I absolutely love the whole UHealth of Miami team and hospital…. They make it so easy to navigate through the hospital with color codes and excellent staff!
This has been my worst disappointment. My sister was admitted to the hospital as an emergency case with a pre-existing cancer diagnosis and an abdomen distended with fluid. The care at the ER entrance was excellent; she was immediately taken in, the fluid was drained, and she was moved to the oncology ward. For the first three days, doctors were constantly attending to her and running tests. However, they decided to repeat a biopsy—one that had already been performed at a previous hospital but yielded inconclusive results. Once they repeated the biopsy, the nightmare began: two weeks passed with no results, while she grew weaker by the day without any treatment, barely having the energy left to fight the cancer. To this day, she has no assigned oncologist and has received no treatment, all while the cancer progresses. I cannot fault the care provided by the nurses and assistants—they were all excellent, attentive, and professional. The problem lies with the doctors; they are passing the buck back and forth like players in a match. Even after three weeks, there is still no assigned oncologist. They are literally playing soccer—everyone, including the ward staff—just passing the ball around. I don't think they realize it isn't a ball; it is a mother who wants to fight her cancer so she can watch her child grow up. She lives in the country with the best resources in the world and has good health insurance covering everything. The big question is: if this is the best hospital, what hope is there for the others? It is horrifying; we are living through difficult times, and all we can do is trust and place everything in God's hands. ; she was in room PH12. From the moment she set foot in that ward, the mistreatment she and her accompanying husband received from Dr. Michael Rodríguez escalated significantly. It is a shame to see a doctor like Michael Rodríguez act this way. I want to believe he is being inhumane because he is following orders from superiors—since it is hard to imagine a doctor violating his medical oath out of his own free will—but you know what? The best thing that could have happened was for Dr. Michael Rodríguez to kick her out of the ward, as he did yesterday, without her oncology or pain management appointments, and without having the fluid drained from her
Terrible service, starting with the information staff; they don't speak Spanish, won't transfer your calls, and leave you hanging. The service is very poor—I won't generalize, as not everyone is necessarily the same, but everyone I've dealt with has provided very bad, truly awful service.
My son, who died in that hospital two years ago, initially did very well with Dr. Guillermo Prieto and Dr. Barshu. After they left, the care from the doctors was very poor, especially after Dr. Colin Hill took over. They prescribed Avastin, and I kept calling to tell them that it, along with the steroids, was deteriorating his condition too much, but they ignored me. I don't know what was worse, the illness or what they were giving him. Then Dr. Macarena saw him one day and, in a very arrogant manner, told him he had two months to live. The care on the 6th floor from the nurses was terrible; they ignored the instructions given by the neurologists who saw him, as well as those of the physical therapists, except for a young Cuban man with blue eyes who was incredibly kind. Nurse Mesa was so kind that she had to rush to Richard's aid. Because they administered the medication intravenously too quickly, his heart rate spiked to 130-150 beats per minute, and he remained high for two days. To make matters worse, they moved him to intermediate care and immediately started him on morphine. He didn't last long; he died a few hours later. He had been hospitalized once on the 9th floor, and the care was good, but on the 6th floor, where he was twice, the care was terrible. There are many nurses who have studied online...

