I do NOT recommend the place, if you don't have insurance, and you're paying out of pocket, like me! Undoubtedly, the staff at the Treaty Oak Dental are all very friendly! Dr. Bruce is equally as cordial and nice as his staff. However, it takes more than just cordiality to provide a quality service! My experience with Treaty Oak Dental was not positive at all, despite being very well greeted by everyone. #1 - The place is extremely expensive! I needed a dental cleaning, and I've got an estimate of almost $4,000 for a treatment! I understand that I had more than just the cleaning to do, but it’s still frustrating... Keep reading to understand why! #2 - Even being recommended by my Orthodontist, Treaty Oak Dental would NOT work the cost of my treatment with me! Meaning, if I don't have the money to pay in full, or have no insurance, no treatment will be done! I would get ONLY what I could pay! #3 - They refused to do only the prophylaxis cleaning that I wanted, which I understand, as I kinda figured I had more than just a cleaning to do, but NEVER thought it would almost reach $4,000 for a treatment, nor I thought I wouldn't be able to have ongoing payments plans available to me, since I would pay out of pocket. With that being said, why not just do the cleaning I requested in the first place? #4 - And last, but not least, I was charged $140 for wasting my time with them! The No Surprises Act (which is a federal law) never happened! I'm sure they'll say something was done, or that they charged for the visit, etc. However, nothing can justify a charge of $140 for an estimate of treatment! I say that, as upon booking the appointment, their secretary said before anything, the office needs “to establish me as a patient” before any treatment is done. I didn't think I would be charged for being established as a patient! Disappointment and frustration define what I'm feeling right now!
Update 8/28/25: Stay Away! 👎Dr Jay's attitude is worse than last yr. Today he was rude & interrupted me when i was trying to explain about my new condition. Am tired of Michelle, the hygienist who is pushy & patronizing & kept asking me about medication and other PHI. THERE ARE NO DOORS in the ofc, it's a big horse stable with open stalls where everyone can hear everything! 😡 Have been coming here since 2001 (original dentist was Dr. Brender who was wonderful) but the level of service has gone down in the past few years; I always feel rushed out of there. IMPORTANT: When treatment is needed, ALWAYS ASK DR. JAY TO GO OVER OPTIONS NOT THE HYGIENIST! I respect dental hygienists' knowledge & their work but they are NOT dentists so DO NOT let them "run" the appt. YOU HAVE THE RIGHT to ask the dentist about procedures and options! Also, make sure to find out how much your Out of Pocket cost will be BEFORE letting them schedule you for major dental work! One of the hygienists (Michelle) used scare tactics & verbally pushed a treatment plan on me with no other options.....IMO, the dentist is best qualified to do that and you'll save time asking him instead of asking the hygienist who may not know all of the answers. When it was Dr. Brender's office, he was ALWAYS the one who discussed treatment options with me, including fillings. If you go to Dr. Jay's ofc, you'll need to be assertive & DEMAND to have him go over the options with you. Julie is friendly & efficient, as well as Theresa the Office Mgr, who is great at finding out what your Out of Pocket costs will be in advance. I recommend Treaty Oak Dental, just with the caveat that you'll need to make sure that Dr. Jay goes over options with you & answers any technical questions you may have.
The staff is awesome! Theresa is very caring and professional. I felt very pleased with the service.
Great experience. Trustworthy dentist who looks out for their patients.
Love my small family practice dentistry. Have been going here for five years and it’s always been an incredible experience, Tina my dental hygienist is amazing, so thoughtful and really cares about you. BEST DENTIST IN AUSTIN! Especially during Covid they have been taking extra safety precautions.
Dr. Jay is the best dentist I've ever visited. He's helped me fix several issues caused by other, less-scrupulous dentists, and his pricing is fair and transparent, unlike many other offices I've been to. Their availability is much more accommodating than many other offices as well. His front desk staff is extremely courteous and helpful, and his dental assistants and hygienists are very skilled and thorough. It seems like the majority of the staff is Spanish-English bilingual, including Dr. Jay. I would recommend this office to anyone, and wish I had found them sooner.
Wonderful calming experience. Very professional clean high tech equipment. I felt I was in good hands with Dr. Jay and assistant. Front desk lady was very prompt to notice me. Can you believe they all called me by my name upon my follow up visit. Very impressed. My Daughter has been there and my husband now. This our family dentist now.
