About West Valley Pediatric Dentistry

Under-the-sea is the theme, sharks included, and it is not decoration for its own sake — a child hunting for the next fish is not bracing for the chair. West Valley Pediatric Dentistry has been at 2964 West 4700 South since 2010, in a suite just off one of the valley's busier east-west arterials, on the Taylorsville and West Valley boundary a few minutes south of Valley Fair Mall. Dr. Samuel Bailey is a board-certified pediatric dentist, meaning he completed a specialty residency beyond dental school and then passed the board examination, a distinction general practices that also see children do not carry.

The first appointment is weighted toward assessment and habit-building. Expect a full exam, a cleaning, fluoride, and digital radiographs where they are indicated. The practice also lists overall health assessments, which in pediatric dentistry means looking past the teeth at growth, airway, diet and the habits that shape a developing bite. What you should get is specifics rather than generalities: which molars need sealing, where plaque is actually accumulating, whether a thumb habit has started to move the front teeth.

Early orthodontics is offered here as well. That phrase covers space maintainers when a baby molar is lost too soon, habit appliances, and short interceptive phases to correct a crossbite before the jaw finishes growing. It does not mean a full set of braces on a seven-year-old. Most children screened early need nothing beyond yearly monitoring, and a practice willing to say so is worth more than one that finds a reason to start treatment.

The schedule is generous by children's-office standards: 8:00 to 5:00 Monday through Thursday and 8:00 to 1:00 Friday, with the office closing for roughly an hour at midday. Confirm that midday break when you book anything close to 1:00. The location makes sense for families in Taylorsville, West Valley City and Kearns; from the east bench there are closer options. If your child is anxious, say so on the phone rather than at check-in, because a visit built around a nervous child is scheduled differently.

Dr. Samuel Bailey's children's practice has sat on 4700 South, on the Taylorsville and West Valley line, since 2010. He is a board-certified pediatric dentist, and the under-the-sea office covers preventive care, cleanings and exams, fluoride, digital X-rays, dental hygiene and early orthodontics such as space maintainers and habit appliances. Open 8:00 to 5:00 Monday through Thursday, and mornings on Friday.

Frequently Asked Questions

My child is seven. Is that too early to be looking at braces?
It is the right age to be looked at, not necessarily the right age to start. Early orthodontics covers the narrow set of problems worth catching while the jaw is still growing: a crossbite, a thumb habit pushing the front teeth out, a baby molar lost too soon. Most children screened at seven need nothing beyond a yearly check, and being told that is a good result rather than a wasted visit.
My child is frightened of the dentist. What actually helps before the appointment?
Say so when you book rather than at check-in. A visit planned around an anxious child gets more chair time and a slower start, and neither is easy to improvise on the day. At home, keep your own description short and neutral, because children read a parent's tone far more closely than the words. The under-the-sea room does some of the work too; a child counting sharks is not bracing for the chair.
When is the office open, and is there a midday closure?
The practice runs 8:00 to 5:00 Monday through Thursday and 8:00 to 1:00 on Friday at 2964 West 4700 South. It also closes for about an hour around midday, so confirm the exact break when you are booking an appointment near lunchtime. Morning slots before school and the last hour of the afternoon go first, and Friday only offers the morning half of the day.

We have been coming here for years! I’ll never forget our first visit, my son was previously extremely anxious and refused to sit in the chair; it was so hard! But when we switched to this office, he was able to sit through an entire visit. I’ve been pleased with the results, and my children have felt comfortable asking questions. I’ve recommended them to people who have asked for recommendations.

We are fairly new to this clinic but from the very beginning I knew my little guy was in great hands. Wonderfully friendly staff. Well educated and very personable. Trusting in people to take care of your little ones is hard and for all teeth related things these guy are wonderful.

I have nothing but amazing things to say about West Valley Pediatric Dentistry, Dr. Bailey and every one of their staff I have had the pleasure of working with over the past 2 years! My daughter has a very complex medical history and it has caused multiple dental issues. We were seeing another dentist in Utah County closer to my home that was suggesting some very aggressive dental procedures. Dr. Bailey was a second opinion from a friend of mine so I thought I would see if he had the same suggestions for my daughter. Dr. Bailey and his staff had so much more knowledge and were so much nicer and softer in their approach with the treatment plan. They have done multiple procedures on my daughter at this point and everything has gone so smoothly and I really trust them and that they aren’t doing unnecessary work. I have sent some extended family to this office for second opinions as well, and their the agree that it is just a much better fit and they feel like everyone in the office only wants what’s best for their patients! My daughter won’t be going anywhere else! Billing has also been a breeze! Deann is so great to work with! Thank you to everyone in the office for giving my daughter the best experiences in your office, she looks forward to her visits! 10/10 ⭐️
