Everyday family dental care, Denver
Smyleee Rating
Very Good
Set up on Buchtel Boulevard South in South Denver, University Park Family Dental runs as a general-dentistry practice set up for the everyday work most patients actually need. The clinic is built around the day-to-day work — not boutique marketing — and serves adults and kids in one familiar place. The shape of the practice fits patients who want a clear conversation about what's actually needed, with treatment staged around real priorities rather than a one-shot proposal on the first visit. If you're scoping a South Denver dental option, this is a sensible practice to put on a short list of candidates and book a first visit with.
Service coverage spans the standard general-dentistry breadth: routine cleanings and exams, tooth-colored fillings, crowns and bridges, root canal treatment, basic extractions, and gum-disease management. The practice also handles in-office whitening for a cosmetic refresh when patients need them, alongside the routine preventive work. Restorations lean conservative — composite material rather than amalgam — and most needs are kept in-house, with specialty referrals reserved for cases that genuinely call for them rather than offered up front.
If you're choosing a long-term general dentist rather than a one-off appointment, this is a practice set up for ongoing patient relationships.
Cost positioning sits in the typical Denver general-dentistry range, with most major insurance plans accepted and clear pretreatment estimates before restorative work begins. Patients searching for general dentistry in Denver, CO, long-time family dentist in Denver, CO, or dentist accepting new patients in Denver, CO commonly land at neighborhood practices like this one — generalists rather than narrow specialty offices. It suits families wanting consistency over many years, patients who value predictable scheduling, and anyone who'd rather have one trusted dentist see the same teeth across decades than rotate through a corporate group practice. The South Denver location works for patients already running errands in this part of Denver, and parking and transit access tend to be straightforward for the surrounding blocks.
University Park Family Dental on Buchtel Boulevard South in South Denver runs a general-dentistry practice covering cleanings, fillings, crowns, root canals, and basic emergency care for adults and kids for Denver families.

I had a very disappointing experience at University Park Family Dental and would not recommend this practice. In my experience, Lopez recommended dental work that did not appear to be necessary. During my most recent visit, a tooth was damaged as part of a whitening procedure. When I returned to address the issue, he suggested it was caused by grinding rather than clearly explaining what went wrong or offering a satisfactory resolution. The way it is broken cannot be done by grinding. Easy physics. They also push X-rays at an excessive frequency as if they are taking selfies, which felt unnecessary and driven more by billing than patient care. On top of that, there was constant upselling throughout my visits, which came across more like a used car salesman's sales pitch rather than medical guidance. The overall office environment was also unprofessional. Loud country music was playing early in the morning in shared spaces, which made the visit uncomfortable and disruptive. This practice felt more focused on maximizing insurance billing and add-on services than on patient care. I hope others do their research before choosing this office. Not recommended!
I truly enjoy going to the dentist when I go to University Park Family Dental. They are affordable and accomodating and work to get you in and out. They are kind and good at what they do. I trust my smile with them. Highly Recommend!
I previously received dental care here and was very impressed with Dr. Lopez’s clinical work. However, my experience with the office manager was very different. The balance on my account originated after I switched jobs. Before my appointment, I asked multiple times whether my new employer-based insurance was active. I was told that it was, and my appointment proceeded based on that information. I later learned the coverage was not active, which resulted in an unexpected balance. After securing stable employment with the state, I contacted the office again. The first thing I said was that I had a balance and wanted to pay my bill. I had every intention of resolving it and even planned to pay in full at my next appointment. Dr. Lopez spoke with me directly and expressed willingness to work with me if needed regarding payment. However, when I was transferred to the office manager, the tone of the conversation shifted immediately. Instead of discussing options, I was told, “We don’t do payment plans, so what do you want?” I explained that Dr. Lopez had just indicated flexibility could be discussed if needed, but I was then told that all of my future appointments would be cancelled unless the balance was paid in full. This was stated even though I had initiated the call specifically to resolve the balance. The interaction felt dismissive and assumptive — as though I was unwilling to pay, rather than someone taking responsibility. After multiple interactions that felt disrespectful, I reached a point of frustration and expressed that clearly — without making any threats. The way I was spoken to raised a difficult question for me: would the same assumptions have been made if I were not an African American patient? We do not choose our race when we are born. Just as capability and responsibility are often assumed in some patients, those same assumptions should be extended to all individuals. Based on my experience, people of color may want to carefully reconsider whether this office will provide an environment that feels equitable and respectful. The contrast between Dr. Lopez’s willingness to work with me and the office manager’s refusal to do so created the impression that what patients experience may not always fully reflect what is communicated internally. While a practice may choose which insurance plans it accepts, it does not choose the race of those who seek care. I still intend to resolve my balance. However, I have formally notified the office that I will not be returning. I am sharing this experience in hopes that it encourages reflection and change — though I am not optimistic that it will. Dr. Lopez provides strong clinical care. Unfortunately, the front office experience did not reflect the same level of professionalism.
I know I can rely on Dr Lopez and University park family dental with all my dental needs- I’ve had my fair share of dental emergencies and I was able to get them addressed promptly! Always great communication about the billing as well- I always know how much everything will cost before it’s done Nice clean office with great staff
I’ve been seeing Dr. Lopez for quite a while now, and I can honestly say his work is the best! Every visit is smooth, professional, and painless. He takes the time to explain everything, makes sure I’m comfortable, and delivers results that go above and beyond my expectations. My smile has never looked better! I’d give 10/10 if I could — highly recommend Dr. Lopez to anyone looking for top-notch dental care.
