Dentistry
Sweet Tooth is a small, family-owned pediatric office led by Dr. Joshua Peyser, who is board certified in pediatric dentistry. The practical case for a specialist over a general practice that also sees children is more concrete than parents are usually told, and it starts with the teeth themselves. Primary teeth are not miniature adult teeth: the enamel and dentine layers are markedly thinner and the pulp chamber sits proportionally larger and nearer the surface. Decay that would still be a routine filling in an adult molar can already have reached the nerve in a five-year-old, which is why pulp therapy and preformed stainless crowns are everyday pediatric work and unusual in a general chair. It is also why a small cavity in a baby molar has less room to stay small.
The first visit is where most parents' questions land. The pediatric dental academies put that appointment at age one, or sooner if teeth arrived early, which lands well ahead of where most families assume it should. Very little of that visit is treatment. It is a lap exam, a look along the gumline for early decay, a fluoride varnish if it is warranted, and a real conversation about bottles, night feeding and how to brush a toddler who does not want to be brushed. Getting a child used to the room, the light and the chair at that age is most of the value, and it is considerably easier than introducing all of it during a first toothache at five.
Day-to-day care covers comprehensive exams, full-mouth digital x-rays, cleanings and hands-on hygiene coaching. Digital sensors deserve a word, because they need a small fraction of the radiation of the film systems parents remember, and the interval between sets is set by a child's decay risk rather than by the calendar.
The office is at 4921 Centre Pointe Drive, Suite 201, in the stretch of North Charleston near the Tanger Outlets and Charleston International Airport, close to where I-526 meets I-26. That is convenient for families around Ashley Phosphate, Ladson and the airport and Boeing employment corridor, and it is a genuine drive from downtown or Mount Pleasant. Hours run Monday through Wednesday, 8am to 4pm, and Thursday, 8am to 2pm, with no Friday or weekend availability. Everything therefore falls inside school hours, so plan around the school calendar rather than after the bell.

We had an amazing first dentist appointment at Sweet Tooth with Dr. Josh yesterday with our 2.5 year old daughter. They were so patient and fun and made it a really great first visit. Our daughter has white coat syndrome and freaks out when she's anyone with a mask, so them pulling down their masks to show their faces temporarily really helped her feel more comfortable. She allowed the hygienist to brush her teeth, floss them(for the first time!!), and allowed Dr. Josh to apply the fluoride varnish. She is so excited about her new Bluey toothbrush and I feel so much more comfortable taking her to a dentist that specializes in children's dentistry as she grows!
First experience there, was WONDERFULL. Staff was beyond friendly & they showered him with small gifts because my son was so nervous and scared. They took care of him & we’re so gentle & sweet
They are very welcoming, polite, and you leave with some nice parting favors as a new patient. The Dentist was very welcoming and described things so that I could easily understand the needs of my daughter. We have a new dental family.
Great office and caring doctor. During my 6-year-old son’s dental treatment, the doctor was able to make him feel comfortable, and the whole experience went wonderfully. There is also a kids’ room, which is very convenient for children . We are very happy with the care we received!
The entire staff is incredibly friendly and wonderful with kids. My daughter has had multiple procedures here, and every single time she feels comfortable and cared for. Dr. Josh is so kind and gentle and walks her through everything, explaining each step in a way that helps her feel calm and not scared. They have a wonderful setup for kids to feel welcome and accommodated, with lots of fun little prizes that make the experience feel special. They truly make what can sometimes be stressful dental work—like fillings, cavity treatment, and even minor procedures or extractions—into something really easy and pleasant for the entire family, and we always leave feeling grateful we found them.
It’s no wonder my kids look forward to their dentist appointments and even ask afterwards how soon they can go back - what’s not to love… they have a game room my kids could stay in for hours, TVs with their favorite shows while getting their teeth checked, stickers, the cutest little tooth fairy door my daughter loves, gold coins for the prize machines at the end, and the sweetest staff! Dr. Josh is patient and kind with them and Mary at the front makes them feel right at home. And the coffee bar is great for me ;)
We had a wonderful experience at this clinic. From the moment we arrived, everyone was very friendly and attentive. They took the time to explain the procedure step by step, which made us feel very comfortable and confident. Excellent care and professionalism. Highly recommended!
I was very pleased with how this office ran. The front desk ladies were sweet & Dr. Josh explained everything to me & how the process goes for your child getting put to sleep to get a tooth out. We’ve been to 2 other dentist offices in Summerville that had rude front desk girls, Glad I found Sweet Tooth for my son!
