About UK Dentistry - Urgent Care Clinic
UK Dentistry - Urgent Care Clinic is located at 800 Rose Street in Lexington, Kentucky — the dental urgent care and emergency access clinic of the University of Kentucky College of Dentistry, operating from the same 800 Rose Street address as the UK College of Dentistry's main teaching clinics on the UK HealthCare academic medical campus in ZIP 40536. "Urgent Care" in a dental context refers to same-day or next-day access for acute dental conditions — toothache, dental abscess, broken tooth, lost restoration, dental trauma, or other conditions that cause acute pain or functional impairment — as distinct from "emergency dentistry" broadly and from elective restorative or preventive procedures that can be scheduled routinely. The UK Dentistry Urgent Care Clinic provides a distinct access point within the UK dental school's patient care infrastructure for patients who need expedited evaluation and treatment without a prior established patient relationship or advance appointment scheduling — an important access function for Lexington patients experiencing acute dental pain who seek academic dental care rather than or in addition to private emergency dental practices. As with all UK College of Dentistry patient care services, the Urgent Care Clinic operates under faculty supervision of dental students and residents, meaning care is provided in a teaching environment with the corresponding lower fees typical of academic dental care.
UK Dentistry - Urgent Care Clinic provides same-day or expedited dental evaluations and emergency dental treatments for patients in Lexington, Fayette County, and the surrounding central Kentucky communities experiencing acute dental conditions. Emergency and urgent dental services include pain evaluation and management, dental abscess examination and antibiotic therapy or drainage referral, broken tooth assessment and temporary restoration, lost filling or crown emergency re-cementation, dental trauma evaluation (chipped, fractured, avulsed, or luxated teeth), and triage for conditions requiring referral to the UK oral surgery or specialist departments within the dental school's faculty-supervised clinical infrastructure. The UK HealthCare campus location at 800 Rose Street provides access to on-site specialist backup within the UK College of Dentistry for urgent cases requiring immediate specialist consultation or referral.
Rose Street's UK HealthCare campus position provides access from South Limestone Street and the UK campus transit network, from downtown Lexington via Limestone Street, and from the I-75 and I-64 Lexington interchanges. The UK Dentistry at Turfland satellite clinic (2195 Harrodsburg Rd) extends UK dental access to the west Lexington ZIP 40504 community for patients who cannot easily access the Rose Street campus.
For Lexington and central Kentucky patients experiencing acute dental pain or dental emergencies who seek academic dental care, UK Dentistry - Urgent Care Clinic at 800 Rose Street provides expedited dental access within the UK College of Dentistry's faculty-supervised teaching clinic campus.

Went in with severe abscess with lots of pain and golf ball size swelling on my face had already been on antibiotics for 3 days still swollen. I have severe dental anxiety and was going in with a lot of pain they took 5 hours before they saw me. She said she would pull the tooth I said ok when she was unable to get my mouth numb enough to pull it because it was so swollen with infection she then tried to tell me to lay there and let her pull my tooth even though I could feel everything. I said no and she said well I can’t do anything for you. So she sent me away no more help for a severe infection, she sent me away with more pain than I went in with because she tried to pull the tooth and she pulled one more that was broken. So I had even more swelling and pain and a hurt ego because I was having a panic attack from the dental visit from hell and she did nothing to help me except yell at me tell me the infection was going to end up killing me and send me away with no stronger antibiotics or any pain medication and just further irritated my infected tooth. Do not go here for a dental emergency as they will do absolutely nothing but try to yank teeth out without numbing you and without trying to clear any infection up.
Be prepared to pay full dental office prices upfront before you have the procedures done if you don't have insurance. They do not offer payments options like the regular emergency room. I brought my father there who had 9 abscessed teeth and had no insurance. Three needed to be surgically removed. The price we would have had to pay to have it done there would have been $500 more than what my personal dentist charged us after he waved the X-ray and examination fee and didn't charge us extra for the surgical removals. Plus he had it all done within an hour. Also be prepared to come back multiple times since it will be a student working and usually won't be able to finish the procedure the same day unless it's a simple extraction and you'll spend half the time waiting for an instructor to come over and look at their work. If it's an emergency and you can't get into a regular dentist or for the sake of teaching the students please go it is a great opportunity for dental students to learn but you won't save money. I was referred to them by the veterans hospital er around the corner from the hospital and was told they will do the work and take payments they were surprised when I told them they don't do that when I contacted them to let them know. They had been referring disabled and low income veterans there for years think they could get the work done and pay later. The VA only offers dental care for pension veterans or 100 percent disabled veterans, go figure. Plus youll have to be there at about 630-700 am before they open so you can make sure you are seen the same day. There were already 8 people there waiting when we arrived at 645am.
