Switching to this dental office has made such a positive impact on my life and I’m being completely real, not exaggerated, when I say that. Every experience I’ve had here, with the dentist, dental hygienists, & receptionists, has been smooth. Everyone is beyond kind, the views from the exam chair are gorgeous (truly natural scenery rather than a loud cityscape), & the staff are confident in their work and knowledge. The life-changing part about becoming a dental patient here has been the ability to sleep better than I have in over 10 years – thanks to a dental team that listens to my concerns and recommends/provides the necessary tools to address those concerns. Thank you, Wichita Family Dental (West), for everything so far – I look forward to seeing you at my routine 6 month check-ups!
I've been going here for a while now, I won't go anywhere else. Used to hate getting cleanings but Gentry is amazing and takes great care of my teeth.
I originally left a positive review after my first visit, but after everything I’ve been through, especially after this most recent event, it was so upsetting that I feel the need to warn others. Before moving back to Kansas, I had a bonded permanent retainer from Oklahoma that lasted five years without a single issue. In September 2024, when it finally broke and began cutting my mouth, I sought emergency care and paid $300 for a new retainer they recommended. In January 2025, I scheduled a cleaning at the West location to establish care. Courtney and Dr. Meyer were both wonderful, kind, patient, and very understanding of my dental anxiety, and that experience gave me confidence in this practice. However, during that same cleaning, the permanent retainer, placed only four months earlier, lifted and partially broke, no longer covering all of my teeth. The cleaning was very gentle, which made this unexpected, especially compared to years of more intensive cleanings I had with my previous retainer in Oklahoma. It immediately made me question the quality of the retainer. I was scheduled for a follow-up two days later. At that appointment, the orthodontic team acknowledged the retainer was broken and no longer covered all teeth, but refused to replace it unless I paid another $300. Instead, they glued it back down and provided a plastic retainer as a “backup.” The impression was taken while the broken wire was still attached, meaning it was molded around the damaged retainer and would not function properly. This defeated the purpose of paying for a permanent retainer and left me with something that was never properly fixed. My experience worsened during a filling appointment performed by a different dentist I had never met. Despite clearly explaining my dental anxiety, my concerns were ignored. There was no reassurance or acknowledgment. The drilling became extremely painful. I was visibly struggling, yet no adjustments were made. While still numb, I was instructed to bite down and ended up biting the inside of my cheek, causing swelling and ongoing sensitivity. In May 2026, the same compromised retainer failed again and began cutting my mouth. I returned expecting a reasonable resolution to an issue that had not been properly addressed. Instead, I was told my options were to pay another $300 for a replacement or $80 just to temporarily fix it. I then asked to have it removed entirely and was told that would also cost $80. That was the moment I completely broke down emotionally. The hygienist went to speak with the doctor and returned repeating the same options, adding that they could refer me elsewhere. I did not have time to be referred somewhere else, I needed immediate relief and had taken time off work for this appointment. She even suggested I go to another provider to remove it for free. At this point while crying, I asked if I had done something wrong or why I was being treated this way, but received no acknowledgment or response. That is when I decided to have it removed completely so I no longer have to deal with this practice AND for immediate relief. There was no realistic option to leave and try somewhere else the same day while I was in pain. The hygienist immediately stated that someone would come in to collect payment before the procedure even took place. A staff member entered the room with a card reader while I was still sitting in the chair, visibly crying. She handed me the device for a quick signature. After signing, she asked if I had completed it and then responded with an upbeat “OK!” before walking out as if nothing had happened. When the dentist entered, there was no acknowledgment whatsoever that I was visibly upset. The removal itself took only seconds, and removing the remaining glue took no more than two minutes. There was no empathy, no apology, and no accountability. The entire experience felt humiliating and predatory as if I had been reduced to nothing more than a payment rather than a patient in pain. I strongly encourage anyone to stay away. I have also filed a complaint with the BBB.
Usually, I have a great experience with this practice. However, now they are trying to charge me an exorbitant amount for a cleaning that they told me was fully covered under insurance. I’ve been loyal to them for years and they refuse to budge at all. Be cautious when making an appointment here and make sure to keep all of your paperwork.
Amazing experience! Great communication. I have some anxiety when it comes to dental visits. But they genuinely showed me kindness. They showed compassion when I told them about the poor experiences I’ve have in the past. They listened to what I had to say and made me feel comfortable and confident in their medical advice. I’ll never go anywhere else. Special thanks to Lauren
Will never return. Having their estimate in hand revealed how much lying these people really do. And not just on paper, straight to your face. Over priced to begin with but to lie to me over 25$, i will never let them over charge me or my insurance again. Keep in mind, this was not my first visit. My wife, kids, all of us have been going there for a few years now. (Not any more) And no matter how many of their employees write up a glowing review, it won't change the fact that they will do whatever they can to squeeze you and your insurance, and then lie about it.
Wonderful experience! Kathy is so nice and professional. Lexi is a star too. Mike is the unsung hero lurking in the shadows. Nikki wraps it all up in a bow. Great team! 5/5
I am new to Wichita and have only ever had one other dentist my entire life. I was hesitant but loved this place! It was clean, professional, and the place itself was very nice. Lauren was so sweet and seemed like an old friend! Definitely recommend and will be back!
