Westport Family Dental

Staff was nice but it didn’t seem very organized. My first appointment I had X-rays etc done followed by a cleaning. Had to wait for about 10-15mins between because they hadn’t let the hygienist doing my cleaning know I was ready, no biggie stuff happens and the cleaning went well. Went back for a double route canal and it didn’t go great. It takes a lot for me to be numb and not in pain ( to which I did give them a heads up about before starting any work ) but they couldn’t find the numbing agent they needed as I sat for around 5min while they looked for it. The file ended up breaking off in my tooth and they weren’t able to retrieve it so I got a referral to someone who could (it was wildly more expensive). Originally I went here bc I heard they were lgbtq+ friendly which might be the case but I didn’t really get that vibe. Overall not a bad place but there is def room for improvement. In the end I found a different office that fixed the tooth with the broken file in it at a fraction of the cost the place I was referred to quoted me. Generally don’t leave reviews on places especially ones that aren’t above and beyond bc everyone has off days and things happen. I have no hard feelings towards them and personality wise everyone was great, it just wasn’t the level of care I was looking for unfortunately. I’d say 2.5 out of 5 but I’ll round up to a 3

Add someone who is terrified of the dentist, and had been avoiding it for years, I felt so much more comfortable in this space. Dr. Smitka and Vonnie never made me feel guilty or afraid for the state of my teeth, and I walked away from my first appointment already feeling tangible improvement. (And booked 3 more!!) Could not recommend enough.

I found Westport Dental to be excellent. They assessed my needs, explained them thoroughly and what my insurance would cover. I was offered options but I was left to decide what was best for me. I highly recommend them.

Had a wonderful experience as you possibly could when your in your head and really anxious about going to the dentist office thinking the worse going in. Denise was very helpful and was recepted to my concerns definitely easing my anxiety while performing her duties very professionally. Thank you.

From the front desk receptionist, the dental Hygienist and especially Dr. Symtka, the office is top notch. I’m a retired government employee living in the Westport midtown area and I consider myself very fortunate that the Westport Family Dental office is available. 5 out of 5 stars!

I didn’t have a great experience here. There are many reasons why people have gaps in dental care (for me it’s anxiety), and it’s hard to schedule once you’ve been away and know you need to go back. Instead of greeting me or asking how I was, Dr Smitka said, “I see you’ve not been in in a handful of years.” Correct but also maybe not the kindest way to greet someone who despite anxiety showed up in an effort to move forward with her dental care? I finished the consult and left, dug into reviews online, and I chose a practice up north which has been helpful, welcoming, and with no shame or judgment. At our first meeting, that dentist said, “What matters is that you’re here now.” It was a relief to feel seen and supported. Westport Family Dental is not a spot I’d choose if you’ve had a gap in dental care due to anxiety, finances, lack of insurance (or whatever else that might need some extra sensitivity and understanding).

I’m someone who’s pretty anxious about going to the dentist and I had quite a few fixes that needed done. They made me feel comfortable and welcome every time I went in. I mostly spoke with Gina at the front desk and she’s a very sweet woman and she remembered my name every time I came in, and all the workers are really kind and patient. I had a lot of questions and they answered every one. They were also really efficient and patient when I needed more numbing. I’ve had a lot of bad experiences going to the dentist but this was definitely not one of them :)

Today was my first visit, and it was the best dental cleaning I’ve had in years. My teeth feel incredibly clean and fresh. Tara did an outstanding job. She was thorough, detail oriented, and took her time to make sure nothing was missed. Dr. Smitka was knowledgeable, attentive, and very kind. He identified a couple of cavities that my previous dentist had missed just a few months ago. Overall, I’m extremely pleased with the experience and would highly recommend this office.
