About Watergate Dental Associates

Watergate Dental Associates operates on Virginia Avenue Northwest in the Northwest Washington area of Washington, District of Columbia. At the core of a general dental practice is preventive and restorative care: checkups, professional cleanings, fillings, and screening for decay and gum disease before either becomes a bigger problem. It is the kind of appointment most people need on a routine schedule rather than only when something hurts.

Dental anxiety is common, and most practices are used to working with nervous patients — through clear explanations of what is about to happen, a slower pace where needed, and sedation options for patients who want them. Avoiding the dentist out of anxiety tends to make eventual treatment more involved, not less.

Children benefit from starting dental visits early, generally by their first birthday or within six months of the first tooth coming through, mainly so they become familiar with the setting before any treatment is actually needed. Establishing that routine early tends to make ongoing checkups far less stressful for both child and parent.

Payment and insurance arrangements vary by practice and by treatment, so it is worth asking directly what is covered and what options exist for anything that is not, rather than assuming either way. Getting that clarified before treatment starts avoids surprises once it is underway.

Beyond any single treatment, most dental visits start with an examination — checking for decay, reviewing the gums, and looking at existing fillings or crowns — often alongside X-rays where there is a reason to look between or beneath teeth. That groundwork is what a dentist uses to explain any findings and set out next steps before you leave.

Routine attendance, roughly every six months for most people, is what actually keeps small problems small. A lot of decay and gum disease develops without any pain in its early stages, which is why regular checkups matter even when nothing seems to be wrong, rather than only booking an appointment once something hurts. I have been a very long-time patient at Watergate Dental Associates. I formerly saw Dr. Kirshbaum and when he retired I began to see Dr. Kreuzer. They have both been thoughtful, wise and kind. It is always a pleasure to enter the office and I always leave with my smile intact and brighter. Marilyn Khoury, VMD,CVA

Dr. Cheng and Ilvia are fantastic. Dr. Cheng was really gentle and took the time to explain what was happening so I never felt rushed or confused, the whole process with her was an absolute breeze. Ilvia was also super supportive and kept making sure I was doing okay, from the second I stepped in answering all my never-ending “overthinking-it” questions. They work so well together. I left feeling relaxed and grateful I found you guys. Also the front desk made everything so smooth. Highly recommend this place!

Dr. Robinson is caring, professional and knowledgeable. She filled one cavity and recommended that I see an endodontist due to an infected tooth that my previous dentist ignored. Her staff is also very kind. I highly recommend her.

I've actually been going here for about 20 years but moved and returned and began seeing Dr. Robinson about 15 years ago. She's amazing and that's the best way to describe her. Her schedule was booked and I wanted an urgent appointment so I saw Dr. Cheng today who was equally as great. I loved her down to earth personally and her workmanship was also exceptional. You can't go wrong with either of these women.

My husband and I have been patients of Dr. Kreuzer for about 20 years—and shame on us for never writing a review sooner! I lived and worked in the DMV area for two decades, and without a doubt, Dr. Kreuzer is the best dentist on the planet. Even after relocating—first to Dallas and later retiring to The Villages, Florida—we still fly back to see him. That’s how much we trust him. After all these years, he feels like family. Rosa, his wonderful assistant, is truly his right hand—always kind, attentive, and professional. Amal, our hygienist, is the best! We always request her for our cleanings because she’s so thorough and gentle. The front office team is also exceptional. They’ve gone above and beyond to fit us in during dental emergencies, patiently answer our insurance questions, and always greet us by name when we walk through the door. We just want to express how lucky we feel to have Watergate Dental Associates taking care of our dental needs all these years. They truly set the gold standard for care and kindness.
