I had gone here a few times before my most recent visit (a cleaning) and unfortunately got a new (to me) hygienist, Justice, and the more I think back on my appointment, the more uncomfortable I feel. If a patient doesn’t seem like they want to make small talk (gives short answers, etc), don’t push it and just stick to asking about their teeth. Don’t continue to push and pry about weekend and holiday plans, etc. Sometimes people just don’t have much going on for one reason or another (maybe there’s a complicated family or relationship situation, etc), and being forced to admit to no real plans for a holiday weekend to a total stranger isn’t the experience one wants to have at the dentist. (Instead of “What are you doing for __(holiday)?” as if it’s a given that you’ll have plans, try asking “Doing anything for __?” or simply just not asking at all.) While he was very friendly about it, it was intrusive and unwanted. I also received a ton of unsolicited advice about tooth care that went on for about 15 minutes. This is somewhat typical for a cleaning appointment, but he took it to extremes. Generally my teeth are in good shape and I know what I should be doing, and don’t like being held captive in a chair and forced to listen to lectures. While also being interrogated about my personal life! It was honestly way more small talk than I’d ever made with a dental hygienist in my life. We can just be quiet unless you need to ask me about my teeth! I don’t think I can go back to this office (even though the actual dentist herself is great) because I don’t want to experience that visit ever again.
To be fair, I waited over a month before writing this review. I visited Wellness Dental last Month because my previous dentist no longer accepts my insurance. I have a history of periodontal disease and had deep cleaning four years ago, followed by regular 3-month maintenance. My condition has been stable. During my visit, the dentist at Wellness reviewed my X-rays and told me I had two areas of build-up and needed another deep cleaning. I was quoted $618 and scheduled for treatment. My gum pocket measurements were recorded as 4–6 mm. This didn’t feel right to me, so I decided to get a second opinion. I went back to my previous dentist, who said my condition was well-maintained and did not require deep cleaning. I visited another in-network dentist this month. Their exam showed pocket depths mostly 2–3 mm, and the build-up seen on X-ray was minor and easily removed with surface/topical numbing gel. Total cost: $65. The hygienist explained that although I have some bone loss, my gums are stable and well maintained, and deep cleaning is not necessary. Based on these experiences, I felt the recommendation at Wellness Dental may have been excessive. Also, my teeth were unusually sensitive for about two weeks after the visit from Wellness Dental, which was not typical for me. I’m glad I chose to seek a second opinion.
Dr. Johnson and her staff are amazing, I have a ton of dental issues and she’s addressed them head on with skill and professionalism, and has worked with me financially. Thanks to everyone there!
I love this dentist they're very kind and sweet. I feel very comfortable going there and I'm very blessed to have found it.
I’m 57 and Dr. Johnson is absolutely the best dentist I’ve ever utilized. She and her staff do all they can to make you feel comfortable and never try to sell you on services I don’t need. On the business end, prices have always felt very reasonable. I also take my elderly mother, who has dementia, to see her. Dr. Johnson and staff are supremely patient and caring with her. It makes me feel so safe and comfortable to have my family in Dr. Johnson’s care.
I’ve been coming to this office for years, and I can’t say enough good things about Dr. Johnson and the entire team. Everyone is welcoming, professional, and truly cares about their patients. Kari always does my cleanings, and she is consistently thorough, professional, and a pleasure to work with. Going to the dentist is rarely anyone’s favorite thing, but this office genuinely makes it a pleasant experience every time.
This is the best dentist I’ve ever been to - I was met with kindness and empathy and not a trace of judgement or shame. It’s apparent that the staff + Dr. Giple-Johnson really cares about their patients and I recommend Wellness Dental to everyone, especially those with dental anxiety, because we all deserve to have a dentist who truly cares.
