About Tampa Bay Institute of Oral Surgery and Dental Implants

Based on North Armenia Avenue in the Northwest Tampa area of Tampa, Florida, Tampa Bay Institute of Oral Surgery and Dental Implants is a dental practice serving the area. A dental implant replaces a missing tooth at the root, not just the crown — a small titanium post is placed in the jaw bone and, once it has integrated over a period of months, a replacement tooth is attached to it. It is generally the most durable option for a single missing tooth or several.

A first appointment at a new practice typically covers a full examination, a review of your dental and medical history, and a professional cleaning, with X-rays if you do not have recent ones. It is also a reasonable time to raise any longer-term concerns, cosmetic or otherwise, so they can be factored into a plan going forward.

Day-to-day oral health still comes down to the basics between visits — brushing twice daily with fluoride toothpaste, cleaning between the teeth, and limiting how often sugary food and drink appear through the day matters more than the total amount eaten at once. Regular professional care is what catches whatever those habits do not.

Digital X-rays are a routine part of dental care because they show what a visual exam alone cannot — decay forming between teeth, bone loss below the gumline, and how developing adult teeth are positioned in children. They use a low radiation dose and are taken on a schedule matched to individual risk rather than at every single visit.

Left untreated, small dental problems tend not to stay small. A minor cavity that would have been a straightforward filling can progress to needing root canal treatment and a crown, and early gum inflammation that would have reversed with a good cleaning can progress toward bone loss around the teeth. Catching things early is generally the difference in both effort and cost. Do dental implants hurt?
Placement is done under local anaesthetic, and most people compare the discomfort afterward to an extraction rather than something worse. Soreness for a few days is normal and usually manageable with standard pain relief.
How long do dental implants last?
The implant itself is designed to be permanent and frequently lasts decades. The crown attached to it is the part more likely to need replacing over time, and implants can still be lost to gum infection if cleaning is neglected.
Is it normal for teeth to be sensitive to cold?
Mild, brief sensitivity is common and often relates to exposed root surfaces or worn enamel. Sensitivity that lingers after the cold is removed is more significant and worth having examined, as it can indicate the nerve is involved.

After a lot of frustration with DentaQuest, which seemed to give me every pediatric dentist's number possible instead of an adult dentist, I finally found this clinic and had my appointment on June 15, 2026. I actually could have scheduled an earlier appointment, but I was the one who requested a later date. I drove from Sarasota to Tampa, and when I arrived, I was treated very kindly by the front desk staff. Shortly afterward, I was called in for X-rays and then taken to a room where the doctor reviewed the images. After examining the X-rays, he gave me the option to have my wisdom tooth removed that same day. While I was happy to hear that, I was also nervous because I hadn't mentally prepared myself for it! Since it was only one tooth, full sedation was not an option. I decided to go ahead with the procedure. After a short wait, I was taken to the surgery room. The assistant placed a nitrous oxide mask on me and applied a numbing gel to the area before the injections. I'm not sure the gas affected me much, but the gel definitely did because I didn't even feel the needles. I was very nervous, but both the assistant and the doctor Elmohd were incredibly kind and reassuring throughout the entire process. Within just a few minutes, the tooth was out, and I was ready to go home. I would absolutely recommend this clinic to others. The care and professionalism I received from start to finish were excellent.

The best experience I’ve had so far. I had an appointment to remove my upper right wisdom tooth, and the entire visit—from check-in to check-out—was completed in under 20 minutes. The procedure itself was painless. Dr. Kalsow and his assistant, Ania, maintained a light and friendly conversation during the procedure, which helped create a relaxed atmosphere. Prior to the procedure, Ania and I also shared a brief conversation about our heart conditions, which felt genuine and respectful. She was especially kind and made me feel at ease. In the days following the procedure, my recovery was smooth and quick. The prescribed medication was effective and worked very well. I would highly recommend this practice, especially if you have the opportunity to be treated by the individuals mentioned. I would also like to acknowledge the staff member who performed my X-rays—although I do not recall her name, she was very kind, informative, and had a great sense of humor.

Dr.Aves is amazing! This man means business and I loved that about him. I refer every one to him that needs wisdom teeth out. Had to get a coronectomy due to nerve being too close to the tooth, few years later that half tooth started coming up and he did the surgery to remove it. Both surgery’s went great and honestly wouldn’t trust any other surgeon. The energy he gives off assures you he’s a highly qualified surgeon. Weird to say I know but true! Thanks Dr. Aves!

I am extremely happy with the care I received here! From the initial setting of my appointment,to the front desk staff,to the consult I saw, to the actual dental surgery! Everyone was extremely kind and knowledgeable. Dr. Aves and Deanna were a dynamic duo 😁He was very patient and understanding of my situation. He guided me in the right direction as to what was best for me with my dental issues and Deanna was very explanatory on what I should expect. She made me feel very comfortable and almost like I was talking to a friend I had seen in a long time lol My extractions were better than I expected and quicker than I expected! Dr.Aves is definitely a pro at what he does! I also loved the fact that someone called to check on me to make sure that I was okay and if I had any questions. I truly recommend them! They have an All-Star team! Thank you all ❤️
