About The Downtown Dentist
Based on North Tejon Street in the Downtown area of Colorado Springs, Colorado, The Downtown Dentist is a dental practice serving the area. General dentistry covers the routine and restorative care most people need most often — examinations, cleanings, fillings, and preventive checks that catch problems while they are still small and inexpensive to treat. Regular attendance, roughly every six months for most patients, is what makes that early-catch approach actually work.
Beyond any single treatment, most dental visits start with an examination — checking for decay, reviewing the gums, and looking at existing fillings or crowns — often alongside X-rays where there is a reason to look between or beneath teeth. That groundwork is what a dentist uses to explain any findings and set out next steps before you leave.
Routine attendance, roughly every six months for most people, is what actually keeps small problems small. A lot of decay and gum disease develops without any pain in its early stages, which is why regular checkups matter even when nothing seems to be wrong, rather than only booking an appointment once something hurts.
A first appointment at a new practice typically covers a full examination, a review of your dental and medical history, and a professional cleaning, with X-rays if you do not have recent ones. It is also a reasonable time to raise any longer-term concerns, cosmetic or otherwise, so they can be factored into a plan going forward.
Day-to-day oral health still comes down to the basics between visits — brushing twice daily with fluoride toothpaste, cleaning between the teeth, and limiting how often sugary food and drink appear through the day matters more than the total amount eaten at once. Regular professional care is what catches whatever those habits do not.
Digital X-rays are a routine part of dental care because they show what a visual exam alone cannot — decay forming between teeth, bone loss below the gumline, and how developing adult teeth are positioned in children. They use a low radiation dose and are taken on a schedule matched to individual risk rather than at every single visit. Perhaps one of the most uncomfortable dental appointments in 70+ years of dental visitations. For a 6 month cleaning. I had to wait a long time for my established late afternoon appointment. Ultimately, I had 5 sets of hands, not all at the same time, performing myriad procedures inside my mouth. The dentist left the office, she referred me to Southern Colorado Endodontics to evaluate one tooth that may have been compromised and in need for a root canal. I was evaluated, root canal was determined to not be necessary, and the evaluation was sent back to this dentist and perhaps to my periodontist. I waited two weeks for their response before calling and texting as how to proceed. CRICKETS! I eventually heard from the office manager who attempted to settle the confusion. I chose to resolve the lack of attention by seeking another dentist.
UPDATED———see new post at the end. I’ve been a patient here for more than 10 years! That alone speaks to the level of care, compassion, and comfort that they provide. I was so afraid of dental/oral hygiene, that I had not received care as a young adult for many years. They helped ease my anxiety, and put me on the path to good health!! I’ve been going there since and will continue to be a patient there until the end of time! (LoL). I also appreciate that they support other local business and community organizations!!! Thank you! Update: permanently damaged 2 teeth. They hurt everyday. I’ve paid another dentist to fix one of them. Now, a perfectly healthy tooth has been worked on 5 times because of this practice. I went back twice for them to fix the mess they made. The 3rd time, although I let them know it was chipped and cutting my tongue, they offered to let me buy $30 toothpaste and come back in 2 weeks. No thanks. Sad. I have an appointment next week with highly rated dentist. Wish me luck!!
The Downtown Dentist is amazing! She and her staff go above and beyond to make sure their patients get high quality, trauma free treatment!
Kat and Dr. Z were great!
I have been coming to the same dental location on Willamette for 40 years when it was owned by Dr Wagle. Dr Rohleder the current owner and her staff is carrying on the same friendly tradition I am used to.
It’s a very welcoming office that I feel confidant in handling my dental needs - I highly recommend them!
I have trusted this place with my child’s oral health for the last two years. I have paid for their youth dental plan with trust that they would take care of their teeth. After being bullied every time about it how their teeth looked enamel wise but then being told “they were fine for now,” I finally had enough and took her to a dentist who listened to my concerns with their enamel. I was shocked to find out their enamel had some developmental problems that lead to cavities that could have been caught from the beginning if this place just did their job and cared about their teeth. Now out thousands of dollars with this place and to spend thousands more to fix my child’s teeth because of Downtown Dental. Don’t bother going here or their second location.
It’s hard to explain how great this team of dental professionals is - from the friendly and courteous front desk team who hand you a fistful of quarters to pay for your parking meter, to the techs who provide a non-frightening cleaning experience, to the dentists who are kind, patient and super knowledgeable. Did I mention that in 10+ years as a patient that I’ve never had to wait more than a couple of days to schedule an appointment? Incredible. Keep up the great work, Downtown Dentist!
