About West Coast Oral Surgery

Based on Erma Road in the Scripps Ranch area of San Diego, California, West Coast Oral Surgery is a dental practice serving the area. Wisdom teeth are removed when they are impacted, repeatedly infected, decayed, or damaging the tooth in front, since they arrive last and often into a jaw with no room left. Not every wisdom tooth needs to come out — one that erupts cleanly and can be kept clean is often left alone.

Continuity matters in dental care — seeing the same practice over time means your history, X-rays, and any patterns in your oral health are already on file, rather than starting from scratch at each visit. That familiarity is part of what a regular dental home offers beyond any single appointment.

Dental anxiety is common, and most practices are used to working with nervous patients — through clear explanations of what is about to happen, a slower pace where needed, and sedation options for patients who want them. Avoiding the dentist out of anxiety tends to make eventual treatment more involved, not less.

Children benefit from starting dental visits early, generally by their first birthday or within six months of the first tooth coming through, mainly so they become familiar with the setting before any treatment is actually needed. Establishing that routine early tends to make ongoing checkups far less stressful for both child and parent.

Payment and insurance arrangements vary by practice and by treatment, so it is worth asking directly what is covered and what options exist for anything that is not, rather than assuming either way. Getting that clarified before treatment starts avoids surprises once it is underway.

Beyond any single treatment, most dental visits start with an examination — checking for decay, reviewing the gums, and looking at existing fillings or crowns — often alongside X-rays where there is a reason to look between or beneath teeth. That groundwork is what a dentist uses to explain any findings and set out next steps before you leave. This page has the practice's contact details and full service list. Frequently Asked Questions

Where is West Coast Oral Surgery located in San Diego?
West Coast Oral Surgery is on Erma Road in the Scripps Ranch area of San Diego, California (92131).
What days is West Coast Oral Surgery open?
West Coast Oral Surgery is open Monday through Friday. Contact the practice through this page to confirm current appointment times before travelling.
What services does West Coast Oral Surgery offer?
Listed services at West Coast Oral Surgery include Wisdom Teeth Removal. The full list is shown on this page.
What age is best to have wisdom teeth taken out?
Late teens to early twenties is often easier, because the roots are less fully formed and bone is more forgiving, so healing tends to be quicker. Removal is still routinely done later when there is a reason for it.
Why do wisdom teeth cause problems?
They arrive last, often into a jaw with no room left, so they become impacted or come through at an angle. Partly erupted wisdom teeth are also very difficult to clean, which is why they are prone to repeated infection and decay.
Why do dentists take X-rays?
Decay between teeth and problems below the gumline are invisible to the naked eye, so X-rays are what reveal them. Modern digital images use a low dose and are taken only when clinically justified.

I really can’t thank Dr. Matin enough. I came to him after two botched bone grafts and he got me back on track and healing well. I still have some healing time ahead of me, but it’s actually healing now and I have a positive direction. Thank you to Dr. Matin and his crew at West Coast Oral Surgery.

Got all 4 wisdom teeth operated out! Dr Matin is fantastic and the staff/ nurses are amazing! The nurses were fun to chill with before the doc walked in for surgery; they gave me plenty of time to calm my nerves.

I recently had an incomplete extraction on a lower molar by another dentist which was causing pain and would never have healed. Dr. Matin was confident he could make the necessary surgical repairs, taking out additional bone and bone fragments that were never removed during the original extraction. Dr. Matin and his entire team provided excellent care during the initial examination, surgery, and post op. I am now healing up quickly and cannot be more grateful to West Coast Surgery. They have greatly improved my quality of life. Betty Miller

Could not be happier with my experience. While having a tooth extraction is not high on my list of fun activities, the entire staff did everything possible to make it better. The doctor and staff listened to my concerns. I appreciate their attitude and professionalism.

One week post wisdom teeth removal and doing great! I was quite afraid of this procedure and put it off until I felt some aching. I was able to get a consultation pretty quickly and the surgery followed not long after. The team’s wonderful and the healing process has also been pretty good (better compared to my friends according to them). Minimal swelling and pain.

They removed an upper-rear molar quickly and painlessly. The staff was friendly and quietly effecient. Instructions for pre and post surgery were comprehensive and clear. I was pain free and had no difficulties or inconveniences in the following days. A very well done proceedure and I would have no problems with recommending their services.

If you’re looking for an oral surgeon, I have to tell you that West Coast Oral Surgery is the place to go. I had (4) of my wisdom teeth extracted from here over 15 years ago, my son 3 years ago, along with my godson 1 year ago & now just this last week my daughter!! Each time I’ve made the first phone call to walking in the doors, I’ve always felt comfortable and confident, my case was carefully looked at especially my daughter who needed a CT scan due to the nerves being wrapped around the roots of her tooth…. My daughter was very nervous but Dr. Matin & Jessica took the time to walk through every step of the procedure with clarity and care, which really helped reduce her fear and made her feel safe and supported. Setting up the surgery date was not too far out after our initial consultation. They are amazing professionals, I recommend an incredible experience at West Coast Oral Surgery, and I can’t recommend Dr. Matin enough. Thank you!
