It covers people who qualify for Medi-Cal, including low-income families, children, pregnant women, seniors, people with disabilities and other eligible adults. Most of the benefit is delivered fee-for-service, with the state paying enrolled dentists directly, and Delta Dental of California acts as the administrator handling dentist enrolment, claims, payment and member services; a small number of counties use dental managed care plans instead. It is also promoted to members under the name Smile California.
