About We Care For Kids Inc
We Care For Kids Inc provides dental care on Pawtucket Avenue in East Providence, Rhode Island. Pediatric dental care is built around treating children specifically — dentists with additional training in child development and behaviour management, and offices designed to make a first visit unintimidating. Guidance generally points to a child's first dental visit around age one or within six months of the first tooth.
General dentistry covers the routine and restorative care most people need most often — examinations, cleanings, fillings, and preventive checks that catch problems while they are still small and inexpensive to treat. Regular attendance, roughly every six months for most patients, is what makes that early-catch approach actually work.
Left untreated, small dental problems tend not to stay small. A minor cavity that would have been a straightforward filling can progress to needing root canal treatment and a crown, and early gum inflammation that would have reversed with a good cleaning can progress toward bone loss around the teeth. Catching things early is generally the difference in both effort and cost.
Continuity matters in dental care — seeing the same practice over time means your history, X-rays, and any patterns in your oral health are already on file, rather than starting from scratch at each visit. That familiarity is part of what a regular dental home offers beyond any single appointment.
Dental anxiety is common, and most practices are used to working with nervous patients — through clear explanations of what is about to happen, a slower pace where needed, and sedation options for patients who want them. Avoiding the dentist out of anxiety tends to make eventual treatment more involved, not less.
Children benefit from starting dental visits early, generally by their first birthday or within six months of the first tooth coming through, mainly so they become familiar with the setting before any treatment is actually needed. Establishing that routine early tends to make ongoing checkups far less stressful for both child and parent. DO NOT GO HERE!!! they are rude, unprofessional, and handled the situation very poorly. I was ONE minute late. They have a 15 minute window and anyone who knows providence knows how the traffic can get. I called and I said that I was on my way and that I was gonna be 15 minutes late. They said “ you better make it in 15, that’s our window.” and hung up on me. I had an appointment for 3:30. I was there at 3:46 One minute past the grace period As I said I called and I told them that I was on the way… they knew I was coming, but they told me the rules are the rules and they can’t do anything about it. I mean, I understand if I was 20 minutes or 30 minutes late, but they have a 15 minute grace period and because I was 16 minutes they had to reschedule my appointment… I told them that I’m not rescheduling and I’m going to see someone else, that is just unheard of and absolute disgusting business practice. It’s unbelievable.
I have been going to We Care for Kids Dental for many years. I haven't had any bad experiences. I recently had a cavity filled and it went well. No novocaine was used. But Dr.Olton and the hygienists made sure I was comfortable and not in pain. Dr.Olton is kind and very experienced in the Dental practice. And the Dental Hygienist, and receptionists are very helpful, patient and understanding. I would 100% recommend them to families with kids and young adults.
I went in for a cavity treatment and was under the impression they would give me novocaine. However they did not and the dentist told me to “tell her to stop when it started hurting” and that she would stop right away. It started hurting and I made it clear I was in pain but she kept going anyway. Just bear in mind I noticed another family having the same issue (no novocaine for cavity treatment) and it just seems to be a shady part of this facility. Apart from that I never had a problem but that was quite a traumatic dental experience.
My son always has a great experience when he goes. Friendly and understanding
We loved taking our kids here when they were little. It’s a warm, welcoming, and kid-friendly environment with staff who are very caring. We’ve seen Dr. Olton and Dr. Daniels, and they are both fantastic. Now my kids think the dentist is fun! They really helped to set a great foundation for my kids’ life-long dental care habits. I would definitely recommend them to a friend.
Update: Completely poor business practice, that instead of rectifying the situation you now refuse to care for my daughter and state that my previous review (below) was written in a threatening tone when you can see clearly that I was stating facts and handled it in a professional manner regardless of how poorly we were treated. I will gladly find another practice. Nobody should be treated this way from their dentist. Previous review: Like others have already mentioned, the office cancellation policy is completely unjust. I had no choice but to cancel one morning when my daughter woke up sick out of the blue. They tried to charge me for this appointment, and I had to fill out an appeal to get this waived. When our children wake up sick, this is completely beyond our control and should be excused... I'd imagine you don't want a sick child coming to your office exposing other children to sickness as well. Then again.... our most recent appointment left us with no way whatsoever to even get there because the roads near our home were so badly flooded that we couldn't even get onto the highway. Well, because I already appealed one appointment, the office manager said I must pay this one. My daughter likes coming to your office because you cater to children, but you certainly don't cater to their parents especially when things like this happen beyond their control. I've never had a dentist try to charge me for something like this... and if it continues to be an issue I will very quickly find my daughter a new place to go. This is not how you do business.
I was recommended here and I’m glad I was. Today my three and four year old had their first dentist appointment. I was probably more nervous than they were. Let me tell you, the staff was wonderful. They walked both my daughters through the whole process, allowed them to feel the tools and explained what they were doing the entire time. It was a wonderful experience and they did fantastic. Highly recommend!
