We Care For Kids Dental is a children’s dental practice on Pawtucket Avenue in East Providence, Rhode Island, the practice of Dr. Leslie A. Olton, DMD. The practice is dedicated to the dental care of infants, children, and teenagers.
Children’s dental care covers the routine treatment that keeps young teeth healthy: first dental visits, examinations, professional cleanings, fluoride treatment, dental sealants, and care for tooth decay, along with guidance for parents on brushing, diet, and developing good habits. Early, regular visits help children grow up comfortable with the dentist and let the team monitor each child’s development as the teeth and jaw grow.
A children-focused practice is built around how young patients experience a dental visit, with a patient, age-appropriate approach that helps even nervous children become comfortable with care. The practice also handles urgent dental problems, which is valuable when a child has a sudden toothache or injury.
A first visit keeps explanations age-appropriate for the child and thorough for the parent, so families understand what was found and what comes next.
As with any dental practice, families are encouraged to ask the practice to explain recommended treatment and its cost, and to raise any question or concern so it can be discussed clearly. A steady, familiar dental practice also helps a child feel more comfortable at each visit and builds the habit of regular checkups.
The Pawtucket Avenue location is convenient for East Providence and the surrounding communities.

It is unfortunate that this establishment treats it’s customers the way it does. My kids liked coming here, but they have left a really bad taste in my mouth regarding their billing practices and fees. My daughters first visit to the dentist (I think she was probably 2) went great. She loved the place. The waiting room and exam room is kid oriented. The same day after getting home from the appointment she fell and hit her front tooth. It became discolored and I made an appointment to check if there would be any issues from the trauma to her tooth. Upon leaving the office, the person behind the desk told me that I needed to pay out of pocket as insurance wouldn’t cover the exam since she had just had her exam. I explained to the woman that it wasn’t a normal preventative exam, that it was due to trauma to her tooth. She insisted I would have to pay out of pocket. I explained to her that I had worked in medical billing before and that yes, if they used the same code for a normal exam it would get denied, but that I was certain there should be a separate code for an exam to treat trauma to the tooth and that there is no way I should be paying out of pocket when I have ample insurance. I asked them to bill the insurance and if it was an issue to contact me. We left it at that and I never received a bill, but felt as though they tried to get money from me as they can bill the patient at a higher cost than the insurance would pay. Most recently I needed to cancel my sons appointment and called 22 hours in advance rather than the 24 they required. They advised they would charge me for the late cancellation. I said I was only 2 hours outside the 24 hour window, but no offer to waive it. This is an office who has a waiting list for cancellations because they are booked so far out, so I’m pretty confident they would be able to fill the slot. Perhaps if they had offered to charge me only if they were unable to fill the slot that would have been more reasonable. Now after 4 years and 2 kids, I have decided to take both of my children elsewhere. A place that is truly family friendly that understands the challenges of a busy family life, as this place surely does not.
Dr. Olton is wonderful -- kind, caring, gentle, and knowledgable. We had previously gone to another pediatric dental practice that insisted parents wait outside and was harsh with the children. This practice allows parents to choose whether or not they want to be present. This practice has helped my children learn how to be responsible for their dental health and properly care for their teeth.
I've been taking my children here for a couple years now and love it here. Staff is super friendly and approachable and have made all the diffrence in the world for my son to be able to brave thru a dental visit(something previously almost impossible). I recommend them to any parent i talk to and have gotten both my sister and sister in law to bring there children here. If you have a child who doesn't do well or cancels dental appointments for you on there own terms(lol) or if you have a child who does well at a dental appointment but feel like your not getting the care or attention they deserve elsewhere...bring them to we care for kids dental. 5*s.
This place is great! The doctors and staff truly care about the patients. I too was charged for a cancelled appointment due to my daughter being sick, but I appealed the charge as they explained I could with a doctors note and they removed the charge from my account! I wouldn't take my kids anywhere else.
If I could give it no stars I would. RUN! Don't just walk away from We Care for Kids Dental!!! Some background for you, my oldest has been with this practice for over 15 years, and my youngest for 10 years now. In all that time we were late to a couple of appointments, and dutifully paid the $25 fee whenever we missed them (multiply it times 2, that's $50). In 2016 I was diagnosed with CANCER and completely missed one appointment because it was the same day I got the diagnosis. I had to write a letter, as the doctor wouldn't consider dismissing the late/missed appointment charge until I put it all in writing. Today both of my kids had cleaning appointments, I thought we were 10 minutes early, but it turned out that, according to their records, we were arriving 15 minutes late (on the dot). We were turned away! Never mind that in the past, we have waited in that reception area for over 30 minutes for a cleaning! Standing there in the office I said okay, since this was an honest mistake, and given the fact we have been with the practice for so many years, could you at least forgive the 'late' charges that will accrue on the accounts. We were told to re-schedule and "write a letter to the doctor", so she could then determine whether she would dismiss the 'late' charges. I once again asked if I could at least speak with Dr. Olton, even if I would still be required to write the letter. The office manager (who hasn't been working in that office as long as we have been customers) just stood there and said that 'Dr. Olton was busy with a patient'. I said, that's fine we'll wait. The office manager then said, 'She's going on a break afterward, and won't be able to speak with you'. The office manager then repeated that writing a letter is their "office policy", and apparently the only method of communicating with Dr. Olton, even if WE have been her loyal customers for over 15 years!!! Never mind, that our own time was also wasted driving back and forth to the 'late' show. Not only that, but they couldn't even find my kids after-school appointments for another 7 months! I know dental practices can be rigid, but this is absolutely freaking ridiculous! DON'T GIVE WE CARE FOR KIDS YOUR BUSINESS!!! There's better out there! I transferred my kids' dental records to Pediatric Dentistry Limited. That practice could at least find two after-school appointments for my kids BEFORE next year!