I had a dental emergency. It was a mess getting signed up and getting there early enough to get a spot. All that said the staff was professional and polite. I wish I got the name of the student dentist I seen he was awesome. The only issue I had is the pricing. I was told at the dentist chair my tooth removal was going to be $70 or so. I walked to go pay not even 30 seconds later just around the corner and it turned into $170 for the extraction. She explained that I'm paying for a surgical extraction and if it ends up being simple I would get a refund for the extra $100. I never did hear anything back. All that said I am happy they provide this service. If you come make sure you sign up early and scan the QR code in the lobby to get in line. I got up there almost an hour before opening and some people beat me there. I would recommend coming here for anyone who needs something done immediately.
I genuinely don't understand the purpose of this clinic. My daughter was seen and it was determined she needed a root canal which they will schedule in.... a couple of weeks. So, don't waste your time coming here. It is unnecessarily expensive and it's simply... a triage? A $132 charge to simply be looked at. You'd be MUCH better off at literally any other dental clinic. Genuinely, what is the purpose of this lmao.
Dentist and receptionist played in my face, they played on my intelligence and refused to help me 5 times! This is a whites only dentist?? Not to mention I hardly spoke when I came in yet a doctor said I was rude in my notes and I never said anything to her.. I did want to say things but I didn’t I was too desperate for help and still just kept getting played with! I walked out the office crying in pain no of them cared. I’ve called to speak with ms manager but she never returned my call!
I was rather disappointed by how rude the staffing was there and how unorganized everything was. I drove to the urgent care clinic here because I am autistic and UK had never failed to accommodate me before. I called ahead to see if I could come in, and the lady on the phone told me I just had to get there before they opened because they only accept so many people a day; that was fine with me. I live three hours away, and the building opens at 8, so of course I get there by 7 thinking "okay this is great. I woke up at 4 a.m., got on the road, and arrived at 7. I'm early just like the lady told me" I sit in the lobby waiting for the service desk woman to arrive, and when she does she is incredibly rude to me and my family and unhelpful. A kind lady came off the elevator and said "uh, if you're going to urgent care, it's on the third floor and you better hurry because they're almost full." I was so upset and panicked. So I get up the elevator and there are already like twenty people there and signed in-- and it's not even 8 yet! They said people had come in at 5 just to get a spot there, and I was not only distressed and in extreme dental pain, but was appalled by the organizing and state of the building. I go to the desk to see what I need to do, and the desk clerk says "there's a line. Go sit." And I look around and ask the people where the end is, which most people said they had already signed in and nobody was waiting. I try again, and I'm told the same thing. More people come in and sign in and I'm like "what the hell???" I was here first and the desk clerk was just ignoring me. After an hour of waiting they said they reached full capacity for the day and to come back tomorrow. Seriously. I drove three hours to Lexington, came early as directed, and wasted so much money and gas and time for nothing. I don't think it's fair they are servicing and signing people up waaayyyy before opening; i don't care how busy they get. It is not fair. There were people there getting urgent care for minor cavities while I had a horribly painful broken tooth and was ignored.
Went here because nobody would help me remove my broken wisdom teeth. These students and teachers are amazing. Yes you have to arrive early when they open at 7:30 but rest assured its worth the wait!
The receptionist was nice and I was there early enough that I didn’t have much of a wait at all to be seen. The student who worked on me was wonderful, as was his supervisor. They were kind to me and while they did point out some other dental issues that I’d been unable to keep up with, they didn’t criticize me or make me feel bad. I really felt like they were happy to have me as a patient and I plan to establish care here.
