About TMJ Plus Wellness Center: Becky R Coats, DDS

TMJ Plus Wellness Center: Becky R Coats, DDS operates on Ira E. Woods Avenue in Grapevine, Texas. Holistic, or biological, dentistry applies standard dental diagnosis and treatment within an approach that emphasises material choice and conservative treatment, considering oral health as connected to the body more broadly rather than treating the mouth in isolation.

Day-to-day oral health still comes down to the basics between visits — brushing twice daily with fluoride toothpaste, cleaning between the teeth, and limiting how often sugary food and drink appear through the day matters more than the total amount eaten at once. Regular professional care is what catches whatever those habits do not.

Digital X-rays are a routine part of dental care because they show what a visual exam alone cannot — decay forming between teeth, bone loss below the gumline, and how developing adult teeth are positioned in children. They use a low radiation dose and are taken on a schedule matched to individual risk rather than at every single visit.

Left untreated, small dental problems tend not to stay small. A minor cavity that would have been a straightforward filling can progress to needing root canal treatment and a crown, and early gum inflammation that would have reversed with a good cleaning can progress toward bone loss around the teeth. Catching things early is generally the difference in both effort and cost.

Continuity matters in dental care — seeing the same practice over time means your history, X-rays, and any patterns in your oral health are already on file, rather than starting from scratch at each visit. That familiarity is part of what a regular dental home offers beyond any single appointment.

Dental anxiety is common, and most practices are used to working with nervous patients — through clear explanations of what is about to happen, a slower pace where needed, and sedation options for patients who want them. Avoiding the dentist out of anxiety tends to make eventual treatment more involved, not less. This page has the practice's contact details and full service list. What is the difference between holistic and cosmetic dentistry?
They overlap but are not the same thing. Cosmetic dentistry is about appearance specifically, while holistic dentistry is a broader philosophy about material choice and treating the mouth as connected to overall health, which can apply to any treatment including cosmetic work.
Is biological or holistic dentistry more expensive?
It can be, since ceramic and composite materials and more conservative techniques sometimes cost more than the cheapest alternative. Pricing varies by practice, so it is worth asking directly rather than assuming.
How can I look after my teeth between appointments?
Brushing twice a day with fluoride toothpaste and cleaning between the teeth daily covers most of it. Limiting how often sugary food and drink appear through the day matters more than the total amount consumed.

MONEY WELL SPENT !

Two stars because some of the staff was kind. But, I absolutely would not recommend this place to anybody. I've waited a bit to write this review because my experience was a lot to process for me. I've had persistent jaw issues for years now. I decided last summer it was time to address them because regular dentists were writing my issues off. I did some research and found TMJ+ online. I was excited and hopeful to get some answers and relief. The initial scans and tests cost me hundreds of dollars. I can't remember exactly how much but it was close to $1k if I remember correctly. I then waited a few weeks for them to be reviewed and then went back to see the results and the recommended treatment plan. I will just say my first impression of Dr. Coats at my very first visit was not good. She was quite cold and arrogant. The entire time she was critiquing my posture, if I was sitting with the slightest head tilt or my foot was pointed out a bit she kept pointing it out and I felt like I couldn't even sit properly and relax. When we got to my second appointment, at one point her treatment coordinator tried talking politics with my husband and I which made us a bit uncomfortable. When Dr. Coats came in, I was then completely blindsided by a very extensive treatment plan that would cost me upwards of $20k. I became quite overwhelmed, and a bit emotional. Dr. Coats was not willing to answer many of my questions. At one point she asked me open my jaw and when I did, my mouth/ jaw was quivering a bit out of anxiety. She tried to say my mouth was doing that because of my jaw issues. I told her no, it's only doing that because I'm anxious right now, it does not usually do that. She then argued with me, saying no, I was wrong. She also said my anxiety is most likely caused by my jaw issues/ tension in my mouth/ jaw and it would get better after I go through the treatment. I then became more emotional and began to cry a bit. Dr. Coats then became even more cold, slightly hostile and abruptly left the room. I still had so many unanswered questions. I was left with her treatment coordinator, who was being kind but she isn't a medical professional who could accurately answer my questions. Overall, it did not seem like Dr. Coats truly wanted to help me. I've never been treated that way by a doctor or medical professional. When I later called back asking for my records to give to another dentist to get a second opinion, the person on the phone tried to argue with me/ discourage me by getting any second opinions saying Dr. Coats is the only one who can help me with my issue. I knew that couldn't be true. I have found another doctor who makes me feel 100% heard and cared for and who I trust. They also believe Dr. Coats treatment plan for me was comple over-treatment. I'm now on a much more carefully thought our treatment plan that I feel very good about. I leave my new office smiling and feeling good, not crying and confused. To be honest, I would rather have traveled anywhere in the country to find treatment than have continued treatment here. I'm glad some people seem to have better experiences here, but I know I can't be the only one with an experience like this. Just know you DO have more options out there, no, they aren't the ONLY ones who can help. I'm grateful I never have to go back here.

I’ve had TMJ issues for over a decade and after just two visits, they gave me an orthotic, and after a couple days my pain subsided and sleep has been amazing! Dr. Coats and staff are amazing, and if you have any TMJ symptoms I highly recommend making an appointment!

