Dr. S. Ben Kim, MS, DDS should have a 5 Star rating. Excellent oral surgeon. And he has a great personality. Very patient, soft spoken and friendly. He makes you feel at ease during the procedure. As being an airline pilot and background in construction, I know someone that is an expert at what they do and at using his tools of the trade. Where other dentists in the past have struggled with my tooth extraction when broken and sectioning the tooth as they call it when it doesn't come out all at once, he handles it with ease. He was also very tolerant of me being awake for wisdom extractions as most people are put asleep for those. You will have a great experience with him.
To leave a 5 star review after getting 2 teeth extracted says a lot lol. I was in the worst pain of my life and needed an emergency appointment. I called and they took me in right away. When I walked in Dr.Chu and the entire staff were so kind and helpful they answered all my questions were very informative about what to do and aftercare. The front desk ladies were so nice and I appreciate them being straight up about the price (no hidden fees) and procedure I needed. I was shaking because I was so scared for the extractions but Dr.Chu talked me through the whole thing and helped calm my nerves. Getting teeth pulled is very uncomfortable but given the situation I couldn’t have asked for a better experience. Thank you thank you thank you !!!!!!
I would have given them a good review, but they “closed for maintenance’ without notice and left me with a temporary crown and no response. I had my temporary crown placed at the end of December. I paid for my whole procedure upfront and was waiting for my permanent crown when they closed for maintenance. Nobody has returned my calls or emails.
I felt so unwelcomed with this practice. I made an appointment on-line after closing hours. I received a message that I can call because they had several openings. I called them to set an appointment. The person who took my information stated that they only take PPO, which I have however never stated that my plan was out of pocket. I give them my information and inadvertently gave them my medical number. I was told to call my provider and verify if it was PPO. I verified that it was indeed PPO but it was confusing due to my Medical/Dental card are one. I called back and I stated that was the individual who called previously. "Oh, yes, who is your insurance provider?" Once again, I stated the name. This time, I was quickly told, rudely, that they can see but I have to pay "full" price because my plan was out of network. I understand that doctors go in and out of network providers but being rude is not acceptable. This is one group that I will tell friends and family not to ever use. I wish I didn't have to give a star at all.
The secretary at the front desk is not a people person, which is surprising since that role usually requires someone welcoming and approachable. The vibe felt weird and uneasy from the start, which set the tone for the visit. The dental assistant was cool, though I forgot his name. Dr. Chu came across as someone just there to clock in and clock out. I was planning to have my wisdom teeth removed, but they have not ruptured yet and are partially impacted in my jawbone. This office only offers local anesthesia, meaning you will remain fully awake and aware during the procedure. As someone with high anxiety, I absolutely need IV sedation, especially if they will be going into my bone. I ended up finding another office that not only provides IV sedation but also charges less. Ultimately, I chose not to move forward here because of the lack of empathy, the off-putting secretary, and the absence of sedation options. If you’re an anxious person and find yourself in a similar situation to mine, then this probably isn’t the place for you.
