About Willamette Valley Periodontics

Willamette Valley Periodontics provides dental care on Southwest 2nd Street in McMinnville, Oregon. Periodontics is the specialty focused on the gums and the bone supporting the teeth, handling more advanced gum disease, related surgical treatment, and — in many practices — dental implant placement, which sits naturally alongside that training.

Routine attendance, roughly every six months for most people, is what actually keeps small problems small. A lot of decay and gum disease develops without any pain in its early stages, which is why regular checkups matter even when nothing seems to be wrong, rather than only booking an appointment once something hurts.

A first appointment at a new practice typically covers a full examination, a review of your dental and medical history, and a professional cleaning, with X-rays if you do not have recent ones. It is also a reasonable time to raise any longer-term concerns, cosmetic or otherwise, so they can be factored into a plan going forward.

Day-to-day oral health still comes down to the basics between visits — brushing twice daily with fluoride toothpaste, cleaning between the teeth, and limiting how often sugary food and drink appear through the day matters more than the total amount eaten at once. Regular professional care is what catches whatever those habits do not.

Digital X-rays are a routine part of dental care because they show what a visual exam alone cannot — decay forming between teeth, bone loss below the gumline, and how developing adult teeth are positioned in children. They use a low radiation dose and are taken on a schedule matched to individual risk rather than at every single visit.

Left untreated, small dental problems tend not to stay small. A minor cavity that would have been a straightforward filling can progress to needing root canal treatment and a crown, and early gum inflammation that would have reversed with a good cleaning can progress toward bone loss around the teeth. Catching things early is generally the difference in both effort and cost. What is gum recession and can it be treated?
Recession is when gum tissue pulls back and exposes more of the tooth root, often from aggressive brushing, gum disease, or grinding. Grafting procedures can cover exposed roots, though how well that works depends on the extent of the recession.
When should I see a periodontist instead of a general dentist?
Usually on referral, when gum disease has advanced beyond what routine treatment is resolving — deep pockets, ongoing bone loss, or gum recession needing surgical management.
How can I look after my teeth between appointments?
Brushing twice a day with fluoride toothpaste and cleaning between the teeth daily covers most of it. Limiting how often sugary food and drink appear through the day matters more than the total amount consumed.

I had a very good experience here. All times I went in every single person. There was so overly friendly and made me feel so welcome. On the day of my procedure I expressed how nervous I was and each person helped ease my mind. I was very grateful for them.

Dr. and staff did every thing possible to ensure comfort. Also, very attentive to pain management with the results being pain free. They totally ensure through conversation that you are aware of all pre and post operative needs and care... Thank you so much! I was very apprehensive. However, in the end I was happy to have been your patient.

Welcoming, professional, and friendly staff (Kelsey, Kahra, and Kathy). Dr. Graser was wonderful, and he inspired confidence with his knowledge, attention to detail, explanation of treatment options, and what to expect going forward. I felt cared for and valued. As an older patient, I have had many interactions with dental professionals, and this was exceptional.

Dr Graser and his staff are amazing!! I needed a free gingival graft and Dr Graser was recommended by my regular dentist. His office got me in right away to do xrays, pictures and measurements. Based on their findings I needed a small graft - Dr Graser explained the procedure in detail and I left his office knowing the full cost and with an appointment to have it done. The actual procedure took less than a 1/2 hour and with minimal discomfort. Dr Graser called back later that day to find out how I was feeling, he also gave me his personal number should I have any problems or concerns. Fourteen days later I returned for an exam and to have the stitches taken out - almost completely healed and the areas were barely noticeable. Dr Glaser and all of his staff were very personable, caring, and professional!! I dreaded having to have the procedure but they put me at ease and made it much easier and less painful than what I was expecting!!! Thank you all!!

Dr. Graser and his staff have been preparing my gums to enable me to have an implant where a tooth was extracted. This was a long process because it was necessary to do a bone graft before a post could be placed for the crown. Dr. Graser was professional every step of the way. Every procedure was painless and he was thorough in follow up. His staff were always professional and welcoming. I’ve never had a better dental experience. I highly recommend Dr. Graser.
