About Winter Park Periodontics & Implant Dentistry

Winter Park Periodontics & Implant Dentistry is a dental practice on West Morse Boulevard in Winter Park, Florida. A dental implant replaces a missing tooth at the root, not just the crown — a small titanium post is placed in the jaw bone and, once it has integrated over a period of months, a replacement tooth is attached to it. It is generally the most durable option for a single missing tooth or several.

Gum disease treatment ranges from a deeper professional cleaning for early inflammation through to more involved periodontal care once bone around the teeth has started to be affected. Bleeding gums are usually the earliest sign, and the early stage is reversible with proper cleaning and better daily plaque control.

Periodontics is the specialty focused on the gums and the bone supporting the teeth, handling more advanced gum disease, related surgical treatment, and — in many practices — dental implant placement, which sits naturally alongside that training.

Bone grafting rebuilds jaw bone that has shrunk after a tooth has been missing for a while, most often as preparation for a dental implant that needs sufficient volume to anchor into. Healing generally takes several months before further treatment can proceed.

Periodontal surgery treats gum disease that has not resolved with non-surgical cleaning — addressing deep pockets, bone loss, or recession around the teeth. It is carried out under local anaesthetic, with recovery typically settling within one to two weeks.

Gum grafting covers exposed tooth roots caused by gum recession, using tissue from elsewhere in the mouth or a donor material to protect the root and reduce sensitivity. Initial healing takes a couple of weeks, with full results visible over the following months.

Periodontal care focuses on the health of the gums and the bone that supports the teeth, from preventive gum health checks through to deeper treatment once disease has taken hold. Left untreated, gum disease is a leading cause of adult tooth loss, which is why it is monitored at every checkup. This page has the practice's contact details and full service list. I give the highest recommendation to Dr. Scott Cohen and his practice. He has a wonderful, professional presence. He is very kind and has a wonderful bedside manner. He graciously calls the patient the next day after a procedure to ensure they are doing fine. That was a personal touch that I had not expected, but found very refreshing and gratifying. Although I absolutely HATE having any dental work done, I must admit that he made an otherwise miserable experience into a highly pleasant and professional encounter.

When I tried to make an appointment on the phone, the person who took my call was very rude. After finding out that it was $385 for an initial visit and it would take a month and a half to get an appointment, I decided to find a different doctor.

I was referred to Dr. Scott Cohen by my primary dentist. I needed 3 implants and a couple of extractions. I put it off for a year due to my fear of dentists, but if I only knew how painless and professional Dr. Cohen would be, I would not have waited. He talks to you throughout the process to make sure you are comfortable and makes personal follow-up phone calls to ensure the healing process is going as planned. No need to wait when you your apprehensive like me. Dr. Cohen and his wonderful staff will take care of you.

Absolutely Amazing office all around, the reception area is beautiful and has a tranquil feel. The concierge staff were all very courteous, welcoming and made me feel like family. Ashley, Dr. Cohen’s assistant, called me back right at my appointment time, was very enthusiastic and insightful. Dr. Cohen eased my anxiety by explaining the procedure, in terms that I could comprehend and assured me that I was in great hands. He was professional and compassionate at the same time, which helped me tremendously. I walked in completely scared, almost in tears and walked out with full trust in Dr. Cohen & staff. I actually can’t wait to come back for my implant. I had very little to no swelling and hardly any pain post procedure. I highly recommend Dr.‘s Horvat and Cohen for any of your periodontal treatment needs. Thanks again for taking superb care of me.

Dr. Cohen has been my specialist for over a year now, and I can't praise him or his staff enough. The professionalism is only exceeded by the care and concern I've been shown through all my procedures. Everyone I've met from the office staff, to the hygienists, to Dr. Cohen has been exceptional on every visit and follow-up. The billing is out of network, and not cheap, but in this case you get what you pay for, and what you get here is one of the most experienced pioneers in the industry and a top Dr. in the state of Florida. Well worth it, and highly recommended.
