About White Oak Family Dentistry

White Oak Family Dentistry runs a practice on Oxmoor Road in the Homewood-adjacent corridor between Birmingham proper and the inner suburbs. The patient base is the surrounding Oxmoor Valley community — Homewood, Vestavia Hills, and Mountain Brook residents who use the corridor for everyday errands and value a dentist within easy driving distance of home.

Filling work covers the routine general-dentistry range. The team uses tooth-colored composite as the default material, handling single-surface fillings, multi-surface restorations on larger cases, replacement fillings when older work has failed, and the diagnostic call between filling and crown when tooth structure has been compromised. Beyond fillings, services include cleanings and exams, root canals, crowns and bridges, extractions, gum-disease screening, and emergency dental visits. They'll review prior X-rays when patients bring records from a previous dentist, which gives the diagnostic call more context than starting fresh.

If you've been with the same Homewood-area dentist for years and they retired or moved, finding a new practice that handles your existing chart smoothly matters more than starting completely over.

Patients searching for dentist accepting new patients in Birmingham, AL, family dentist in Birmingham, or family dental practice in Birmingham who live in Homewood, Vestavia Hills, or south Birmingham often weigh practices like this one for the corridor convenience. White Oak fits that pattern. The new-patient exam combines comprehensive radiographs, periodontal screening, and a treatment-plan review before any restorative work is scheduled. For Oxmoor-corridor families picking a regular general dental practice, this Oxmoor Road office is a reasonable first appointment. It's worth asking whether the practice files insurance directly or expects payment up front and reimbursement separately, because the answer materially shifts how much you pay out of pocket on the visit day. For patients who grind their teeth or notice signs of nighttime clenching, flagging it at the new-patient exam matters more than most realize, since wear patterns affect filling material choices and crown planning over time.

What days is White Oak Family Dentistry open?
White Oak Family Dentistry is open Monday through Thursday. Contact the practice through this page to confirm current appointment times before travelling.
What services does White Oak Family Dentistry offer?
Listed services at White Oak Family Dentistry include Cosmetic Dentistry, Root Canal Treatment, Emergency Dentistry, Dental Crowns and Dental Bridges. The full list is shown on this page.
How long does a filling take?
A straightforward filling is usually done within a single appointment of roughly twenty minutes to an hour, depending on the size of the cavity and where the tooth sits. Larger repairs on back teeth take longer than small ones at the front.
Do fillings hurt?
The procedure itself is normally done under local anaesthetic, so you should feel pressure rather than pain. Some sensitivity to hot and cold in the days afterward is common and usually settles on its own.
Why do my gums bleed when the hygienist cleans my teeth?
Bleeding during a cleaning almost always points to inflammation in the gums rather than to rough technique. Gums that are healthy do not generally bleed. The encouraging part is that early gum inflammation is reversible once the build-up causing it is removed.

Today was my first visit and everyone was so kind! Such a nice building and sweet staff. 10/10 experience coming from someone who is very nervous about trying new dentists!

Dr. Gray is PHENOMENAL!!! He is a great dentist who cares, is thorough, kind, remembers what you tells him, and even asks about your kids. He doesn’t push anything onto you and will walk with you through hard decisions. Can’t sing his praises enough.

Dr. Nathan Gray is outstanding! At my request, he removed 5 amalgam fillings (which contain mercury) that I’ve had for years, & replaced them with resin-based composite fillings. He did a very thorough job and carefully followed the recommended protocol for the removal of toxic mercury. Add to this, he is a very graceful and kind dentist and person … often asking if the procedure is causing any pain. So I would highly recommend him for this and any dental procedure. Also, all of his staff are also very gracious and helpful.

My daughter recommended White Oak very highly so I trusted them. The staff and dentists at White Oak dentistry are so helpful and kind. Maggie, the receptionist, was able to get me an appointment very quickly and made me feel very welcome. Sheila was kind and made me feel comfortable. Dr. Nate was very personable and did a great job of reassuring me that my dental plan was right on target. Thank you so much White Oak staff!

I really appreciate Nate and his fabulous staff for getting me in today unexpectedly. I had a temporary crown put in the other day and I accidentally flossed it out not thinking what I was doing and He got me in ASAP to put it back in. It’s always a pleasure going in and seeing them. Not many people would say going to the dentist is a pleasure but it is. Thanks guys!

I hadn’t seen a dentist in over 10 years thanks to past horror stories, but Dr. Nate completely changed that. He’s hands down the most skilled, professional dentist I’ve ever met, and his team was on point the whole time. They offer so many services which saves you many trips and headaches. They explained everything, walked me through pricing (a first!), and fixed all my teeth—they look and feel amazing. Bonus: Dr. Nate’s also a Tolkien fan, so honestly, that sealed the deal. 10/10, would recommend to anyone with teeth.

Genuinely the sweetest people at this office. I even had to stop my apt for a work call and they were so understanding. Very easy to schedule with and very open to questions. Highly recommend!