From the moment I arrived, I was met with kindness, professionalism, and genuine compassion. The doctors took the time to clearly explain my condition and treatment plan, giving me confidence and peace of mind during a very difficult time. The nurses were truly outstanding, attentive, patient, and always willing to go the extra mile to ensure my comfort and well-being. Every member of the team, including technicians and support staff, played an important role in my recovery. Your dedication, teamwork, and commitment to patient care did not go unnoticed. You made a challenging experience far more manageable, and for that, I am deeply grateful. I would also like to recognize a few individuals who made a lasting impact. Kiandra from check-in was exceptional, she called ahead to let me know my room was not yet ready before I drove to the hospital, and she followed up several times to keep me updated on the status. When I arrived, she was cheerful, welcoming, and made me feel comfortable right away. Christian spent a great deal of time caring for me and ensuring the doctors were updated on any issues I encountered. Jose and Ramon were always caring, respectful, and kind each time they came into the room. The charge nurses, Yaneris and Sergio, were consistently attentive and ready to help with anything I needed. Mercedes, the social worker, provided me with tremendous peace of mind, reassuring me that any concerns would be addressed. Even the food service staff were very helpful and did an excellent job accommodating my allergies and dietary restrictions. My discharge nurse, Hanna, was incredible—she made sure everything was organized and that my medications were sent to the correct pharmacy without any issues. Lastly, Giselle, your professionalism and ability to resolve concerns so efficiently truly stood out; I was very impressed and grateful. If I have unintentionally missed anyone, please know that my appreciation extends to the entire team. I have been in many hospitals due to my condition, and the staff on the 9th floor truly deserve special recognition. Thank you for your long hours, your compassion, and the care you provide every single day. It truly makes a difference in the lives of your patients. The staff at UM, from doctors to janitors, are incredibly helpful. As we went through the maze of buildings and corridors to find our appts., every person in these facilities looked at us, in passing, and you could tell they were looking to see if we needed help getting somewhere! And they asked and helped! It was like being in an envelope of caring friends. The onco team with Dr. Estelmarie Rodriguez and Adrianna and the radiolgy team with Dr. Mahall are miracle workers so we shouldn't be surprised but we are just amazed and grateful for the expertise and care at UM, Sylvester Cancer Center.
My son had a TBI in 2019. We’ve been to the best hospitals and to the not so best. My son has been seen by world recognized physicians nurses and technicians. But no one come close to the level of care of University of Miami health systems. If anyone person is not happy with the care of themselves or a love one. You just try University of Miami. I fully recommend them.
Guys even do their service are very nice but this hospital is only for rich people. They provide you services then they kill you with a bill. They charges are insane and on top of that they don't even tell you anything before the service. If you call the billing department they can't help you . I had an injection and the billing was for $10500. What the hell they inject me a new soul?. And on top of that the description says 3 injection. I been calling billing departmen with no luck. So I had to escalate to the insurance company. If the cancer is not going to kill me the billing department will.
My husband recently passed away st u Miami He battled heart failure for twenty five years Although at times he met with system challenges his stays in icu could not have been better. The nurses and doctors were kind effcient and caring. Everyone went beyond to help and care. That being said I want to share my disappointment with the head of the heart failure unit Namely dr weaver pinzon and dr manning Both were my husbands doctors from the time they arrived at this hospital. Although skeptical he gave his faith to this team It was during holiday he was very sick not one visit from either although I understand his priority being at Jackson with transplant and l vad patients. His lack of consideration. Compassion and. I cannot ever know whether he consulted saddened me It is not easy to face a family when they loose someone. But it is a professional and compassionate Has this what medcine come to Just a side note. His other docs from the hospital did call. It takes five minutes I hope that dr pinzon reads this and changes his approach to patients that might not draw the same revenue for the hospital Disappointed not angry Sherri schulman
I wanted to thanks My UM General Medicine to Neuro Team to my Nurses to CNA. They were so supportive and amazing. Couldn’t thank them enough. My nurses were amazing they made my birthday so special. Couldn’t ask for a better team! My doctors were able to solve my pain and now I able to be with kids. I was admitted for 11 days and the nurses I got, I won’t mention name for privacy reasons but if need you can reach me out. I had nurses and cna that didn’t see me as a patient but a human and would actually talk to me. Also, nurses that weren’t my nurses were so sweet to me also. If I had recommended a hospital, I recommend this one. 100%

This hospital is part of the Jackson Memorial Hospital system. Most people I confer with state that they prefer to go to this particular hospital. Being that it is a" teaching" hospital, many of the doctors/nurses are very dedicated and esteemed in their specialties. The interns are very dedicated and treat the patients with the knowledge and care their mentors have instilled in them professionally. You definitely receive the proper care for whatever ailment/illness has an individual hospitalized. Also the staff is very concerned and meticulous about after care and the general well being of their patients upon their release. Once you step through these doors, rest assured your health and care is the main priority of this hospital's staff. JE.
