About Winning Smiles Pediatric Dentistry
Winning Smiles Pediatric Dentistry is a dental practice on Transit Road in East Amherst, New York. Pediatric dental care is built around treating children specifically — dentists with additional training in child development and behaviour management, and offices designed to make a first visit unintimidating. Guidance generally points to a child's first dental visit around age one or within six months of the first tooth.
Children benefit from starting dental visits early, generally by their first birthday or within six months of the first tooth coming through, mainly so they become familiar with the setting before any treatment is actually needed. Establishing that routine early tends to make ongoing checkups far less stressful for both child and parent.
Payment and insurance arrangements vary by practice and by treatment, so it is worth asking directly what is covered and what options exist for anything that is not, rather than assuming either way. Getting that clarified before treatment starts avoids surprises once it is underway.
Beyond any single treatment, most dental visits start with an examination — checking for decay, reviewing the gums, and looking at existing fillings or crowns — often alongside X-rays where there is a reason to look between or beneath teeth. That groundwork is what a dentist uses to explain any findings and set out next steps before you leave.
Routine attendance, roughly every six months for most people, is what actually keeps small problems small. A lot of decay and gum disease develops without any pain in its early stages, which is why regular checkups matter even when nothing seems to be wrong, rather than only booking an appointment once something hurts.
A first appointment at a new practice typically covers a full examination, a review of your dental and medical history, and a professional cleaning, with X-rays if you do not have recent ones. It is also a reasonable time to raise any longer-term concerns, cosmetic or otherwise, so they can be factored into a plan going forward. We were warmly welcomed here. My son felt comfortable during his first visit and had a wonderful experience during his dental cleaning.
It was our first visit and everyone was wonderful. They are so great with the kids. Were very happy we chose this practice
Dentist was verry rude they tried billing me $300 for treatment that they gave that was not needed due to not obtaining medical records they are rude and would not recommend them
Dr. Foley and the team always give compassionate and thorough care to my children! I always feel reassured as a parent that my kids are getting high quality care. We get in quick for appointments and always get a good laugh while we are there as well! Best pediatric dentist in the area!
We are extremely satisfied with the care from Dr Foley and his staff. Everyone is super friendly and they are very prompt. Would highly recommend this office and doctor.
Experienced staff! Dr. Mike is very knowledgeable about how teeth and breathing relate to the body as a whole. He is very informational and gives recommendations based on how he would treat his own children. I didn’t feel coerced into the status quo care, I felt heard about concerns which were then discussed and addressed. I will bring my other children to see him as well.-Brandice
My baby was diagnosed with a severe lip & tongue tie, so I was referred to Dr. Mike by my feeding nurse. They were able to get us in quickly because he was losing weight due to the feeding issues. The procedure was explained in the simplest way for us to understand, making us more comfortable with completing the procedure. After a conversation with the hygienist & doctor baby was taken to the back for the procedure, we were shown the necessary stretches for his after care, gave baby kisses, and we waited. The process literally took 1-2 minutes & we had baby back in our arms. I fed him afterward & noticed an immediate difference in his latch OMG!! I am so grateful for Winning Smiles! Thank you soooo much Dr. Mike, baby is doing above average with feedings now 🥹🧡
Dr.Mike and staff is truly amazing, the past few times we’ve been in we’ve had great experiences! My daughter had her teeth pulled just this past week and Dr.Mike along with the staff were truly amazing during it in comforting not just her but me as well. My daughter has more work scheduled to be done next month and I know she’ll be just fine in their caring hands.
Dr. Foley is absolutely incredible. He is extremely knowledgeable and kind, and was so receptive to all of my questions and concerns. From birth, my daughter was experiencing significant difficulty latching when attempting to breastfeed, causing me significant pain and round the clock feeding. Luckily, we were referred by a family friend to Dr Foley when my daughter was 5 weeks old. After a long 5 weeks struggling to feed her (along with recovering from an unplanned C-section), we finally had answers as to what was causing her trouble- a tongue and lip tie. Dr. Foley explained the procedure and rationale for craniosacral therapy prior to the surgery. After completing therapy with ongoing oral stretches, our daughter had the frenectomy and we instantly experienced significant improvement, so much so that we are now able to exclusively breastfeed and she is gaining weight beautifully! I went from triple feeding and feeling so exhausted and overwhelmed to EBF and feeling like a confident, capable mother. I’m so grateful to Dr. Foley and how much he changed my life. Thank you!!!
