About Toothology Dental
Toothology Dental operates on North Miller Road in the South Scottsdale area of Scottsdale, Arizona. Dentures replace some or all of the natural teeth in a jaw with a removable appliance, custom-fitted to the mouth. A full denture replaces every tooth; a partial fills gaps where some natural teeth remain. Because the jaw bone reshapes over time, dentures typically need adjusting or remaking periodically.
Day-to-day oral health still comes down to the basics between visits — brushing twice daily with fluoride toothpaste, cleaning between the teeth, and limiting how often sugary food and drink appear through the day matters more than the total amount eaten at once. Regular professional care is what catches whatever those habits do not.
Digital X-rays are a routine part of dental care because they show what a visual exam alone cannot — decay forming between teeth, bone loss below the gumline, and how developing adult teeth are positioned in children. They use a low radiation dose and are taken on a schedule matched to individual risk rather than at every single visit.
Left untreated, small dental problems tend not to stay small. A minor cavity that would have been a straightforward filling can progress to needing root canal treatment and a crown, and early gum inflammation that would have reversed with a good cleaning can progress toward bone loss around the teeth. Catching things early is generally the difference in both effort and cost.
Continuity matters in dental care — seeing the same practice over time means your history, X-rays, and any patterns in your oral health are already on file, rather than starting from scratch at each visit. That familiarity is part of what a regular dental home offers beyond any single appointment.
Dental anxiety is common, and most practices are used to working with nervous patients — through clear explanations of what is about to happen, a slower pace where needed, and sedation options for patients who want them. Avoiding the dentist out of anxiety tends to make eventual treatment more involved, not less. The staff is friendly. Clarence did a very gentle cleaning. Dr. Sanford explained things clearly. The only thing stopping me from further treatment here, is that my insurance doesn't cover near enough.
I cannot speak highly enough of my experience at Toothology :) I walked in with a mouth full of pain and walked out with a plan to tackle it with Dr. Sanford. Jen and Dr. Sanford made the experience comfortable, kept me informed, and even made me laugh throughout the process. The entire team is magnetic and deeply knowledgeable. Thank you so much for being a part of helping me live pain free!
Dr. Sanford is an excellent and highly knowledgeable dentist who has always given me top notch care. The office assistants Jen and Genesis were professional and friendly.
Excellent care is always provided at every appointment. This place has such a nice professional dental team to work with. Highly recommend it.
Staff is very nice. Dr. Sanford is an amazing.
I had two fillings done today, and the experience was great. The procedure was fast and not painful at all. The dentist and assistant were both very kind, professional, and helpful. They made me feel comfortable throughout the entire visit. I really appreciate the excellent care and would highly recommend this office!
Great experience at Toothology as a new patient. Clarence does great work, is knowledgeable and provided an excellent environment for my cleaning. Dr Sanford is very welcoming and thorough. Definitely recommend!
From the receptionist to the hygienist to the dentist, Dr. Sanford, everyone is absolutely amazing. The entire team is friendly, thorough, and incredibly efficient. They make every visit feel comfortable and seamless, and you can tell they truly care about their patients. I always feel well taken care of and appreciate how professional and kind everyone is. Highly recommend!
This is my first visit to the dentist in 10 years and I was terrified of what they might say, and how the experience would go. However, my fears were put the rest once I got into the building. The women at the front desk were sweet and helpful. Once I went to the back, Alfredo took care of me and was kind and patient. Dr. Stacey was very understanding and informative, and then Clarence (the hygienist) was possibly the best part of the experience! He was very personable and willing to talk with me about any dental concerns I had. He took the time to go over my treatment plan and help me understand what my next visit would look like in terms of fillings and cleanings. He was patient and even though this was Initially, just going to be an initial visit and exam, he made time to get my first cleaning done. I’m very grateful for the team and I look forward to future experiences there
I am a longtime patient of Dr. Sanford and wasn’t sure what to expect when she closed her practice and transitioned to Toothology. Part of me wanted to find a dentist closer to home so that I don’t have to drive over from Central Phoenix now that I don’t work in Scottsdale every day anymore. Over the weekend, I lost a crown on a molar thanks to a sample bag of Skittles that I should have passed on. With the crown on its way to the landfill, I resorted to shellacking it with temporary cement until today (Monday). Not knowing what to do, I showed up at 8 this morning when the practice opened. Dr. Sanford was behind the desk talking to the receptionist and immediately greeted me, “Hey Matt!” which put me at ease. Shortly thereafter I was in an exam chair being treated by the wonderful staff there. They went out of their way to make me feel welcome, make sure I didn’t feel like a burden (since they were working me in) and to explain everything so I understood. Aside from Dr. Sanford’s comforting presence (which has always put me at ease), I was happy to learn that Toothology has a mill and can make same day crowns! A couple of hours later, I left with a completely reassembled tooth! The $150 difference is a bargain compared to how miserable it is eating with a temporary for 2 weeks! At any rate, thanks to today’s experience, I’m excited to get to see Dr. Sanford for as long as she will keep tending to my teeth - and by extension my sanity!
