About UVM Medical Center

UVM Medical Center is a dental practice on Hinesburg Road in South Burlington, Vermont. Oral cancer screening is a standard part of a routine dental checkup — a visual and physical examination of the soft tissues looking for sores, lumps, or patches that have not healed. Early detection is the main reason regular attendance matters even when nothing seems wrong.

A professional cleaning removes the plaque and hardened tartar that brushing and flossing cannot reach, particularly along the gumline, and is the core of routine preventive care. Most people benefit from a cleaning roughly every six months, more often for those managing gum disease.

Affordable care means the practice sets out to make treatment accessible on a self-pay basis or through a payment arrangement, rather than assuming every patient arrives with comprehensive insurance. It is worth asking directly what options exist before assuming a needed treatment is out of reach.

At the core of a general dental practice is preventive and restorative care: checkups, professional cleanings, fillings, and screening for decay and gum disease before either becomes a bigger problem. It is the kind of appointment most people need on a routine schedule rather than only when something hurts.

Continuity matters in dental care — seeing the same practice over time means your history, X-rays, and any patterns in your oral health are already on file, rather than starting from scratch at each visit. That familiarity is part of what a regular dental home offers beyond any single appointment.

Dental anxiety is common, and most practices are used to working with nervous patients — through clear explanations of what is about to happen, a slower pace where needed, and sedation options for patients who want them. Avoiding the dentist out of anxiety tends to make eventual treatment more involved, not less. Blacklisted for missing 1 appointment. No re-scheduling allowed. EVER. Nothing. That's it. Go away forever. VERY UNPROFESSIONAL. No one has ever heard of a policy like this before. I am still in shock. Is this really the policy or am I just special? What person, in their right mind, would make such an abrasive policy like this? Especally if their whole family are good clients too? Jeezum!

Every time I go to my cleaning appointment, I get hounded and harassed to get work done on my teeth. The Dr. came in right away and said, so you are getting a bridge and a crown.? I said no I don't want to be asked anymore. I want my teeth cleaned that's it. Well Chelsea Wells (I called the main office and they said my appointment was with Chelsea) gaslit me by harshly scraping my gums. I told her that hurt and she wasn't doing that to me. She said, if I wasn't going to let her do her job, then I needed to get out. Chelsea pretended to start putting toothpaste on but instead, jabbed me on the other side of my mouth. She did not clean my teeth. What kind of customer service is that?? I'm not going to be their cash cow, so lets be in appropriate.??

I had an intake appointment today and all the staff was very friendly, professional and knowledgeable. I've never had a good experience at any dentist office until now. Dr. Quentin was very helpful and I'm glad I've found this place. I'm driving from Jamaica VT and it's worth it!

Forced a mouth guard onto my teeth, it got stuck and they couldn’t get it off and my tooth has been hurting ever since. Also, make sure to go to this practice when you’re sick, because if you call to reschedule due to illness it will be held against you. As another poster mentioned, it doesn’t matter when you call to cancel/reschedule, it will still count as a strike against.

I’m not usually one to leave reviews but I am definitely one to read reviews and base my decision to go to certain places on said reviews. While this facility had several negative reviews recently, I still decided to go to them and I am beyond pleased that I did! To start, the building and office were bright and clean. I arrived to my initial appointment and filled out the required paperwork that clearly lined out their policies on payments and cancellations alongside my history. I have neglected my teeth over the years and I went into this appointment very nervous about the condition of my teeth and was fearful of commentary and prices. The first assistant that called my name (very timely may I add) and got me seated in a room and did my X-rays was absolutely the nicest/sweetest individual that reassured me that regardless of the condition of my teeth, I was there to get back on track and everything was going to be ok. She really put me at ease right off. I honestly almost cried with relief that I was not being judge in any way. Next, the doctor came in and was also incredibly nice to me before, during and after my exam. He spoke kindly, joked around about music playing and set me up with a plan with a different assistant who also spoke very kindly. Again, I could have cried at the fact that this doctor did not make me feel discouraged about the condition of my teeth and also put me at ease that I was going to be taken care of. The only “negative” thing about this place was that they are booking out a couple of months for treatments BUT… it’s not even really a negative because I chose to stick with the doctor I met today only and he currently is only in office one day a week. Understandable that he would be scheduled out so far. I have no doubt that if any of my teeth became a problem or painful for me that they would get me in and treated as soon as possible. The checkout person was also extremely kind and went over what I can expect to pay for all of my upcoming treatments. Bottom line, if you’re a review reader like me and base your decision to use certain establishments on reviews, I encourage you to still try this dental office. I understand that not all places will be everyone’s cup of tea but I’m extremely happy with my decision to go against reviews and give this office a shot. Thank you to everyone who took care of me today and doing your best with the staffing challenges we face everywhere!
