About Whole Health Dentistry

Whole Health Dentistry provides dental care on State Street in the Upper East area of Santa Barbara, California. Holistic, or biological, dentistry applies standard dental diagnosis and treatment within an approach that emphasises material choice and conservative treatment, considering oral health as connected to the body more broadly rather than treating the mouth in isolation.

Dental anxiety is common, and most practices are used to working with nervous patients — through clear explanations of what is about to happen, a slower pace where needed, and sedation options for patients who want them. Avoiding the dentist out of anxiety tends to make eventual treatment more involved, not less.

Children benefit from starting dental visits early, generally by their first birthday or within six months of the first tooth coming through, mainly so they become familiar with the setting before any treatment is actually needed. Establishing that routine early tends to make ongoing checkups far less stressful for both child and parent.

Payment and insurance arrangements vary by practice and by treatment, so it is worth asking directly what is covered and what options exist for anything that is not, rather than assuming either way. Getting that clarified before treatment starts avoids surprises once it is underway.

Beyond any single treatment, most dental visits start with an examination — checking for decay, reviewing the gums, and looking at existing fillings or crowns — often alongside X-rays where there is a reason to look between or beneath teeth. That groundwork is what a dentist uses to explain any findings and set out next steps before you leave.

Routine attendance, roughly every six months for most people, is what actually keeps small problems small. A lot of decay and gum disease develops without any pain in its early stages, which is why regular checkups matter even when nothing seems to be wrong, rather than only booking an appointment once something hurts. Frequently Asked Questions

Where is Whole Health Dentistry located in Santa Barbara?
Whole Health Dentistry is on State Street in the Upper East area of Santa Barbara, California (93101).
What days is Whole Health Dentistry open?
Whole Health Dentistry is open Tuesday through Friday. Contact the practice through this page to confirm current appointment times before travelling.
What services does Whole Health Dentistry offer?
Listed services at Whole Health Dentistry include Holistic Dentistry. The full list is shown on this page.
Is biological or holistic dentistry more expensive?
It can be, since ceramic and composite materials and more conservative techniques sometimes cost more than the cheapest alternative. Pricing varies by practice, so it is worth asking directly rather than assuming.
Are holistic dentists still trained in regular dentistry?
Yes. A holistic practice is a licensed dental practice that has chosen a particular philosophy around materials and conservative treatment — it is not a separate qualification, and standard diagnosis and treatment still apply.
How can I look after my teeth between appointments?
Brushing twice a day with fluoride toothpaste and cleaning between the teeth daily covers most of it. Limiting how often sugary food and drink appear through the day matters more than the total amount consumed.

Hands down the best dentist I have ever encountered. Very kind, compassionate, and a fast, seamless dentistry experience. Dr. Copeland completed my extraction before I could say Whole Health Dentistry! She has saved my life twice now! Thank you infinitely!

I had an a very good experience with Dr. Copeland and the entire team from the moment I arrived. I came in for a 2nd opinion. The staff was welcoming, professional and attentive. Dr. Copeland took the time to explain every step of the procedure that was needed. Answered all of my questions and made sure I felt comfortable throughout the visit.

What an awesome experience to be in the care of this amazing team of loving professionals! Dr. Copeland, Lacee , Amelia and Karen were and are of great support throughout my whole journey of getting my teeth, mouth and health to what it is meant to be. I feel so fortunate to have found them. I feel confident as we progress with this path of healing, that I am in good hands and also cared for with compassion. I am grateful for being a part of their lives and my healing journey.

My experience with Dr. Copeland and Lacee was absolutely exceptional. I came into my appointment with a lot of anxiety and apprehension. What actually unfolded was a pain free, totally compassionate experience with outstanding results. Not only was I treated kindly, but the kind, professional relationship between Dr Copeland and Lacee was wonderful. I cannot recommend Whole Health Dentistry enough.

I cannot recommend Whole Health Dentistry enough. Dr. Copeland, Lacee and team are beyond what I could have hoped for both in terms of both kindness and care. Special shoutout to the front of house, Karen, who is incredible as well. I have never felt such a sense of calm in a dentist office before. I’m a postpartum, breastfeeding mom, with past dental trauma who spent a decade evading dentistry of any kind. Never once did I feel embarrassed for the work I needed done, and it’s been empowering to have this incredible team of women change my mind about dentistry as a whole. If you’re anxiously reading reviews like I did before coming, my best advice would be to go. You’re worth it, and the care you’ll receive is worth every penny.

I came to Dr. Copeland and Whole Health Dentistry after meeting a patient of theirs who FLIES IN for appointments after moving away. I had been seeking a dentist I could trust my teeth with for a while and I ran in for an appointment after that endorsement. Dr. Copeland and her team have been nothing but competent, patient, informative, and gentle with me. My teeth are looking and feeling great. Highly recommended.
