About University Pediatric Dentistry
University Pediatric Dentistry is a dental practice on Main Street in the Fruit Belt area of Buffalo, New York. Pediatric dental care is built around treating children specifically — dentists with additional training in child development and behaviour management, and offices designed to make a first visit unintimidating. Guidance generally points to a child's first dental visit around age one or within six months of the first tooth.
Digital X-rays are a routine part of dental care because they show what a visual exam alone cannot — decay forming between teeth, bone loss below the gumline, and how developing adult teeth are positioned in children. They use a low radiation dose and are taken on a schedule matched to individual risk rather than at every single visit.
Left untreated, small dental problems tend not to stay small. A minor cavity that would have been a straightforward filling can progress to needing root canal treatment and a crown, and early gum inflammation that would have reversed with a good cleaning can progress toward bone loss around the teeth. Catching things early is generally the difference in both effort and cost.
Continuity matters in dental care — seeing the same practice over time means your history, X-rays, and any patterns in your oral health are already on file, rather than starting from scratch at each visit. That familiarity is part of what a regular dental home offers beyond any single appointment.
Dental anxiety is common, and most practices are used to working with nervous patients — through clear explanations of what is about to happen, a slower pace where needed, and sedation options for patients who want them. Avoiding the dentist out of anxiety tends to make eventual treatment more involved, not less.
Children benefit from starting dental visits early, generally by their first birthday or within six months of the first tooth coming through, mainly so they become familiar with the setting before any treatment is actually needed. Establishing that routine early tends to make ongoing checkups far less stressful for both child and parent. This page has the practice's contact details and full service list. This is the worse place, I called like 10 times to make an appointment they never answered the phone, plus I left like voice messages and they never got back to me. When finally I made the appointment for this location calling other location!!! I was there and this very dude woman saying I didn’t response the calls or the text messages they sent me. I didn’t receive any call or message. I spoke with a person on Tuesday and we agreed to keep the appointment for today Friday! This is incredible the people working in there is very bad, technically she saying I am lying ! I will never go back to this place !
Rude staff, charge insurance prior to appointment and run insurance while making appointments. They wouldn’t schedule my appointment cause they couldn’t get a hold of my insurance so they say I call my insurance confirmed is good called them and they still didn’t schedule me cause they couldn’t run my insurance when I was making the appointment got the following month? On top of not doing their job they hung up on me and wouldn’t answer I messaged them on the portal and still no response on the appointment it’s been 2 weeks since I called to try and make an appointment horrible staff
Good luck on trying to get them to pick up and even schedule an appointment for you
My daughter went to get her wisdom teeth pulled and a staff member was rude to her and she told him not to speak to her like that then they apparently dropped all my kids ( mind you my kids have been going there since the last 3 yrs) and now refusing to respond when I asked for records for everything I ended up having to call one of their other offices to get anywhere!!! Absolutely ridiculous do not send your kids here!!!
Note- This is not about this specific location, but about the practice in general and Abbott Rd. location... They were great until they were not. I make my child's appointments 6 months in advance. The past 2 appointments (after confirming via text that we would be there) UPD called me the day before to reschedule. They only offered one new day and time to reschedule otherwise I could go on a waitlist or push the appointment out 4-5 months. You can't cancel and then only offer one option. That's not acceptable when work and school schedules have to be planned in advance. Now, my child had an appointment in March we needed to reschedule. I have left no less than SIX messages with no call back at the Abbott Rd. location over a 2 week period. Their voicemail says they are only open Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. I have called during open hours and no one picks up. I even went as far as to call another location to see if they could help me, but they could not. They only offered appointments at their location. I find out THROUGH GOOGLE that the Abbott Rd. location is permanently closed. No timely call, no offer to reschedule. Only when I googled the phone number to call a SEVENTH time did I find out they closed the location we've been going to for 5 years. So very disappointed as we would have happily stayed here if they were actually responsive and notified patients of changes.
We brought our 9-year-old daughter in for a toothache and agreed to have the painful tooth extracted. However, we were told they would not proceed unless we also agreed to cap one additional tooth, which we did not consent to. We felt pressured into additional treatment which we think was unnecessary. We chose to get a second opinion, and after declining the extra treatment, we received a dismissal letter from the practice. Very disappointing experience.
I wish I could give 1000 stars. My daughter suffered a random unexpected medical emergency after her treatment. The staff was absolutely amazing dropping what they were doing to come to her aid. From the Dr who didn't even see her, to the Nurse, to the actual dentist and her assistant to the reception staff. They made sure her vitals and blood sugars were okay made sure we had a private area to get her healthy to leave. She really don't prefer to go to the dentist and when all was said and done she asked if we could switch to this office for everything. YES I will drive the 2 hours every single time with the care and compassion these people showed when they realized the emergency was happening. That says a lot about a dentist office. Thank you for the bottom of our hearts. I wish I had a way to give back to all of you. I know it is your "job" but every single one of you who assisted went above and beyond.