I had amazing results with full mouth porcelain veneers! Dr. Coats and her staff were excellent at explaining the process every step of the way and were incredibly communicative any time I had questions. This was the best investment I’ve ever made for my health and esthetic needs. I LOVE MY NEW SMILE!!! VS

Dr. Coats and her staff are absolutely amazing! From my very first inquiry to the consultation, everything was smooth, professional, and welcoming. I’ve been experiencing pain related to TMJ for over 10 years, so I was really hopeful when I reached out to Dr. Coats’ office. Her front office staff responded very quickly, got me scheduled, and gave me a detailed overview of what to expect during my appointment. During my first appointment, we took multiple pictures, scans, and X-rays, and Dr. Coats took the time to thoroughly explain what she saw and what could potentially be contributing to my pain. She also presented me with multiple treatment options, which I really appreciated. I never felt pressured into choosing one particular solution. Instead, it was about what I felt comfortable with and what would work best for me. The entire staff is also wonderful! They are upbeat, welcoming, and genuinely make you feel comfortable. They even had me laughing, which says a lot because, let’s be honest, the dentist isn’t always the place people look forward to going! I would highly recommend Dr. Coats and her staff to anyone looking for compassionate, thorough, and personalized care! ❤️

I’ve been going to TMJ Plus and seeing Dr. Coats for the last 3 and a half years. I showed up after having a “TMJ flare-up” (that’s what I had been writing it off as and then ignoring it) for about 2 weeks, that included extreme pain, my jaw being in a locked position, my face and jaw being hot to the touch, migraines, and ear aches. When I called to set up my first appointment, I just thought that they would say what my dentist had, which was “just stop clenching” and this is something I would just have to live with. But, when I went, yes it was a long appointment, but they did so many scans and pictures and were extremely thorough and I started to feel like they actually cared about my pain and about getting to the bottom of my issue. Fast forward a little, and I found out that I had many issues going on that wouldn’t be fixed by “just not clenching” that were backed up by the scans, tests, and pictures they had taken at the first appointment. It was going to be a multiple year-long journey and yes, expensive, but in the state that I was in, I needed to go on this journey, with the help of TMJ Plus, for my overall wellbeing. Throughout my journey, I got orthotics, a lip tie release, braces, a tongue tie release, and my deviated septum fixed (not done at TMJ plus but was referred to a great surgeon). I met so many nice providers that were there for me every step of the way. My therapy included osteopathic medicine (Dr. Barker is amazing, so helpful, and taught me many things), myofunctional therapy (in preparation for the tongue release and after the release. Also wonderful people.), and seeing the dental hygienist who was so sweet and made me feel comfortable. I just finished this journey and looking back, I wouldn’t trade it for the world. The amount of pain I was in was unimaginable and not sustainable. Honestly, my pain was no where near that level after the first step of orthotics, which was great and surprising, but each step we did in my plan, the better I felt. My body had also been so tense with my lip and tongue tie that once they were released, the relief I felt was something I’ve never felt before. My face, neck and back tightness/pain has been relieved immensely. I really can’t describe how this journey has helped me live a better life and have a better well-being. They care about YOU and YOUR overall life and want to help you. I’ve seen other reviews about price and yes, it’s expensive, but with insurance (you do have to submit claims yourself) and budgeting, it IS doable. I’ve learned over time that this is something I NEEDED to do for me and for the rest of my life and that’s priceless. I can’t thank TMJ Plus enough for being with me throughout this time and also educating me on my condition. I’m very confident that all that we did will continue to make me feel pain-free and grateful for it. TLDR: if you’re in immense jaw pain and cannot get relief, TMJ Plus is really the place to go. Everyone is so nice, accommodating, and wants to see you improve. Whether it’s a quick fix/adjustment or a 3 year journey (like mine), you will leave this office with pain relief and a new lease on life.

I have had many excellent experiences at TMJ Wellness with Dr. Coats and her wonderful staff. The staff is welcoming, professional, and genuinely cared about helping me find relief from my pain. The office is clean, comfortable, and every visit has been a positive experience. They are committed to addressing the root cause of my issues rather than just treating the symptoms. I highly recommend TMJ Wellness to anyone looking for more of a holistic dentist. Their expertise and compassionate care truly make a difference.

Came into office in excruciating jaw and neck pain. Couldn’t open my mouth to take a bite of anything. After 5-6 months of orthotics, I have range of motion and best of all, no pain!!! Dr. Coats is one of the most professional and intentional doctors I have encountered! Thank you, thank you!!

I went to Dr Coats having dealt with TMJ issues for over a decade. The dentists that I had seen in the past for the issue were only able to give me night guards, but that never was able to solve the issue. Dr Coats’ comprehensive process helped diagnose the underlying cause of the TMJ issues, and offered a variety of treatment options. I did a lip and tongue-tie release as a part of the treatment plan. The procedure was very straightforward and after a few days of recovery, there was a noticeable decrease in my neck, facial, and jaw tension. I’m very grateful to Dr. Coats and her staff for the care they have provided throughout the process.

I’m a new patient of Dr. Coats beginning to navigate my journey of healing my TMJ pain. Dr. Coats is extremely thorough. I had gone to a previous provider years ago who didn’t do half the scanning and analysis Dr. Coats did. She went through each scan and explained in detail what was going on and the appropriate treatment plans for me. I now have hope to finding a permanent solution to this pain that has bothered me for 6 years. Also a plus that her office staff is extremely kind and helpful. I have nothing but good things to say so far. Can’t wait to be pain free!
